This is all I needed .... two weeks ago :P . I've been messing around with my 5700s and im pretty happy now, I reached 56-57 mhs@125w +-5 on each card stable.
Btw, great content as always, keep it up, your videos are really enjoyable (I cant say the same about the rest of the crypto channels)
I can't wait for watch that video where you will test the power consumption of different connection types for pci-e risers. This will help me decide the type of riser I will use on my future rig (actually planning on getting RX 580 8 gb).
Been looking forward to seeing hash rates and wattage of this rig 👍🏼
RX 5700 is my current favorite. Made hundreds already off my rig.
Im getting 31 M/H per card off GTX 1660 Super 52C @ 70w. My 8 card rig is using 620W at the wall and generating 248 M/H. PLUS the 1660 Supers are cheaper. I think the 1660 super is the more efficient option.
I preferred to add GTX 1660 than 5700 Xt. But I think 5600 xt still better efficiency than GTX 1660
@@antoniuss6967 I have yet to try a 1660. I tested 1660 TI and Super side by side. The Ti got about 1M/H less than the peak of the super for me, and the TI's are more expensive. I believe its the Supers mem bandwidth.
Nicholas Farrar I can reach 31.5 Mh/s 70 w MSI Ventus OC GTX 1660 TI and 31.1 Mh/s 70 w Zotac AMP. I always buy used card. They are the same price in my country. I think not only memory bandwidth but also CU.
Hey Panda i have the exact same cards just using samsung memory i can get about 55/56Mh per card each card pulling about 105W did a setup video showing off my 5700XTG great video as always
I'll check your video...
hardware pron, man thank you for doing these kind of vids. gives people a realtime hash reading. keep up the good work red panda!
Sata cables are only fine for the 5700 or higher end models if you use the 2x 8/6 pin with it cause if you do just a single 1x 8 pin and the gpu needs more power it will take from the sata riser which the gpu thinks it has 75 watts pcie available, and that will be bad.
8:20
are that two cables per pin? New? the old sata had one cable per pin. with sata I only had problems when the gpu was not properly undervolted. I had to change 3-4 cards per year with 20 cards.
I have some of those ASUS dual Evo cards.. they thermal throttle after a while because of the mem temps. If that happens to you, replace those orange fans with deltas. More airflow solves the problem
Haha i did exactly that later on! delta fans swap on the middle 2 fans.
I have a 5 card setup 1 is 5700 the rest is the xt, all of them from red devil but all of them hash about 50 MH/s per card. + my temps are good but not the memory temp, it can even reach a 100 c!! sometimes.
My setup at stock BIOS/Timing : 51.46Mh/s, Core:1,265 MHz, VDDC:740 mV, Mem:890 MHz, VDDCI:810 mV, 101w, Core:44 °C, Mem:78 °C, RIG:31.1 °C, Ambient:29 °C, AirMoisture:65%, Fan:83%
I also have an Asus dual with same problems. Looking forward your solution...
Hey Panda, Interested to see the power consumption when you hook up say a AMD rx550 without external power. I have a small rig with those little guys and the sata gets warm to the touch.
I got an MSI card with mem temps at 104c, then i opend it and the thermal pads were half the size of the mem chips. After changing for bigger ones i get 80-85c mem temp, i think ASUS also have the same fix
which pads did you use?
Jut confirming...my ASUS EVO made in China are hotter than the ones made in Taiwan...Did not notice that. Good catch panda.
Probably lower quality memory modules in the chinese plant.
Asus RX 5700 XT in my rig have the highest memory temp as well, 104 C. Red dragon 74 C and Pulse 94 C. But the Pulse can reach much higher memory overclock compared to the other. It can reach 1865 with std bios and uptime non stop and lowest wattage. GPU temp the highest is Red dragon 60 C, Pulse 56 C, and Asus is the lowest 52 C. Fan setting 50 C to 50 % and 80 C to 80% fan speed. I only wait Asus to be dead and throw it to Asus 3 years claim warranty.
Hashrate performance of the Asus running in 104 C all time already 5 months still remain the same. Not even 0.01 decrease Mh/s. No coil whine. Others already coil whine. Asus fan is different. The sound of the fan is amazing giving you a lot of information of the running PhoenixMiner without seeing monitor.
The ASUS ones I've seen to have really trash heatsinks and cooling methods on the TUF series and Duals, memory gets super hot if I don't aim a fan directly where it sits and the hashrate decreases significantly as it thermal throttles
Check out some reviewers on TH-cam that do proper teardowns of these, Asus have really done a poor job
Their Strix VRM and RAM also designed badly. They totally aim for aesthetic and GPU brute cooling instead of RAM. I had to mod the cooling to share the main GPU core heatpipe to the RAM. They dropped 6-7°C. That help.
I dropped this under a prior video a few days ago... just thought I'd repost for reference from recent experience w/ 5700s........
"Hey RedPanda, enjoy your videos and content..... saw your building a new 5700 rig so thought I would chip in on experience w/ risers recently.....
Really admire the power meter Spacegoats built for you, maybe you can do a video with your new 5700s on that meter, would luv to find something like that but I think there is something unexplained going on with the Riser power draw as it is definitely drawing more than 7 watts based on my recent anecdotal experience.....
Have been mining nonstop since 2012 and learned some valuable lessons about using cheap PSUs early on when trying to run my 290s back in the day but since I swapped out my 290s for 480/580s and quality PSUs I have always used sata adapters for my risers but never more than 2 risers on any sata cable coming from PSU.
I have never had any issue powering 2 risers per sata cable since switching to all 580 6 card rigs a few years ago and then in 2017 I added a few 6 card vega rigs to the family and was a little weary trying 2 risers per sata cable but I watched them closely after initial setup and they also have had no issue running 2 cards on each sata cable.......
Until Now - last month I started swapping out all my 4gb cards for 5700s and now I started seeing issues with running 2 cards on a sata cable for the first time... the first sata cable that melted I thought was just a fluke or faulty cable, the second time I figured it was an issue with an older PSU (2013).... well I just finished doing 3 RMA's for PSUs this week - first time ever for a PSU RMA in 8 years of mining, fortunately they had 10 and 7 yr warranties... 1 Thermaltake 1500 1 EVGA 1300 and a EVGA 1000...... all after I swapped out 580s for 5700s after running 580s on them for years w/ no issues.
The first issue only melted the sata cables at the connection point with riser.... then unknowingly the sata cable melted the 6 pin connection going into the PSU on 2 of the PSUs that I couldn't detect but should have known something was going on when these rigs were periodically shutting down and with only 5 cards on them at the time......
so there is something unique going on with the power draw of risers, I also just noticed a video by SerpentXSF regarding risers as well but I am just a dumb Ironworker and most of this is above my paygrade but wanted to add my results from more than a dozen rigs (all 5700s and Vega's now) and a few years of experiencing difficulties"
Amazing my friend thanks for your experience here.
Please make an update about the mining basement temperature after installing the 18 inch exhaust fan..
Great video . Love the 5700xt rig
Bios mod timings give about +3mhs more
how?
My 18x msi mech rx5700 have the same mem temps the highest are 102 but it seems normal for what i read on the net. All have als micron mem but mod the timings get me only 55.50 mh/s maybe i did something wrong.
the memorie chips have a max temp of 110 amd says its completly normal whil gaming to see them on 100-110 degrees
I wonder if between the two countries that something changed in the manufacturing process and that’s why the ones running hotter than the other
Molded SATA connectors are the problem not 'clean power'. Can't see the connector clearly but I think some of the adapters you are using are the molded type. Should probably replace those.
Also the Asus Dual Evos have poor contact between the memory modules and the heatsink. Replacing the thermal pads should fix the issue.
some crappy psu's (which a lot of miners do use, and those who have burned them up) have crappy voltage on the 12v rail. The OG's i've talked to say if the rails have terrible rate like 11.5v and under or 12.5v & higher, it can melt/burnt the connectors. According to the big crypto mining og's i've talked to.
@@RedPandaMining Voltage regulation may be a factor but that to me seems like less of an issue than the way the connector is actually made. The molded connectors basically have wires going into molded plastic. The molding process isn't always perfect so the wires can end up touching or being close enough to get an arc. I think the heat of the molding process can also damage the wire insulation making problems more likely. The crimped connector coming off the PSU has dividers that prevent this from happening and the wires are also inserted after the housing is produced. I've seen pictures of melted connectors that were used to power hard drives. It doesn't take much power just a bad connector. Personally I wouldn't take the chance with my rigs. I've used SATA in the past but always the crimped connectors straight from the PSU. Worth noting some crappy PSUs actually have molded connectors coming off the PSU. It may be that people blame poor voltage regulation when the problem was actually the connector all along.
@@RedPandaMining Also worth mentioning the ATX spec actually allows for + or - 5% on the 12V rail or 11.4V to 12.6V with up to 120mV ripple. Not ruling out the possibility of it being a factor but if +- .5V is all it took to get a connector to melt I feel like regular PCs would be bursting into flames pretty regularly. I'm more inclined to blame some fault with the connector itself. Of course most regular PCs probably use molded SATA connectors so 🤷♂️
Interesting that the ones giving temp issues are from Chiina. RMA or you gonna void warranty and washer them?(look up washer mod)
I know this is an old video but the gpu from china that is hot is also in the middle.
The wait is over for part 2🔥🔥😂... Awesome man
Very cool man! I like the Thic 5700. Solid rig and looks to be running smooth. I think im going change os soon. I sent you an updated email that should help clear the air on safely using Sata, page 62 I think 👍
Can't wait to see what the hashrate to watts are after the bios mod!!!
my crappy blower 5700s have crappy ram so they are only really stable at 56 megahash long term (they will do 57 in a cold basement) but they have really good ram cooling my ram is at 74 on all four cards and we have warm summer days in manchester uk. by the way blower 5700s are identical - all made by amd and just rebadged.
Hey mate I've a question, there is any diference in hashrate between the card pluged direct to PCI 4.0 x16 VS riser card ?
There is no difference between being in the 16 x or a riser. Hashrate will not be affected.
@@xana1011 Thanks man, have you done the tests on navi cards PCI 4.0 ?
@@InfoBitdidi yes I have I can say if you are doing bandwidth intense things not releated to mining you want that pcie4.0 like editing 4k-8k video or large throughput type workloads like making neural networks.
My ASROCK 5700 XT gets mem temps at 107ºC. I'm thiking that's not ok for a long term usage
i would say for sure that's not good
which asrock u got?
im looking at grabing some challengers to build a cheap rig
am prolly going to have to washer mod them just wondering if i should re-pad too
It's a challenger model. I was about to get another one, but after this, I won't
@@golfdeltalima19 theres also a plate thats supposed to cool the memory
im wondering if that could be removed and put lil copper heatsinks
kinda like MSi with their VRM heatsinks
Use copper I guess it's kinda risk, should use a non-conductive material.
Move that china card to the outside position for better air flow
How much mh/s giving those 6 cards?
I got a 5700 XT, i have had issued with it crashing my computer, been having "Viedo TDR Failure", never had an issue with using my GTX Cards, seems to also happen when i have MSI afterburner running as well
that usually happens from too low of voltage
but yea still just a general fault error meaning it could be anything
id try raising voltage first then try lowering vram OC
i run mine 1300 core at 750mv, vram OC varies wildly card to card
why you don't use server psu + breakout board + 6pin to 6+2pin cables?
Looks like a nice rig, didn't realize the non ROG lineup for gpus aren't the best
should i get a couple rx 580's or wait for big navi
I'm still trying to decide 5700xt vs rx 5600xt
All depends on the cards the 5700Xt is an amazing card if u down volt and control the temp you can get depening on the memory about 61MH panda has a video on
@@BillMining thanks
Great video! Have you already tested the 5700 red devil only with the timings vs the XT BIOS? I'm finishing a 6x red devil and would love to know your thoughts. Maybe go a little into it in the next video
I can’t find much information online so thought I would ask on here - how many of the same type of gpu (rtx 2060 super) does nvidia drivers support? Windows used to only support 8 but I hear now it is 50. Limitation are the drivers now so what is that maximum number of gpus per system? Thanks in advance
Hi Obi Ken this info I am not sure about...
Red Panda Mining thanks for reply, do you know what the maximum is?

I have 5 of the asus as well i did not put XT bios just straps, and i get 55.8mh at 100watts, and my memory temp is always 90-98 , i havent been able to find what is temperature range that would be bad for ddr6 my xfx 5700 xts memory run 10c less on memory temp, ive been told the tmem junction is what to watch

What 120mm fans are those?

@@RedPandaMining Thanks ! Am i able to do exactly the same with the XFX cards or is it a different prosses ? (i'm going to build a 6x XFX RX 5700 so i'm trying to be as prepared a possible)
i wish i would have decided on a manufacturer earlier for 5700s
now theres not much options to build full rigs
i was too focused on getting deals and trying XTs
and now all u can really get is gigabyte windforce and asrock challenger for 5700s
5600s are an alt to 5700s but they arent as efficient until they become unlocked, if thats even possible which it prolly isnt
some only get 39-40Mh at max mem frequencies, which is locked at 930/1860 for 5600s
even tho they have much more room on 5600s, prolly even some of the highest clocked gddr6 that exists
Are these risers a PCIe 3.0 like all others for previous mining rigs or they are 4.0?
Hey isn't XT supposed to give more hashrate than the regular 5700 ?
Hi Red Panda mining.
First of all, congratulations on all your videos and everything you do. I want to ask you the following. I do tests with 2 cards. msi 5700 xt mech and SAPPHIRE 5700 xt pulse. In the software I consume 95 on both cards but on the wall MSI consumes 125 watts and pulse 145. They have the same bios and settings. Consumption is purely the card is not with the motherboard together. 125 and 145 are the measurement at 6 pins 6 + 2 pins and risers. Do you know what this difference might be?
I also have this on my cards as well. Some AIB gpu brands have like different manufacturing process and power delivery needed is my best guess.
Interested to know if the thick edition is good, i heard they are not the better ones of the lot
I am really keen toget a 5700 card but i can only get the: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT ; MSI RX 5700 MECH GP OC ; Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT ; ASRock Radeon RX 5700 DirectX 12 RX 5700 CHALLENGER D 8G -> please let me know which card you would get
hi, any idea why my 5700 Asus dual-rx5700-o8g-evo is getting hing mem tempo 102º ! ?
Nice! Red panda! Could you show me how to edit and flash bios in 5700 xt, do you have made a video for this?
th-cam.com/video/lnqkOgUKSPo/w-d-xo.html
How are you guys getting such low power. The furthest I can go is -10% on power limit before I start getting random crashes
I tried multiple tests with or without Afterburner, the standard 800mv/1340core/1800mem was crap for me. The only stable settings I found is -30% power and memory to 1820 with afterburner with 20.1.5 drivers. I get 52.8 and no crashes at all, even after a full week. It took me 1 month of changing drivers, voltages, upgrading mb bios and chipset drivers. I was about to sell those cards.
Claude Lussier what did you run for voltages?
Love it brotha. Very. Nice
How do you get the memory temp to show in HiveOS? I only show junction temp.
R u using beta version of hiveos

Is the 6 pin to dual 8 pin pcie power splitter safe to use?
Great video Panda, thanks a lot I have some of the ASUS and I got the same issue with 1 of the gpu maybe it came from China as well. Same thing with the power it is showing 80-84 in software, I think it is not real power usage the wall should have a different wattage.

I think your cards need a little more separation man. I’d be curious how the temps are if you took one card out and separated the 5 existing cards a bit
ASUS does not provide memory thermal pads thats why they are bad for computing in our University we never get ASUS cards for O.C.
You should look at these cards then. They have beefy heat sink and plenty pf thermal contact with all pcb components.

every one of his cards is reading under 125 watts in software, so i dont see ur point
and yes the sensors are not accurate
this has been discussed in the many tear down videos of navi that are all over youtube
as well as the voltage sensors on amd have never been accurate
even the cpus and motherboards are the same thing
but if u swap the bios between cards that also changes
so what the sensors are reading is bios based

H Mandeel would like to agree but not really. I get about 72-120 hour runs before i usually reboot any of my unstable 5700s. Stable rigs have 300hours+. Any sort of undervolting if too low will crash any gpu as memory errors gather in cache. Its just the nature of things. There is the silicon lottery factor and with that I can agree to. Some of my Asus like 820, some 830 and some 850. My Msi mechs pretty much all like 820.
