Absolutely!! I could see that being an actual plot in the show! It's weird how whenever the comic was just showing Grim or Billy they actually felt completely in character. But then the author was like "no, it is time for Sex Mandy" and shot all his own good ideas in the foot

Supposedly it was Bleed’s choice as he lives on the other side of the planet least I think that was the reason meaning that to work he would’ve had to move to the states or the time difference would’ve made it too hard to work, least that’s the conclusion I can come to. I think this comic hit the spot for a lot of kids like me, who still liked cartoons but also were at the age where they wanted something darker and edgy that made us feel like we were being taken more seriously as growing people who were becoming more aware of darker, more serious things in the world. It’s certainly not the kind of comic I’d be into now that I’m an adult, but at the time, I remember checking on it daily for an update

The kind of boom that we're still seeing the benefits of to this day; despite flash being unceremoniously killed off. The entire social media scene is an evolution of usenets, to forums, to RSS feeds and mailing lists, to geocities and angelfire with their early multimedia web hosting, then myspace. A massive explosion of creativity thanks to countless cheap/free hosting services, a thirst for new experiences from web users, the ability to find or create niche communities based on interest, and people being able to post whatever they wanted (short of being obviously illegal). Outside cultures took countries by storm. Anime exploded in the west thanks to fan subs and file sharing on a scale that was previously impossible with the clunky import and copyright rules. Yeah. The modern era of streaming would not had happened if not for file sharing. Music, Movies, TV shows, you'd have to find and buy one by one just to watch. Regulators are STILL 20 years behind understanding how any of this works, much less develop rules that aren't counter productive or outright draconian. If they had even half the brain to see beyond their own self interest, the "accident of Netflix" could had the normal for everything. Consider Game Pass, and how long it took to get that idea off the ground. And its STILL a mess in comparison to what that model is capable of. I'll be sad when the original internet generation starts to fade off. They've seen both what it was like before, and all the benefits the internet bestowed on humanity. Only to see it carved up and gutted in service of greed and arrogance. But for a short decade, there was a time when stupidly large amounts of money were invested into a bunch of systems that did a job good. No they weren't profitable.... but honestly, we could still get so much more out of it, if we just did it smarter.

I remember the artist of this webcomic post on his DeviantArt account on why he made this comic. It was simply to practice and improve his art style. He said one of his art teachers said the best way to practice is by making comics because the characters are always in motion. So thats exactly what he did. ❤

Personally when I was little I was only into the art I even tried mimicking the style in my own work but later stopped. It's one of those things where you separate art from artist because the art is cool but the artist is just something else 😥
Eh, his latest art seem more lazy and effortless if you ask me, I see nothing wrong if you wanna mimick the early artstyle cause it's bound to evolve into something more convenient to you in the future, it won't stay the same (cause I did that as well but I take more inspo from Adventure Time now).
The webcomic by the same artist about the daughter of "Him" and Blossom was also pretty batshit crazy, but it lacked incest. Which was kind of nice. Honestly, that webcomic was easier to follow in comparison to Grimm Tales from down below.

Bleedman's comics were my lifeblood as a budding artist, and I always wanted to create comics with both a badass and adorable style like his. While my interest dramatically dropped after his near-constant fanservice of prepubescent girls and other general gripes that I had (and still do) with his art style, looking back those his nearly 20-year-old pages makes me nostalgic! It makes me wish I could also make a webcomic without worrying so much about whether or not its story is deep or teaches a good lesson and just focus on making it entertaining like he has. I wouldn't recommend his comics to any artist (young or old) who wants to get better at making art, but hey, it makes for good conversation among fans of edgy 2000's webcomics! One of my online friends recommended this comic when we were still in school. I vaguely remember despite Minnie's feelings toward Jr. being framed as a problem (as it should) in the original story, the comic later went on to promote the pairing pretty heavily. My favourite part of the romance subplot wound up being when another girl showed up because at least she wasn't his sister. This really was where the bar was at

I religiously read this comic while I was in middle and high school. All the characters from this were still on TV and it was probably the first real fanfiction that hooked me
The comic gets a LOT more uncomfortable past the epilogue, especially since the story seems like it's trying to pull a weird time perception thing, where in the real world it's been over 1000 years and the characters have all existed for this amount of time, oh and here these two young girls in a sexual relationship together, and there seems to be implications that HIM may have abused his daughter in multiple contexts. It is absolutely revolting, but hard to stop reading because of the absolute train wreck that it is.
@@ItsDaJax It does take place after PPGD (I think you meant the D cause the Z is the anime series with no relation), it takes place in an AU of PPGD where it had a "bad ending" so technically not 100% related with each other, it's more of a "what if" story/sequel.

@@ItsDaJax The writer responsible for early chapters story got into a beef with the author from what I heard, something about Bleedman wanting some stupid changes in the story (with more useless characters and less focus on the plot) and disagreeing etc. So he left and you can see the drop in the quality story wise, especially Minnie's retconning to be a Mandy 2.0 which was dumb. It also loses it's macabre tone lately thanks to the stupid anime jokes and too much dialogue. I check from time to time to see how both comics progress and no shit happened for at least 3 years now plus way too slow updates.

Fun fact: back in the day, people on the Comics & Cartoons board on 4chan would post like, a thread almost everyday storytiming this webcomic just to shitpost and cringe at the author, and it got so bad and repetitive and people would start bringing up his more seedy suspicious content that nowadays the second you make a post about any of Bleedman's works, it will get instantly deleted for infringing the rules about posting blatant loli content on the site... Theres no written rules about discussions of Bleedman specifically being banned from the board, but the mods and jannitors all seem to agree for once on how no one wants to deal with his fans or his haters any time soon. He's THAT infamous...
If anyone deserves to be shitposted and cringed at, it's this author. Him being a disgusting person with creepy friends aside, his work is just absolute gutter trash. I understand being extremely young and liking a cutesy artstyle like this, but the older you get, the more you see how neither the art nor the story hold up in any way. The story is absolutely embarrassing. Some of the worst fanfiction ever written by a human being. Even if someone managed to ignore the gross problematic sexual/pedophiliac aspects about it, the story is a jumbled, incoherent, random, absurd mess. This comic could have worked as laughable parody or comedy, but it obviously tries to take itself seriously. The art style is kind of horrendous. Art fundamentals, principles and technique are barely there, the perspective and shading are an absolute MESS, and the paneling is a nightmare. Even in making comics, there are guidelines and practices with visual hierarchy and how panels should flow, it should never be just jump from one boxed in illustration with paragraphs of text to another disorganized boxed illustration with even more waffling paragraphs. The panels are atrocious. The text placement and the amount of words on the pages are way too much. In this video with the examples shown, I couldn't tell whether to go left to right, or up to down. Everything about bleedman's works absolutely fails on every level, and I'm so embarrassed I ever spent any time on his work back in 2006. And as bad as his work looks back then, a recent video about him from about 1-2 years ago popped up. It's been over 15 years and HIS STYLE HASN'T IMPROVED. At all.
the only thing i had issue with in this review is how "surprised" you were at so many copywrited characters when that was the whole point, this comic was a spinoff from his PPG one (equally kinda f'ed up) which also has cameos from a bunch of different cartoons. other than that, great video, was fun to listen too! I used to be a fan of Bleedman back when he only uploaded to DeviantART and even tried to keep up with Snafu comics, but he turned out to be kinda ick and i stopped following him.

Loved it for a while when I was a kid (mid-highschool) keeping up with it! I loved the art style and even made OCs inspired of this and other bleedman works! Then...The siblings started getting way too close for comfort for me and I stopped reading all of Bleedman's work. haha.
Jesus Christ, what a throwback. I was in mid school back then and for me it was like the coolest stuff ever (along with PPGZ). Over time I started discovering other things and improved my drawing skills so of course I lost interest. I'm still glad it sorta made an impact on me though.
Yeah, the Angel Guy in the blue and gold getup is called The Redeemer (or The Anti-Spawn), he’s sometimes a bad guy and sometimes a good guy to Spawn in the comics (and also one of the most unfair boss fights in the Super Nintendo game or any Super Nintendo game)

I was very into it in high school (I was a freshman/9th grade ER in 2003-2004) as well as the PPG one. I remember there being some other weird webcomics in that "cartoon network/nickelodeon cartoon crossover" fandom space on deviantart in the mid-late 00s

I remember religiously following PPGD as it was coming out and that spilling over to Grim Tales and Sugar Bits. A few years back I decided to re-read the part of Grim Tales that you covered here and I was really surprised to find something that had such a chokehold on me in middle school just doesn't really hold up. The art was fantastic but the writing was a chore to get through and I didn't bother continuing it. Plus as an adult the depictions of children really turned my stomach. Such a weird snapshot of early Internet culture.
It looks pretty good for a 20 year old webcomic. Obviously there's gonna be a lot of story that doesn't age well and the story telling isn't going to be influenced at all by the kind of creative writing communities that came around later.
The visual style is still great but the storytelling has always been a mess (twenty years really isn't all that much time in the grand scheme of storytelling). Even back then people were raising their eyebrows at the contents and complaining that it was slow-paced, hard to follow, and boring.
@@MmeCShadow what I mean is that now there's a million and a half fanfic authors and thousands of webcomic artists so beginners can see what works and was doesn't. 20 years ago, hell even 10 years ago that wasn't really an option. Grim Tales crawled so Hiveworks could walk.
@@steel8231nah it doesn't really matter how many web artists are out there now vs. then, these problems will always persist in any story depending on what the artist wants to do/tell. Not every comic artist sees every comic and not everyone bounces off of everyone else. I'm writing my own comic for fun and I don't really like most comics, my ideas are just from previous writings I did and things I like. Its age doesn't exactly define how good the writing is based on what we have now. It's more of a glimpse into what someone liked back then and their use of those properties to tell a story they wanted to tell.
I admittedly used to read this guy’s comics as kid, especially Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi because PPG was my ultimate obsession. I never heard of this webcomic before, and this creator's other series, until today. I think I was more busy playing flash games back in the day. Despite its edgy and unethical ideas, I thought it had some pretty neat ones. Like Grim extending the hourglass to continue spending time with Billy & Mandy, and Jeff wishing that his father, Billy, would love him. Only for Jeff to be a 2nd father figure to an offspring of Him. It might've touched my heart a little.
I remember reading this comic in school liking it a lot, losing the name of said comic and having a hard time finding it again, months pass and I finally found the name of the creator and his dA account just to see Minnie in a pinup pose with tentacles around her in a suggestive position, and closing the tab and never looking back lol
I remember being obsessed with all of bleedman comics. Some of my fondest memories in middle school was commenting and reading the comments on the website’s forum as people speculated which characters would appear next and who was Mimi’s mom. I even convinced my middle school book club members to read it 😅 If you are going to do another bleedman video I think PPGD would be nice since I think it’s plot is even crazier than Grimm Tales.

Changes I woud make if I owned this comic instead: -Mandy and Grim reuniting after years of not seeing eachother. They become friends again and introduce their kids to eachother -Mandy marries a Demon or a god ( anyone but Grim) so that Mini and Junior could be childhood friends instead of (half) siblings -Instead of the copyrighted cartoon characters, maybe bleedman could've used them as inspiration for original characters -Grimm adopting a dead baby and raised him as his own son because he misses Billy and Mandy to ditch the whole abortion plot

He was a kid that spawn saved, along with his brother, from their abusive father but got a bad turn in life and ended up blaming Spawn for ruining it after he got his memories manipulated by Lucifer(I think. Its odd I really have no memory of how I came across this webcomic (comics in general really weren't my style growing up) but I remember binge reading everything on the site over a few late nights and really enjoying it. A few years ago I tried to read them again and it was pretty painful. Its hard to remember back then just how much cool imagery alone drew me into certain media.

I am someone who grew up off the Phantom of the Opera movie. I would play it over and over. But don't ask me how-years later-I had completely forgotten about the chandelier falling scene. It was literally in the climax, it was the best part of the film, it was beautifully chaotic, and it was awesome. Yet I completely forgot about it until I read the book that has it in Act 1. Also fun fact they dropped an actual chandelier.

Though, I do have issue with him making reference to Danielle when she didn't show up until after TUE, so that's a lore mistake.

All honesty I think it’s a form of transformation for the soul for grim jr. From how he became a selfish little boy who was just straight up jealous of his sitser to a more open minded and selfless who cares about his sister, not as much as minnie wants but maybe just enough to what she needs. And seeing the situation their in now and what junior and minnie are going through in their own way, i saw their working up to an interesting transform of the body and power, and how he will deal with things in the future. It will not be easy, but nothing is in life or death.
The demon fighting Spawn at the beginning is the Violator, the angel guy is the Redeemer, and the Ice cream man is Billy Kincaid, and they are all from Spawn.

I actually never read Grim Tales From Down Below,I did spend a goooood while with PPG D which I liked more and would appreciate the coverage cause it was insane too But also do cover the rest of Grim Tales cause I think it'll be funny to hear some of the weirdest things (like Mimi's origin that I somehow did come across lol)

Just like you, this comic is a part of my youth as well. All the copyrighted characters were the appeal. It was supposed to be this great multiverse cartoon universe. With time, I've realized many things about it. I mean for starters it was my first exposure to lolita. The through line with Mandy, the Powerpuff Girls, and Mandy's daughter as well as several other characters are Bleedman's ideal body type. He likes his women young (although to be fair, he does draw sexy adult women). His style meshed well with the long forgotten Cartoon Network MMO fusionfall which was a thing at the time. And just like you said, the drawings are pretty good. The flaw (aside from lolita) is that the writing is terrible. It is a deeply ambitious project to write and draw as many well known characters as possible, but there's no real outline to make all these properties truly cohesive and unlike actual Cartoon Network it takes itself and its lore seriously so the holes in logic (like Mandark owning Jack bots) just creates one of many plot holes. And that writing, it's terrible. It's just bad. It was easy to ignore as a child, but as an adult it's not how I would want any of those characters written, and it's just so painfully off model that it really is like fan fiction and not a true homage to the source materials.
Yup! Pretty much exactly how I feel about it too. I wish someone else would make an insanely massive crossover series with wild lore that's actually well written and not an excuse for weird loli shit.

Holy crap, I almost forgot about this crackship series! I also found it through AMV videos, thinking the art was wicked. I never fully understood or read the story, so even I didn’t expect certain parts. I honestly didn’t expect the series to keep going on. Thought it ended in the early or mid 2010s. Funny thing is, the series got me into a series that takes the son of the reaper in a better direction. Death Jr. Death Jr is like if Tim Burton and Invader Zim had a kid. Has a few games and comics. Unlike Grim Jr., Death Jr. actually tries to improve himself as a reaper. The soundtrack for the games is also really good. And demons aren’t ghosts, just as yokai aren’t demons.
I was always creeped out by the way the children characters were drawn, a lot of that artist’s work was very questionable renditions of minor characters.

Tbh, in better hands and a...non creepy writer. The story would of been extremely interesting. One main thing: change Minnie's sin! Make her want respect from junior,Wang validation. Make her envious of junior, which her screaming how she just wants him to love her for her,as she is, not her powers. That,along with quite a bit of plot elements to change(especially that nergal situation), it could of been an extremely bittersweet action story about acceptance and validation

Omg Sugar Bits!! That one was my favorite and no one ever talked about it... I think I missed the height of the popularity of Grimm Tales, but I did follow it for a long time. The art is definitely what held my attention the most besides the wack ass lore and world building.
Kinda weird & wild to think about the fact I use to read Bleedman comics. Apparently as a kid I missed the incest & the fact Mandy was having an affair with Mini's sperm donor, I some how understood enough to know Grim & Mandy had to get donors since Grim can't have kids so I just thought Grim was mad Nergal Jr's powers were stronger on Minnie when Junior didn't have powers from whoever was his donor. This is despite the fact the comic made it clear Mandy slept with Dan/evil future Danny & in a comic that was meant to be non-canon they had twins. I also apparently missed that Minnie wasn't allowed in Heaven was because of her feelings for Junior, I thought the guy let Minnie return to everyone because he felt bad that she wished she could be with her family again after seeing everything that happened. I managed to miss/misunderstand a lot of shit to the point my interpretation of the comic back when my only experience with it was AMV videos would be a better idea which was Minnie & Jr as unrelated people adventuring through hell while Jr tried to help Minnie return home but failed so she's stuck down there as a zombie/ragdoll.(was unaware Halloween Town was involved) At this point it's more surprising to learn that past staff Bleedman had help out rejected the idea of Chii(Aku's kid that weirdly looks like Blossom & wants Mimi like Minnie wants Junior) didn't want her in the comic at all & then mentioned that what they thought would happen did happen

I think this comic hit the spot for a lot of kids like me, who still liked cartoons but also were at the age where they wanted something darker and edgy that made us feel like we were being taken more seriously as growing people who were becoming more aware of darker, more serious things in the world.

A massive explosion of creativity thanks to countless cheap/free hosting services, a thirst for new experiences from web users, the ability to find or create niche communities based on interest, and people being able to post whatever they wanted (short of being obviously illegal). Outside cultures took countries by storm. Anime exploded in the west thanks to fan subs and file sharing on a scale that was previously impossible with the clunky import and copyright rules. Yeah. The modern era of streaming would not had happened if not for file sharing. Music, Movies, TV shows, you'd have to find and buy one by one just to watch.
Regulators are STILL 20 years behind understanding how any of this works, much less develop rules that aren't counter productive or outright draconian. If they had even half the brain to see beyond their own self interest, the "accident of Netflix" could had the normal for everything. Consider Game Pass, and how long it took to get that idea off the ground. And its STILL a mess in comparison to what that model is capable of.
I'll be sad when the original internet generation starts to fade off. They've seen both what it was like before, and all the benefits the internet bestowed on humanity. Only to see it carved up and gutted in service of greed and arrogance. But for a short decade, there was a time when stupidly large amounts of money were invested into a bunch of systems that did a job good. I remember the artist of this webcomic post on his DeviantArt account on why he made this comic. It was simply to practice and improve his art style. He said one of his art teachers said the best way to practice is by making comics because the characters are always in motion. So thats exactly what he did. ❤
The guy who called Mandy his mistress was from their show. He was a parody of Hellraiser cenobites. He became a second Grimm for Mandy at times: a slave who she could use and abuse because she outwitted them.

Bleedman's comics were my lifeblood as a budding artist, and I always wanted to create comics with both a badass and adorable style like his. While my interest dramatically dropped after his near-constant fanservice of prepubescent girls and other general gripes that I had (and still do) with his art style, looking back those his nearly 20-year-old pages makes me nostalgic! It makes me wish I could also make a webcomic without worrying so much about whether or not its story is deep or teaches a good lesson and just focus on making it entertaining like he has.
I wouldn't recommend his comics to any artist (young or old) who wants to get better at making art, but hey, it makes for good conversation among fans of edgy 2000's webcomics! One of my online friends recommended this comic when we were still in school. I vaguely remember despite Minnie's feelings toward Jr. being framed as a problem (as it should) in the original story, the comic later went on to promote the pairing pretty heavily. My favourite part of the romance subplot wound up being when another girl showed up because at least she wasn't his sister. This really was where the bar was at

I religiously read this comic while I was in middle and high school. All the characters from this were still on TV and it was probably the first real fanfiction that hooked me
The comic gets a LOT more uncomfortable past the epilogue, especially since the story seems like it's trying to pull a weird time perception thing, where in the real world it's been over 1000 years and the characters have all existed for this amount of time, oh and here these two young girls in a sexual relationship together, and there seems to be implications that HIM may have abused his daughter in multiple contexts. It is absolutely revolting, but hard to stop reading because of the absolute train wreck that it is.
It felt like it took place after PPGZ.
@@ItsDaJax It does take place after PPGD (I think you meant the D cause the Z is the anime series with no relation), it takes place in an AU of PPGD where it had a "bad ending" so technically not 100% related with each other, it's more of a "what if" story/sequel.

Reading the comments on the comic, it seems a change of staff of sorts and questionable intentions took it the wrong way. Kinda like what happened to RWBY
@@ItsDaJax The writer responsible for early chapters story got into a beef with the author from what I heard, something about Bleedman wanting some stupid changes in the story (with more useless characters and less focus on the plot) and disagreeing etc. So he left and you can see the drop in the quality story wise, especially Minnie's retconning to be a Mandy 2.0 which was dumb. It also loses it's macabre tone lately thanks to the stupid anime jokes and too much dialogue.
I check from time to time to see how both comics progress and no shit happened for at least 3 years now plus way too slow updates.

Fun fact: back in the day, people on the Comics & Cartoons board on 4chan would post like, a thread almost everyday storytiming this webcomic just to shitpost and cringe at the author, and it got so bad and repetitive and people would start bringing up his more seedy suspicious content that nowadays the second you make a post about any of Bleedman's works, it will get instantly deleted for infringing the rules about posting blatant loli content on the site... Theres no written rules about discussions of Bleedman specifically being banned from the board, but the mods and jannitors all seem to agree for once on how no one wants to deal with his fans or his haters any time soon.

If anyone deserves to be shitposted and cringed at, it's this author. Him being a disgusting person with creepy friends aside, his work is just absolute gutter trash. I understand being extremely young and liking a cutesy artstyle like this, but the older you get, the more you see how neither the art nor the story hold up in any way.
The story is absolutely embarrassing. Some of the worst fanfiction ever written by a human being. Even if someone managed to ignore the gross problematic sexual/pedophiliac aspects about it, the story is a jumbled, incoherent, random, absurd mess. This comic could have worked as laughable parody or comedy, but it obviously tries to take itself seriously.
The art style is kind of horrendous. Art fundamentals, principles and technique are barely there, the perspective and shading are an absolute MESS, and the paneling is a nightmare. Even in making comics, there are guidelines and practices with visual hierarchy and how panels should flow, it should never be just jump from one boxed in illustration with paragraphs of text to another disorganized boxed illustration with even more waffling paragraphs. The panels are atrocious. The text placement and the amount of words on the pages are way too much. In this video with the examples shown, I couldn't tell whether to go left to right, or up to down. Everything about bleedman's works absolutely fails on every level, and I'm so embarrassed I ever spent any time on his work back in 2006.
And as bad as his work looks back then, a recent video about him from about 1-2 years ago popped up. It's been over 15 years and HIS STYLE HASN'T IMPROVED. At all.

the only thing i had issue with in this review is how "surprised" you were at so many copywrited characters when that was the whole point, this comic was a spinoff from his PPG one (equally kinda f'ed up) which also has cameos from a bunch of different cartoons. other than that, great video, was fun to listen too! I used to be a fan of Bleedman back when he only uploaded to DeviantART and even tried to keep up with Snafu comics, but he turned out to be kinda ick and i stopped following him.

Loved it for a while when I was a kid (mid-highschool) keeping up with it! I loved the art style and even made OCs inspired of this and other bleedman works! Then...The siblings started getting way too close for comfort for me and I stopped reading all of Bleedman's work. haha.
Jesus Christ, what a throwback. I was in mid school back then and for me it was like the coolest stuff ever (along with PPGZ). Over time I started discovering other things and improved my drawing skills so of course I lost interest. I'm still glad it sorta made an impact on me though.
Yeah, the Angel Guy in the blue and gold getup is called The Redeemer (or The Anti-Spawn), he’s sometimes a bad guy and sometimes a good guy to Spawn in the comics (and also one of the most unfair boss fights in the Super Nintendo game or any Super Nintendo game)
He’s not that hard once you understand his beam hitboxes. James Rolfe just sucks at the game.

I was very into it in high school (I was a freshman/9th grade ER in 2003-2004) as well as the PPG one. I remember there being some other weird webcomics in that "cartoon network/nickelodeon cartoon crossover" fandom space on deviantart in the mid-late 00s

I remember religiously following PPGD as it was coming out and that spilling over to Grim Tales and Sugar Bits. A few years back I decided to re-read the part of Grim Tales that you covered here and I was really surprised to find something that had such a chokehold on me in middle school just doesn't really hold up. The art was fantastic but the writing was a chore to get through and I didn't bother continuing it. Plus as an adult the depictions of children really turned my stomach. Such a weird snapshot of early Internet culture.
It looks pretty good for a 20 year old webcomic. Obviously there's gonna be a lot of story that doesn't age well and the story telling isn't going to be influenced at all by the kind of creative writing communities that came around later.
Some shit holds up surprisingly well despite its age.
The visual style is still great but the storytelling has always been a mess (twenty years really isn't all that much time in the grand scheme of storytelling). Even back then people were raising their eyebrows at the contents and complaining that it was slow-paced, hard to follow, and boring.
@@MmeCShadow what I mean is that now there's a million and a half fanfic authors and thousands of webcomic artists so beginners can see what works and was doesn't. 20 years ago, hell even 10 years ago that wasn't really an option. Grim Tales crawled so Hiveworks could walk.
@@steel8231nah it doesn't really matter how many web artists are out there now vs. then, these problems will always persist in any story depending on what the artist wants to do/tell. Not every comic artist sees every comic and not everyone bounces off of everyone else. I'm writing my own comic for fun and I don't really like most comics, my ideas are just from previous writings I did and things I like.
Its age doesn't exactly define how good the writing is based on what we have now. It's more of a glimpse into what someone liked back then and their use of those properties to tell a story they wanted to tell.

I admittedly used to read this guy’s comics as kid, especially Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi because PPG was my ultimate obsession. I used to follow him on deviant arts (wow this comment is really aging me lmao) but as I got older, I realized how inappropriate his works are and it came to a head when he made a big stink about one of his posts being reported for p*dophilia and it was like “yeah… because you’re a pedo sir 🫠”

I never heard of this webcomic before, and this creator's other series, until today. I think I was more busy playing flash games back in the day. Despite its edgy and unethical ideas, I thought it had some pretty neat ones. Like Grim extending the hourglass to continue spending time with Billy & Mandy, and Jeff wishing that his father, Billy, would love him. Only for Jeff to be a 2nd father figure to an offspring of Him. It might've touched my heart a little.
I remember reading this comic in school liking it a lot, losing the name of said comic and having a hard time finding it again, months pass and I finally found the name of the creator and his dA account just to see Minnie in a pinup pose with tentacles around her in a suggestive position, and closing the tab and never looking back lol
I remember being obsessed with all of bleedman comics. Some of my fondest memories in middle school was commenting and reading the comments on the website’s forum as people speculated which characters would appear next and who was Mimi’s mom. I even convinced my middle school book club members to read it 😅
If you are going to do another bleedman video I think PPGD would be nice since I think it’s plot is even crazier than Grimm Tales.

-Instead of the copyrighted cartoon characters, maybe bleedman could've used them as inspiration for original characters
-Grimm adopting a dead baby and raised him as his own son because he misses Billy and Mandy to ditch the whole abortion plot

And the angel is also a Spawn character known as The Reedemer, previously known as the anti-spawn. He was a kid that spawn saved, along with his brother, from their abusive father but got a bad turn in life and ended up blaming Spawn for ruining it after he got his memories manipulated by Lucifer(I think. Could’ve been Cain)

Whoa.... That hit me with a wave of nostalgia. I remember reading this back then and it was awesome; mainly the art style and the twisted, unhinged take on certain IPs here. I read this back then on Deviantart, around late 04 or so 😭 Good times, good times.... However I kinda stopped catching up to this, I think it left off sometime after Grim jumps into the hole to save 'his' kids. I think the author was taking a while to upload the next chapter so I moved on and went back to playing on my X360 as usual.

Its odd I really have no memory of how I came across this webcomic (comics in general really weren't my style growing up) but I remember binge reading everything on the site over a few late nights and really enjoying it. A few years ago I tried to read them again and it was pretty painful. Its hard to remember back then just how much cool imagery alone drew me into certain media.
I found it last year from Pinterest because of the Powerpuff Girls Z comic pin. Where Bubbles and Mandy are friends, and I think Gaz.

Lemme tell you, I get that. I am someone who grew up off the Phantom of the Opera movie. I would play it over and over. But don't ask me how-years later-I had completely forgotten about the chandelier falling scene. It was literally in the climax, it was the best part of the film, it was beautifully chaotic, and it was awesome. Yet I completely forgot about it until I read the book that has it in Act 1.

All honesty I think it’s a form of transformation for the soul for grim jr. From how he became a selfish little boy who was just straight up jealous of his sitser to a more open minded and selfless who cares about his sister, not as much as minnie wants but maybe just enough to what she needs.
And seeing the situation their in now and what junior and minnie are going through in their own way, i saw their working up to an interesting transform of the body and power, and how he will deal with things in the future.
It will not be easy, but nothing is in life or death.

Boy I remember when deviantart was filled with those bases you could edit on paint,that was my first encounter with this artstyle. I actually never read Grim Tales From Down Below,I did spend a goooood while with PPG D which I liked more and would appreciate the coverage cause it was insane too

Just like you, this comic is a part of my youth as well. All the copyrighted characters were the appeal. It was supposed to be this great multiverse cartoon universe.
With time, I've realized many things about it.
I mean for starters it was my first exposure to lolita. The through line with Mandy, the Powerpuff Girls, and Mandy's daughter as well as several other characters are Bleedman's ideal body type. He likes his women young (although to be fair, he does draw sexy adult women).
His style meshed well with the long forgotten Cartoon Network MMO fusionfall which was a thing at the time.
And just like you said, the drawings are pretty good. The flaw (aside from lolita) is that the writing is terrible. It is a deeply ambitious project to write and draw as many well known characters as possible, but there's no real outline to make all these properties truly cohesive and unlike actual Cartoon Network it takes itself and its lore seriously so the holes in logic (like Mandark owning Jack bots) just creates one of many plot holes.
And that writing, it's terrible. It's just bad. It was easy to ignore as a child, but as an adult it's not how I would want any of those characters written, and it's just so painfully off model that it really is like fan fiction and not a true homage to the source materials.
Yup! Pretty much exactly how I feel about it too. I wish someone else would make an insanely massive crossover series with wild lore that's actually well written and not an excuse for weird loli shit.

Holy crap, I almost forgot about this crackship series! I also found it through AMV videos, thinking the art was wicked. I never fully understood or read the story, so even I didn’t expect certain parts.
I honestly didn’t expect the series to keep going on. Thought it ended in the early or mid 2010s. Funny thing is, the series got me into a series that takes the son of the reaper in a better direction. Death Jr. Death Jr is like if Tim Burton and Invader Zim had a kid. Has a few games and comics. Unlike Grim Jr., Death Jr. actually tries to improve himself as a reaper. The soundtrack for the games is also really good.
And demons aren’t ghosts, just as yokai aren’t demons.
Technically I think some yokai are demons, but not all. I think it just depends. I could be wrong though.

I do remember this comic and it's amazing how long it went on. As you started talking more about the story, I remembered "Oh yeah, isn't Nergal/Nergal Jr Minnie's sperm donor??" 33:43 it is actually cannon that Jeff eventually dies as in 1 episode he (or "she" as is revealed) is seen with a bunch of babies and reveals is about to die, but in the end Grimm keeps him alive a bit more by adding sand to his sandclock, only to scare Billy
Tbh, in better hands and a...non creepy writer. The story would of been extremely interesting. One main thing: change Minnie's sin! Make her want respect from junior,Wang validation. Make her envious of junior, which her screaming how she just wants him to love her for her,as she is, not her powers.
That,along with quite a bit of plot elements to change(especially that nergal situation), it could of been an extremely bittersweet action story about acceptance and validation

I think I missed the height of the popularity of Grimm Tales, but I did follow it for a long time. The art is definitely what held my attention the most besides the wack ass lore and world building.
Kinda weird & wild to think about the fact I use to read Bleedman comics. Apparently as a kid I missed the incest & the fact Mandy was having an affair with Mini's sperm donor, I some how understood enough to know Grim & Mandy had to get donors since Grim can't have kids so I just thought Grim was mad Nergal Jr's powers were stronger on Minnie when Junior didn't have powers from whoever was his donor. This is despite the fact the comic made it clear Mandy slept with Dan/evil future Danny & in a comic that was meant to be non-canon they had twins. I also apparently missed that Minnie wasn't allowed in Heaven was because of her feelings for Junior, I thought the guy let Minnie return to everyone because he felt bad that she wished she could be with her family again after seeing everything that happened.
I managed to miss/misunderstand a lot of shit to the point my interpretation of the comic back when my only experience with it was AMV videos would be a better idea which was Minnie & Jr as unrelated people adventuring through hell while Jr tried to help Minnie return home but failed so she's stuck down there as a zombie/ragdoll.(was unaware Halloween Town was involved)
At this point it's more surprising to learn that past staff Bleedman had help out rejected the idea of Chii(Aku's kid that weirdly looks like Blossom & wants Mimi like Minnie wants Junior) didn't want her in the comic at all & then mentioned that what they thought would happen did happen
I remember being OBSESSED with this comic as a kid LMFAO seriously seeing the thumbnail brought back so many memories omg
Yeah I remember being a big follower of the Bleedman works years ago but somewhat fell out of it due to it's long production time in between page releases. Glad you were covering this and hope you do more in the future.
