  • Something different from me this week, I was making some shave soaps and thought I would record the process so you could see how to make dual lye shave soaps.
    I got my basic recipe from the amazing Holly at Holly's Soapmaking (Kapia Mera), which I changed a tiny bit by swapping the 'normal' stearic acid with palm-free stearic acid and adding bentonite clay. I used the clay at a rate of 3% of the oils in the recipe.
    If you would like to get the recipe that Holly shared please visit her channel and watch her shave soap video here:

    Ellen Ruth also has a great video here:

    I would also recommend watching this video from Amy Warden, a great tutorial and you will get to see what can happen if your soap volcanoes

    Although my cold process soap making tutorials are of a tutorial nature, they are intended for people who have a good understanding of making cold process soap. The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

    My partner is *thrilled* that you're going to be selling dedicated shaving soap! True story: he snaffled a The Cube sample from an order two years ago, has been shaving with that ever since, and says it's the best experience he'd ever had with wet shaving. He saw the title of this video and demanded I add some to our next order 🤣

    I wish I'd seen this before I made my last batch... I used a stick and cooked over heat and it went like chewing gum! 😂. Fun times 🎉. I'll definitely try it like this next week. Thanks, Lisa!

    I love it when my expectations are subverted and the unexpected arrives on my screen.🎉 I found myself drawn to white flakes being added to white powder on white powder in a white pot as this is something we so rarely see in your more standard videos. I do love how organised and prepared you are, I think it sets a great example to learning soapers... But the differences in the recipe today made for compelling viewing.
    Thank you.

    I was so intimidated to make these dual lye shave soaps but I can't believe how easy it was. Any idea why people use hot process/crock pot method? Also, a lot of wet shavers refuse shaving pucks that have clay in them because it allegedly clogs the razor....

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think a lot of people just follow recipes. Ooh I don't know about the clay, I've never noticed any issues

    I did the soy wax recipe and found it didn’t hold its cream also.

    Does this soap need to "cure" with air circulation and evaporation? Could it be portioned into and "cured" in the pots that it would be used from?

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be 'cooked' as such through the heat, so it will be safe, but it does still need a little cure time. I do leave mine for 4 weeks, but I wrap them after about 1 or 2 so they don't dry out too much. They're not as hard as bar soap, in fact they are slightly pliable.

    I know this is an old video but I would just like to know what’s the time frame of making this soap with hand mixining only?

    • @IDreamInSoap
      @IDreamInSoap  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, the hand mixing is quite short, only about a minute or so, you need to watch the soap to see when it goes through the various stages (apple sauce stage then smooth and shiny) then it's ok to pour

    Hello. I really like your work, thank you. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong: When mixing oils with a solution (30-35 degrees Celsius), the mass thickens within a few minutes, I beat with a blender for a minute or two, I can’t make designer soap because thickens quickly. Here is my composition: Olive -200 grams, Coconut-250; Macadamia-100; Castor -100 grams; Shea 200 grams; alkali-116.41; water-280 ml., Silk 5 grams. Tried at different temperatures but all the same.

    • @sylviamontano5422
      @sylviamontano5422 ปีที่แล้ว

      I followed exactly just changed my oils to mango butter and kokum butter.. I don't get a mash potatoes/ applesauce stage it stays really smooth and then out of nowhere soap on a stick. I've tried without a stick blender and with .. without doesn't seem to be enough because it stays super soft and with a stick blender I get soap on a stick even with light taps.. can anyone help me figure out what's wrong

    • @ivanromanovych8903
      @ivanromanovych8903 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sylviamontano5422 I tried to make soap in the percentage ratio as shown in the video (that the olive oil was 36%-40%) and then I had the mass is not frozen and I was able to make my own soap design. try to experiment with the composition of oils, the more liquid oils, the less mass will freeze (this is my opinion). good luck to you

      Blending for a minute or two is an awful long time, you need to blend just until everything is emulsified
