I really appreciate how you take the time to pause the show before you make some comments. There's always so much going on, and too many reactors miss important details because they talk over the show.

You're right! She does one of the best reactions for The Wire!

    • @bigbad69
      @bigbad69 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Agree, she is so good at knowing when she has a point she can't hold until end and uses a quick pause to get a clear thought out, doesn't drag it out, quick point and back to show. Also she may not always get it right but her theory is plausible with the info she has at the time, some reactors go on long diatribes that leave me wondering if we are watching the same show, lol. Its like the old saying 'if you hear hooves think horses not zebras', way too many reactors are constantly hunting zebras. Jan is a keeper.

@@freebirdallen her Black Sails reactions are fantastic too, you should check it out if you haven't already. Almost everyone I know that loves The Wire also loves Black Sails, not that they are anything the same but both are absolute top tier(The Wire my #1), especially if you like great writing and fantastic complex characters.

Dee was going through what I went through when I got out of prison after realizing everything I was doing was so damn wrong and that I really had other choices but when you in the mix trying to feed your family it’s like you have a blindfold 🤦🏾‍♂️

    16:46 100% accurate.
Literally everybody (characters and viewers) instantly knew that Orlando shit was a dumb idea except D and Orlando... 😂

Yes, the characters in The Wire are very interesting because by and large they are not just stereotypes. People like Herc and Stringer are not just what they appear to be on the surface. Herc is loud and stupid (one type of stereotypical street cop), but he is also sometimes thoughtful, respectful and is more intelligent than he appears. Stringer is a gangster, an enforcer, but he is also very intelligent and wants to prove himself in the more conventional way too, it's not enough for him to be rich from drugs he wants to _prove_ (to himself, at least) that he is just as capable as any fortune 100 business man.

He doesn't go to a emergency room in his area. And he states he's been shot on a neighborhood corner. It has all the time.

I thought your comment "how do people even stay in this job" was pretty spot on. From watching this show it seems like the whole system is massively underfunded and corrupt. People just try to climb a career ladder and do things the way that benefits them personally as much as possible. Police brutality seems pretty embedded in the culture. You don't have the funds, time or the backing of your bosses to do things more properly and dig deep. On top of that, even if you'd solve a big case, there's not gonna be less drugs and violence without better structures and institutions like better education, healthcare, more equal pay, parental benefits, etc. etc. Seems like it would be extremely frustrating environment for an actually good crime investigator to work in. Of course these are just thoughts from watching the show but if the reality is anything close to this, things are looking pretty bleak.

I like your chain of thought but your "predictions" are still stuck in the regular Hollywood logic. They will eventually fade as the show progresses.

Nice! I just subbed because of your wire reacts. Any reactor, especially a channel just starting, with the wire is dope IMO.
The fans of this show can sometimes get really extra on the preaching. It's a very important show, but it's for everyone to decide why I feel. If nothing else, it gives everyone who watches it ALOT to talk about so that's magical -- even all this time later, sadly, since the issues are so real.

Somebody probably already said it, but the tune Omar whistles is "The Farmer in the dell" which is what the cartoon character, Elmer Fudd whistles when he hunts Bugs Bunny.

Just binged ur Wire videos Jan and you're a breath of fresh air in the react space. Clean editing, pausing when you're sharing your thoughts and it's very apparent that you're paying attention to what you're watching. Bravo and keep them coming please!

"I like seeing Mcnulty with his kid's"
The very next line "the thing that is questionable about him is...."
He lets his sons follow the prime villain of the story 😂

To be fair, police quite regularly steal money and assets from people they stop. John Oliver has a good segment on civil asset forfeiture that I'd highly suggest. My favorite story about this is Mario Balotelli being pulled over and having £25,000 in his car. The police asked him why and he responded 'because I can.' There's another version where he says 'because I'm rich' which is a more fun version to tell.
The rat was also a paid actor. Good episode!

Very true, he's an excellent foil to the detail and it never comes across unrealistic. You can even sympathize with him a little, he's getting hell from his superiors and from vested parties, but overall he remains a realistically frustrating superior.

    (1) Fantastic reaction as usual!
    (2) Please react to The Wire more frequently!
    (3) Law enforcement regularly takes money & property from innocent people who then have to spend money to hire an attorney to get it back. Currently there is a big story in the news about law enforcement taking money from people at the airport in Atlanta. They also take money in traffic stops because they can.

Love how you clearly didn’t wanna condone Bunks behaviour but the acting and writing is so good you couldn’t help but laugh along. My first thing I’ve seen of yours and I love The Wire. Subscribed. Oh and season 4 of this show is mindblowingly excellent. And you have a dog which is a big yes for me.

Each season is about some city institution (s1 is about police) and corruption with different interests inside it. Producers making the show had people that worked there knowing ins and outs, that is why this show looks kinda real. Cool channel by the way.

@@janandduke4216 Man, you pick up on everything in the show. It's awesome. That whole scene at the end with Bunk and then the analysis of McNaughty being bad news was just perfect. I think you've convinced me that a person really does have to have some city living in them to understand The Wire / Baltimore fully. Really loved your reactions to the show so far, and editing top notch. What's not to love eh Bunk?

I think it's because the material is so dense and so realistic that everyone can relate to it in different ways based on their own life experiences. It transcends political and cultural boundaries.
