    Here's the link for the Top 10 Survey. Easy to fill out, difficult to choose your 10!

      I entered my list and I am already unhappy with my choices. But it'll have to do :)

      @Triethylamine_1 fab, thank you, it's very difficult to choose. My consolation is that it will change over time. Super subjective.

    I have a spreadsheet in which i give a percent score upon finishing each book. In order to fill out your survey I sorted by highrst score and i was surprised at some of my rankings. It shows you that scoring is dependant on a lot of variables, your mood, timing, etc. One of the thing I realised lately is that the previous book can affect the current read. Now I change genres and alternate between scifi, fantasy and detective. Keep up the good work. Im enjoying your content a lot.

      Ditto on the spreadsheet, I do exactly the same, although I only started that this January this year. Thanks for filling out the survey, much appreciated! Cheers Gérard, thanks for watching 👀!

    Glad you got on well with The Crystal World. I’ve done the impossible task of completing the top ten survey. Best of luck with the channel.

    I think starting with Crash is very much throwing yourself in at the deep end when it comes to Ballard, but I'm glad he's redeemed himself somewhat with The Crystal World!
    I like your choosing a TBR videos because it kind of gives me inspiration to follow a similar process. I've a decent enough collection of SF now that I simply don't know where to start sometimes, so the completely unbiased way of selecting your next read is something I resonate with.
    I've splashed out a little bit on some more Christopher Evans - namely his book 'Omega' as it is one of his alternate history novels.
    Looking forward to the library tour - sounds epic.

    Good to hear that you liked The Crystal World. You'll probably like The Drowned World and The Drought as well. I'm also a fan of Vermillion Sands, High Rise and The Unlimited Dream Company, which few people talk about but should.

      Yeah I think his earlier books and short stories are most likely to work for me. Cheers Kris, thanks for watching 👀!

    List done. Would maybe choose five out of the ten differently on another day, but that's part of the fun. And yes, my list definitely skews older as I've gone for the ones that have stayed with me over the years. I don't yet know if the ones I have read for the first time more recently will linger.

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome, thank you. Agree entirely with how any such personal 10 lost will shift around. I need to redo my own, there's definitely been some movement since I did that video last year. Thanks for watching 👀!

    Your review has certainly bumped Hopeland up the TBR. Big fan of Clive Barker and the Rivers of London books. This week I mostly had a nasty virus so hardly read. Managed to slowly complete The Shining.

    "The Crystal World" is good, but If you want top notch Ballard, read "High Rise," his best 70s novel. I did the survey last week. I'm currently reading "Schild's Ladder"!!

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Schild's Ladder hard work? Despite having a physics degree, I find Egans SF to be too hard (as in hard sf). Cheers David, thanks for watching 👀!

    • @SlowDazzle11
      @SlowDazzle11 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SciFiScavenger Hi Jon. Very hard work! The fact that you with a physics degree find Egan difficult says it all. One example: "Schild's Ladder" has a character who lived in a Kahman manifold environment. I look this up and find out it's something in differential geometry. Help! Egan seems to write for a very small subset of the SF readership who know what a Kahman manifold etc is!

    Submission done, after much head-wracking, head-bashing, lots of compromise, and no small amount of regret. Btw, I love how you are prompted to submit another, despite earlier pleas to submit only one. 😃

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah, I guess I'm a bit of a shelf voyeur myself, especially when it comes to your 'vintage' stuff, as your shelves look a lot like mine(you've got a lot more books, of course; lucky you don't live in these tropical backwaters where SF books are scarce...well, books in general, as most locals think they make handy doorstops...) The newer stuff really isn't for me, though, all these endless sagas about space empires(whatever; they all sound alike to me...) I'm glad you're an 'old timer', though. My (short) experiences with YA booktubers were a bit unnerving, to say the least...😂

    I just finished David Weber's Crown of Slaves series. As expected, Weber left the possibility of a sequel, though this is unlikely, with the passing of Eric Flint. 😭. I was planning on starting the Shadow of Saganami series, before tackling the main Honor Harrington series, which I finally completed purchasing the entire series, with a possible detour for the Starfire series, or the March Upcountry series, but I had a sudden desire to reread Echoes of Honor, so I put up a token resistance, and I'm reading it now. 🙄. Oh well.
    Hopeland actually sounds interesting, except I've never been able to follow in non-linear narratives...🤯🤯
    Survey submitted, Jon. Have a good weekend laughing evilly over your new purchases.😈😈

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think Hopeland is non-linear, I think you'd be OK. Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do! Thanks for completing the survey, and thanks for watching 👀!

    Have you watched another SF Tuber site call “bookpilled”? The host Matt also delves deep into the broad array of Sci Fi old and new, and he brings an erudite approach to his critiques. Within my searches you and he are two of the two best presenters in this genre, though he is not as prolific as you in content.

      Hi Tom well I'm flattered indeed to be included with the "Jesus of booktube" among your top content!! His was among the first channels I watched a couple of years ago. He's much more erudite than me! Cheers Tom, thanks for watching 👀!

    What about a video about the bottom 25? This would be really interesting as I would imagine that the top 25 would include the 'usual suspects' included on numerous top 25 SF books (Dune, Hyperion, Foundation etc) and be rather mundane. Just a suggestion.

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right, certainly a few familiar faces in the top 5. So far, anyway. Yeah I'll have a look at the whole data set, see if there's anything else worth sharing. Thanks for watching 👀!

      @@SciFiScavenger No worries. Bytheway, at the moment I'm reading KJ Parker's Corax trilogy. More fantasy than SF but quality stuff with a wicked turn of dark humour. Also, the books are quite concise. Unlike many squirrel killers in the genre.
