I hope this year was better for you, I appreciate your videos so much this is only my second time having koi fry and there was a 5-year gap in between so seeing how your fish look as you identify the variety will help me also identify my own this is just the most fun for me when you said get in there and just look through them my favorite thing to do all day every day I see something that I didn't see before but mine are young one spawn is two months old the other one is one month old I have five separate netted areas in 460 gallon pond. I feed them four times a day with artemia hatch baby brine shrimp or frozen brine shrimp anm a mix of ground good high quality protein Mr kodama koi food varieties and Hi Silk. My concern is because it was two separate spawns I have a big size gap but had been keeping five separate sizes but something happened tonight I was watching my coy cam on the TV and preparing a counter offer for a client and I saw one of the baby koi eat four other koi and I couldn't believe my eyes, and then I saw another koi eat two! I stumbled outside as soon as the contract left my computer and now I'm breaking everything down I have another above ground ponds kind of like not as good as your best way but similar so I'm going to set both of those up I'm hoping by dividing them up they'll have more water volume and they won't eat each other I thought it was feeding them enough! Any advice would be so greatly appreciated I lost a couple Rubbermaid tubs to dragonfly lamps which was very sad I thought I had about 250 in the first spawn and the second spawn I thought for sure 1,000 and you know I lost some to Toby's and now I don't know maybe 250 total I mean I love them and I'm grateful but any advice would be so appreciated thank you I really enjoy your videos and appreciate you taking time to do it
Great informative vids for true natural pond hobbyists, could you please tell me, do you remove the koi from your main pond then add the spawning brushes to the little paddling pool? If so, doesn't this stress out the female, having to chase them with a net? Keep posting mate 👍
It's alot better spawning them in the pool cos if they spawn in the pond your ammonia and ph go through the roof when spawn and with all the reeds they get some right damage on them but in the pool nothing to damage them and when they have done they can go back into the pond where the water is spot on Thanks for watching
@@junction-27koicarp22 thanks for the advice, whenever spawning has taken place in my pond I'd always let the fish get on with it & I think the goldfish get involved unfortunately. That's why I was asking about "stress", I'll deffo remove the koi next season & try "home produced " spawning technique.👍
Great vids, growing some nice fry myself from last last summer,mine about 6 months old now, I may have missed it but can you give some ages to the fry in the next video. I live in South Africa so spring around the corner and hoping to get some more fry to grow on.

@@junction-27koicarp22 hi, winter Temps pond gets to around 10c but only for a couple months then from Sept steady rise up to around 26c, the main thing is our night Temps are warm as well, Feb we hit 40c+ in the day our growth is just steady throughout the year with extra growth in summer, it's all in the genetics if they are gonna reach 80cm they will otherwise we would have 2m koi🤣, we don't heat our ponds that's for sure. Will look for breeding vids, but the ones you bowled today,how old?
@@nicholasmills620 the sanke cross ogon are 7 weeks we are very late this year normally we have done breeding them for end of July but still got more to do the more we raise the slower the growth

Tobies are the koi fry that eat all your best fry its best to set up a floating net to separate them only way to stop them
