Lyrics: I was lying in my bed A creature void of form Been so afraid of everything I need a chance to be reborn I never wanted anything That someone had to give I don't live here anymore I went along the wind When I think about the old days, babe You're always on my mind I know it ain't like I remember I guess my memories run wild Like when we went to see Bob Dylan We danced to "Desolation Row" But I don't live here anymore But I got no place to go Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that there is to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna make it to the place I need to go We're all just walking through this darkness on our own Time surrounds me like an ocean My memories like waves Is life just dying in slow motion Or getting stronger everyday? I never took our love for granted You never left me wanting more But you'd never recognise me, babe I don't live here anymore Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that I need to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go We're all just walking through this darkness on our own Beating like a heart I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop I need some time, I need control, I need your love I wanna find out everything I need to know I'm gonna say everything that I need to say Although you've taken everything I need away I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go We're all just walking through this darkness on our own We're all just walking through this darkness on our own We're all just walking through this darkness on our own We're all just walking through this darkness on our own We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
Ah - The War On Drugs are currently my favourite band - their new album, of which this is the title track, is just wonderful. Backstory? Not really sure there is much of one - obviously nods to "Boys Of Summer" as noted, and as in many tracks, to Springsteen and Dylan - but the best meaning of the track is this: “I Don’t Live Here Anymore” celebrates getting to the point in life when you’re no longer drowning in waves of old memories but surfing atop them. The title is not a lament but a point of pride. Amid a daydreaming verse, Adam Granduciel wonders, “Is life just dying in slow motion/Or getting stronger everyday?” Then a cascade of toms and guitars give way to the majestic hook, and the answer could not be clearer. That should clear it up I guess :) Nice reaction Paul - and hopefully more from TWOD to come - fingers crossed from me that their O2 London show next April survives all this uncertainty 🤞🤞
yeah i loved that wall of sound song, great panning, good mix, and a whole battery of Fender guitars, but like you Highly i dont get the meaning of the lyrics, so i hope Paul will come up with the backstory, thx for the requestor and thx for the reaction, shared it to the Reacticide Discord for some more views, pls. stay safe and grts. from a dutch Fendernerd, living in Allemania
Lyrics:
I was lying in my bed
A creature void of form
Been so afraid of everything
I need a chance to be reborn
I never wanted anything
That someone had to give
I don't live here anymore
I went along the wind
When I think about the old days, babe
You're always on my mind
I know it ain't like I remember
I guess my memories run wild
Like when we went to see Bob Dylan
We danced to "Desolation Row"
But I don't live here anymore
But I got no place to go
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that there is to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna make it to the place I need to go
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
Time surrounds me like an ocean
My memories like waves
Is life just dying in slow motion
Or getting stronger everyday?
I never took our love for granted
You never left me wanting more
But you'd never recognise me, babe
I don't live here anymore
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
Beating like a heart
I'm gonna walk through every doorway, I can't stop
I need some time, I need control, I need your love
I wanna find out everything I need to know
I'm gonna say everything that I need to say
Although you've taken everything I need away
I'm gonna take you to the place I need to go
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own
We're all just walking through this darkness on our own

Brilliant band, saw them few years back
Sounds a lot like Styx. "Lady". The creature void of form lyric is actually really good.
It's so 80s sounding. Love it.
Best band ever!
So much talent very underrated.
it sounds like Kim and Jessie by M83
Sounds like tears for fears. That’s why it sounds familiar
To me it sounds like Waiting For A Star To Fall - Boy Meets Girl. The beginning at least
