- Hi all, I did my best to try to hit all of those super high notes but it seems I need to practice more! I hope this is helpful. Here is the fingering chart that I used.

I found out a week after making this video that if you go more kari, it will work a lot better for those super high notes.
Thank you this is very helpful, I started making shakuhachi and learning to play at the same time, I struggle a lot with the higher register and just learned that some notes just won't play even in profesional instruments
Another thing is too, I remember when making this video I was shocked that there where fingers for some of the notes up there like fourth octave E. I have never ever used that note. So if you don’t use it (I’ve also never seen a piece with it) then you won’t be able to do it so readily. A good shakuhachi should be able to play all notes to to an ab in the third octave.
If the shakuhachi is a violin, the recorder is a bass guitar. This is a nice video. I have a long way to go. Thanks, Renzoh.
You can do it!
"I never use them" - I'm coming from trumpet and we're all about high notes ... one thing observed in the trumpet community is, most people hardly spend any time up that high, but if you spend some time playing up there it gets easier.
yup
¡Excelente! Gracias. No hay otro trabajo así en TH-cam. Hay un sonido de viento, con ese toque dulce y áspero a la vez, pero con notas definidas: es un instrumento andino llamado Zampoña.
Hello there, thx you so very...Realy helpfull for me...
Gratitude Donald

It takes me about an hour of warm up before I can get the full range & control needed to play honkyoku. Do you experience the same thing? Can you please consider making a video or explaining how to practice so that this warm-up time is reduced? After about an hour of practice, I hit this 'zone', where I can effortlessly hit any note, using almost any embouchure. But then the next day its gone, and I have to slowly build it back up. This makes it difficult to perform, which I want to do some day.
Good Idea. I will make a video talking about this.
This Shakuhachi sounds so good. Can you tell more about it? I like the red laqcuer and white bone/horn. What would you recommend, a high end quality shakuhachi antique or a new one made by a master? One piece or two? Length? I would like one for meditation, but also have the possibility to play melodies.🙏
This was made by Yozan Hikichi. You can go to my description box and go to BUY A SHAKUHACHI. That will link you to his website. Let me know if you get one!
this fingering chart was design BY jOHN KAIZAN NEPTUNE. AWESOME SIR

Hi, im planning on getting a Shakuhachi soon, so im researching at the moment. Im struggling on what key to get. Should i get C key? I also play the DongXiao so i hope it wont be too hard to play at first. Also, another question. Im thinking of getting a 1.8, but im also thinking of a 2.0. Which don you recommend?
The standard key for shakuhachi is a 1.8 which is in the key of D. This is my number one recommendation/
A 2.0 would be a standard key if you played the northern kinpu school.
There's room for you to improve?
Awesome! You're going to get better
I don't even think it's worthwhile to go that high. It actually hurts my ears.
Great video, but I have to ask when the word embouture replaced embouchure
That’s just how us uncultured Americans say it.
@@TairyuShakuhachi But it’s soooo wrong. I think you ‘Mericans should just go off on your merry linguistic way and create a new language with no reference to any other language, please.
Lol I could say the same about the French and their terrible use of Latin. For example the word embouchure is built on two words from Latin. Sooo English is here to stay.
That was great! My dogs didn't care for my attempts, though... ;)
I found out since I made this to go more kari.
My Shakuhachi I made hits very high.thanks

Thank you
You're welcome
Wonderful.
Thank you very much.
I don’t know about wonderful but thank you. Those super high notes don’t quite work for me yet.
@@TairyuShakuhachi As a beginner, this & the other videos that you've made are fantastic.
Especially in terms of giving someone without access to a teacher a rough idea of what it is they're trying to achieve.
This helped me a lot & got me out of a wee rut as did the muraiki ones.
Hence wonderful.
Thank you so much. I’m very touched. I’m glad I could be of help. :-)
