@LonestarTrips That's a classy way to reply. I made the "mistake" of simply mentioning another channel on a popular TH-cam blog that specializes mainly in Amtrak travel, and they deleted my comment, and made it clear they did not want to post any replies on any further videos 😮.
@@kevinsmith5288 jeez, that seems like an awfully harsh response on the other creator’s part. I don’t mind people mentioning other channels in my comments. It often gives me a place to look for inspiration or collaboration, so post away!
The previous Amtrak Raleigh station was opened in the 1980s after Amtrak was forced to reroute the Silver Star via Rocky Mount. CSX abandoned the former Seaboard Air Line between Petersburg and Henderson. Before the forced reroute, Amtrak used a station north of downtown Raleigh it inherited from the Seaboard. The multiple Piedmont route trains use classic cars previously owned by Amtrak or New Jersey Transit, and originally by Union Pacific, the US Army and Kansas City Southern.
Excellent video! Thanks for showing so much of the interior of Raleigh Union Station; I'm almost as fascinated by train stations as I am fascinated by trains.
Noah Gershoff, RIght? Amazing video content really. Thanks for answering my question in the Q n A. That went way better than expected. I have gained so much respect for you. I had no clue you were born in New York! I would love to see a collab between you and Patrick Shea. I love both of your trip reporting styles one for aviation (him) and the yours for aviation + train reports. Great video again!
Thanks as always man! Maybe I’ll look into a collab sometime in the future. Can I ask where you found my last name? I knew it would happen eventually, but I didn’t expect it to crop up so soon lol.
@@thyagarajannatarajan6234 Ha I figured that would be the case lol. There's also an article from the Palm Beach Post about Brightline that has my last name in it, so it was only a matter of time before someone put two and two together.
I rode the Carolinian from NYC to Charlotte in 2019. Business class was a bit roomier but it was a long day 7am - 9:30pm if I recall. I took the Crescent northbound in a roomette. Shorter route too.
I can’t wait for go to triangle start bringing out the commuter rails sometime this year or a couple decades maybe don’t worry I can’t wait for a good triangle put in service
Seaboard Air Line ?? Let's not forget about the old SAL station on Semart Street - on the SAL S Line to Petersburg VA - maybe to be reconstructed one day. I rode the Carolinian to Washington on the last trip before those tracks were pulled, in the 1980's.
@lonzeo if so, well and good..... I have waited for years to see it return; however , the longer the right of way goes down - the dollar signs go higher, and lack of interest from all parties - mainly CSX - will eventually doom it.
I was wondering what camera gear & mount you use to film out the windows. I need a better system for filming than shooting handheld from my phone for hours when I take the southwest chief in march. the money I've made from YT so far should cover anything reasonable. I burned 2 years worth of points that I've accumulated for a coach class trip across the country which I'm super excited about!
I use a GoPro Hero 9 Black and the GoPro suction mount to film out the windows. Of course, some of the shots are from my phone, but the GoPro helps to supplement the window footage. Hope that helps and enjoy your trip in March!
@@LonestarTrips thanks! was debating between the 9 and the 10 and since they’re pretty close in price I’ll get the 10. I’m probably gonna film highlights and side view clips from my phone but suction a go pro to the rear view window from la junta to as far west as I can
I have! It was actually the first trip report I ever made 😊 But you won’t find it on this channel, it’s actually on the second channel: Lonestar Rail and Aviation.
Hi Lonestar, I love your videos. I’m thinking about visiting this area this summer. What city in your opinion is more fun for a day trip, Raleigh or Charlotte?
Greensboro is not to be overlooked either. We live in Piedmont and have taken several day trips to Raleigh. Train station just in better location to walk to things. More to come in Charlotte as they build new station to rival Raleigh

Greensboro, NC, home of my favorite Travel TH-camr, Jeb Brooks.
GreenerGrass x LoneStar Trip Reports collab 👀
@@marcitos_9329 that would be fun 😁 I’m moving back to NC in July so maybe I’ll reach out to him about a collab.
I think since you like Jeb, you may want to check out T1D Wanderer. They have similar styles.

As am I! Train stations are such integral pieces of the travel ecosystem that it makes little sense to gloss over them 😊

I use the piedmont to commute to and from college in Greensboro NC!! NC is one of the few states that has good train service!
Central and lower state NC, at least. Upstate NC is left out. Hopefully the proposed Salisbury-Asheville route gets approved!
Trains are so good at rocking you to sleep. Happens to me all the time in Amtrak’s sleeper cars. xD
I am so excited for the rail expansions in North Carolina

Love your videos Lonestar. Can’t wait for expansion on S line and high speed rail to VA.
You will need to come back to shoot that!
Raleigh is my home!!
Always glad for your trip reports because I get to see the train stations really well! Did you enjoy doing the Q&A?
The Q&A was good fun. Was nice to not have a script and just speak my mind for a bit.
When are you going to ride New Jersey Transit?
Nice video. It would have liked to see also business class section since the price is not much higher. Also is there a changing table for babies?

Are they actually officially called smoke stops or fresh air stops
I think it’s either or. I’ve heard conductors say both smoke stops and fresh air breaks, so I don’t think it matters.
Potentially unpopular opinion but I find the newest Amfleet 1 interior (which is now about 8 years old) even more comfortable than the Amfleet 2.
7:07 How-
Looks like #183 needs some TLC ;(
Almost all the genesis locos do, they've had a hard life but earned their keep
✌🏾
funny that 183 had acually been repainted at some point in the 2010s actually so that thing has been abused
Definitely go business class! Coach cars tend to smell like urine and too many passengers in there have no class at all.
Hi great video and first viewer 😀

Will be getting a resturaunt soon, they are activly building it set to be open next year
