  • Whether it's their unconditional love or incredible loyalty - the benefits of having a dog are endless. But for six-year-old Rubin, who is registered blind, getting Vesper the Golden Retriever has been truly life changing. As one of the UK's 'buddy dogs' - Vesper is trained to help children and young people who suffer from visual impairments. And after welcoming him to their family, Rubin is joining us with his mum Eve and sister Molly.

    Kind of random, I hope the sister is doing well. Having so much attention on a disabled sibling especially when they have a dog can be a form of emotional neglect you don’t even realize is there until you’ve grown up

The older sister died as a late teen, and the younger sister was always kind of difficult and never had a real long term relationship as a grown up, she was often been overlooked as a teen

      Yes technically they are meant to be friendly but normally when the vest goes on, they know that they are meant to stay by their owners side and not go everywhere but you can see here that with this dog, even with the vest on he is so friendly and wanders around to meet people which doesn't meet the criteria of a guide dog

    Vespa seems to be walking strangely. I think he needs checked out at the vets. He may be in pain which is why he can’t seem to hold his concentration very long or constantly feels the need to be moving around.

      @loulapahoola6520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They get checked very thoroughly by guide dogs vets before, after and during training. A lot of guide dogs don’t pass to become a guide dog. I don’t think vespar is walking strangely.

      @@loulapahoola6520 exactly, trust me Guide Dogs are extremely careful as to the dogs that pass the program as each one costs £50,000 to train. Hi, I'm Eve, Rubins mum. Vesper does indeed walk ever so slightly gingerly on his back legs however as everyone has said, guide dogs get checked regularly. He had an operation on his back leg recently to remove a large skin tag. Please don't assume he hasn't seen a vets.

Needless to say that was dispelled immediately. Enjoyed this piece and Buddy Dogs are great.

      Hi there. Forgive me if you are a professor or veterinary surgery and have a special skill of being able to be so sure of this diagnoses without examining the dog, but these dogs see real vets quite a bit and have round the clock access. The dog iss obviously super well cared for.
