    It definitely has appeal, but about 2x too expensive. People forget multitools are half measures to full tools. It excels in portability... the rest is a compromise, including the magnacut blade.

      @Bearded_Tattooed_Guy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      Good point, multitools do not replace tools.
      They do a half decent job of it, but they do an excellent job as an alternative to two empty hands.

    Good to see you again Pete! As for knife rules here in Australia…I was in the car park of a hardware store last week and a woman was having trouble loading a heap of ‘bundled’ goods into her car. I offered to help. Whipped out my pocket knife (Kizer Hic Cup) and clipped off some ties to make the bundles easier to manage…as a cop walked by. He watched what I was up to and said “You guys managing okay?” When we said yes, he just smiled, nodded and kept going. We might have tight knife laws but by and large our cops are sweethearts. Provided you’re not carrying a giant dagger and waving it around threateningly like a dickhead, chances are they will leave you alone.

  • @handocalhoun475

    Sorry about your chickens. There are no "American" knife laws. Each knife law is regulated by the state and local jurisdiction. I open carried an Ontario Knife Company carbon steel butcher knife in a self-made sheath in San Francisco completely legally. In NYC, a knife can not exceed a 4 inch blade and can be carried ONLY if concealed. No pocket clip, nothing, but can be fixed or folding. Where I live in North Carolina, fixed blades have to be open carried regardless of length. If it is a 1.5 inch neck knife worn under the shirt on a chain, it is illegal. If it is a 7 inch USMC Ka-Bar carried in an exposed belt sheath, that is legal. Bowie knives became legal in Texas only in 2017 (all knife type restrictions were removed). Sadly, there is enough wealth that the USA could have its freedoms AND free health care.

    • @JWfrom95938
      @JWfrom95938 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not to sound like an idiot, or pendantic...but what's the definition of a "Bowie" knife?

    • @handocalhoun475
      @handocalhoun475 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@JWfrom95938 That is an excellent question! There is no real answer. There are courts that consider any large knife a "Bowie" knife. There are some people that consider a knife a "Bowie" as long as it is large enough with a clip point. There are the purists that consider anything different than an exact replica down to the placement and metallurgy of the pins in the handle of the original nothing but a "Bowie-like Object." BUT, considering the whole "Remember the Alamo!" where Jim Bowie died and that the "Bowie" knife is sort of a Texas icon, it is odd that it was illegal for so many years.

    I can openly or concealed carry any knife , or a pistol, legally in my state, as long as I don't use them in commission of a crime. There is extra charges with extra heavy penalties applied to people who use a weapon, knife or gun , while committing a crime. I think that's as fair as it can be. I love seeing a lady with a buck 112 on her hip or a guy with his family at the grocery store with his Glock on his hip. I have no fear that he would use that gun against me unless I tried to do something bad to his family. I am not talking crap or dropping one of the basic lines against your country and our health care system is a sad mess to be fair. The US state of SC decided that they will punish people who use knives or guns in a crime extra hard and that non criminals can carry guns and knives all they want making it far more dangerous for a criminal. So, far it has been working, I can't give long term data yet as it is a fairly new law.

    Hate to hear that about your flock. I’ve been really liking my Arc. I’m the facilities manager at two historic theatres, and it has really been hand. It’s basically everything I wanted the Wave to be, one handed opening, and exterior tool access. Though convenient, I still have to remind myself they are on the outside. It’s tough to relearn after 20 years of using a Wave. My only downsides have been that I had to tighten the tension on both driver insert holders. I lost the micro driver the first day somewhere, it just fell out opening it I guess. That was easy enough, but the main driver was a little more tricky, but not impossible. I would like to get a belt sheath to hold the extra bits that isn’t as bulky as the one that comes with the Arc. I use them fairly regularly at work so it’s good to have them on me. This sheath reminds me of the ill fitting thrift store suit my grandmother got me when I was younger; shoulders too wide, and a bit oversized. If anyone has some suggestions, please let me know.

    I have nothing to back this up, but I think for the most part common sense applies with knife laws in Aus. No one is going to give much of a damn about a multi-tool or Swiss army in your back pack. Especially on a hike or camping trip.
    Wandering around with a Rambo III knife in a holster on your hip in the city center is likely to get you in deep poop.
    That's my understanding anyway.Even without being that ridiculous, in WA fixed blades are the ones more strictly policed.

    I don’t gloat about local knife laws because mood can change very quickly. I feel sorry for those who are so restricted. In my state in USA a folder of any length is allowed. Recently I went to my doctor and they have “weapon” detectors at door. I turned around and put Spyderco in car. Forgot I had Arc so checked it in with security team. When I go to work knives are limited to 2.5 inches but I have never changed what I carry. Never had a problem so far but I try to be careful. I have a feeling that laws will change soon here and “weapon” detectors will grow at an amazing speed.

    For me money is no issue at all when picking a multitool, yet i feel like if you are a handyman the ARC is superior, when you wanna edc the most usefull toolset the Victorinox Swisstool Spirit MXBS (with the clip) is far superior. Things i have noticed over the years of EDC high end knives, all kind of LM and VIC multitools is: Bladesteel is far overrated for edc since i use a K390 knife at home for all my cardboard cutting and use my edc knife to open packages and slice an apple where bladesteel is really irrelevant. Also the ARC for me has 4 different useless tools for edc being: Can opener, saw, micro bit driver and a bitdriver with the different bitreplacement. The Victorinox Swisstool Spirit MXBS only has one being: can opener. I know it also has a bit driver but i called it useless on the arc because having a philips and a flat is more than enough for edc. I never carry a bitkit and if people be honest with themself you never need one for edc (unless you are a handyman on the job, in that case get the ARC!). Ontop of all i said the Victorinox Swisstool Spirit MXBS is lighter and of higher quality.

    12:10 (I'm commenting a lot...sorry) Yep, I have been guilty of just yelling at the dogs to shut up without checking what they're barking at. Mainly because Bella, as she gets older, will bark at almost any noise that she hears in her slowly going deaf state.
    However, I've learned that Bear, her son, barks because he needs me to check out what he's seen, heard, or found that might be dangerous. He's learned very well this past year. As soon as I head outside, he stays where he is and points with his head, then comes back to heel without being asked. He looks like a big boofhead, but he's a very cluey 2-year-old.

    4:15 I didn't do an obligatory flashback when I first watched this, so here ya go: Flashback to 1982
    I had been living in the bush some 30km outside Cooktown in Far North Queensland, close to croc country, and in an area nicknamed 'Death Adder Valley'. Due to the fact that there were wild pigs and other dangerous stuff around, we used to carry various sized fixed-blades on our belts. I had a skinner, a sticker, and a big bugger.
    We would head to town once a fortnight or so for supplies, on foot, because we didn't have a car. It usually took a full day or more to get to town. Anyway, we would walk into town with our knives hanging off our belts and no-one, not even the local sergeant batted an eyelid. Because everyone, including the local sergeant, carried at least one biggish knife on their belt. Back then, in the remote parts of Australia, knives were considered tools, as opposed to the laws of the day for city people.

    Putting manga cut in a Leatherman is like putting a porche engine in a ford fiesta.
    What is really bothering is once you made such a slim blade and add a thumb stud you can no longer use traditional sharpers. The thumb stud is in the way or the Leatherman tool is in the way to achieve the right angle. So it never can be sharpened properly without removing the blade from the tool.

      Your hosts probably should have advised you that you were at risk of losing your nice knife. It's not really socially acceptable to carry a knife everywhere in Melbourne, but as long as you're not in a high risk/crime environment it's unlikely to be an issue (public transport and stations, city/CBD after dark, licensed venues, etc). You also probably don't match the usual suspect profile for knife crime.

    Awesome review,I've had my Arc since a few days after my birthday, can't complain,I paid more for it cause it was a beautiful tool,an I wanted my name engraved on it and a Kool pattern,no issues with my bevel on blade like some I've heard or crappy wire cutters,they must've caught the bad batches, pliers stiffening up after use a tad bit not a issue really,I'll just oil it a bit,still breaking it in still, everyone likes it an ask to borrow it in the family,only a couple people I trust at work using it,I've carried my surge to work,but I'll never replace my surge .it's a beasts of a tool,but the Arc is significantly lighter on the belt,so I'll carry my surge in my bag,also,I got a regular bit kit with Arc an a separate box that had two other different bit kits thst i wasn't charged for,one had a micro bit driver since the Arc already comes with one,i put one of the bit kits with my surge so I'll always have extra bits,I love also everything one handed opening when working on something when you only have one hand to grab the tool to deploy it,so yeah a tad pricey but hey I got it for me,I understand people that dont like it cause of the price or they have had several issues with theirs,I don't regret buying mine,since it was my birthday an I wasn't the 40th garage one but was sold out,I just held out for the Arc.

    Third video I've watched on this tool and definitely the most informative, I feel like treating myself to one but now I think I'll stick to my charge titanium, I've had several over the last 18 years (good old leatherman lifetime guarantee!) and really can't fault them, daily work tool and blade as a tradesman and for little jobs around the house.
    Gave up the trade almost two years ago to become a full-time knifemaker so I don't use the Charge much these days.
    I didn't think much of the free P4 so I should really stop looking at this bloody Arc!

    Not gonna lie, had my eyes on this one and mostly for the blade. Went for the Skeletool CX instead, so far not regretting it. The one thing I find myself wanting when only carrying a knife is the pliers, and now I have a pair of bits on there as a added bonus, and not too much bulky weight in my pocket.

    I’m in QLD and a lot of Tradies carry Leatherman on them. Nobody thinks anything if they are in a shop with one on. Let’s face it, common sense says he looks like he’s a Tradie. I carry a Mini Bugout in my leg pocket for work, and if they ever did pull me up. I’d be honest and say well I need to open and cut down boxes and it’s my lunch knife. I don’t look like a threatening person, and I don’t have it for anything else. I’m also a middle aged person, not a young person. Sorry about your chickens, we get very attached to our animals no matter what type. You got to save some more.

    Just want to say Hello from America. I also own the ARC and it is a fine multitool. I sometimes carry it on me or in my backpack. My backpack goes with me everywhere. I'm a aerospace mechanic by trade and it really comes in handy when I'm out of the shop. It does feel like a premium multitool and I appreciate the magnacut steel. I also own the surge, free p4, and wave in addition to other brand multitools from victorinox, gerber. and SOG. I haven't broken any tools on ARC but I'm not putting them through intense abuse. You are a excellent reviewer.

If the dog will go after your chickens, it could hurt other animals & people...The cutters are a problem, I personally will not purchase any more Leathermans or cutters till LTG fixes the situation....Agree with you on the Wave...It is kind of weird that you need to "eyeball" what you are going to cut, before you cut it...Knife laws in general are ridiculous....Your feelings about this time of year are more common than you think...people expect you to be happy when you are not, though you try like hell for the sake of your family & close friends...just always remember the "reason for the season"....😊 Thank you for all your efforts this year...May you & yours have a Happy, prosperous safe & productive New Year '24...🎉

    Enjoy your videos. Really like the fact that you show yourself actually using the tools to do some repairs. Most people talk about the tool and their opinions of it but never show them using it. They talk about how important it is to have steel so good that it never needs to be sharpened yet they never actually use the knife. It sits in a box with all their other multitools collecting dust. Bring this to an actual work site and it will disappear very quickly. You will either lose it or it will be stolen. Nuts that these cost so much. In Canada they are $299 plus 13 % tax, that is $338.00. I would need to earn around $500 Cad dollars to be left with the take home pay amount of $338.00 to puchase one. With the average cost of a house now at $600,000 and above even in the country who has money for this.

      That or the endura or endela LW. The LW, is, yes, lightweight. On my endura LW the ergos are hard to beat. Good in the pocket, good relatively thin grind, edge on k390 lasts forever, blade shape is a great all rounder. It's around water frequently and rust hasn't been a problem - though i try to keep it dry of course. It's a workhorse that i have on me whenever I'm in the yard, garden, and often on the job site as well. Of all that, i guess the ergos and edge retention are why it has stuck around so long, but everything else mentioned plays a part. Hope that helps.

      Sometimes a pocket knife with a solid steel and overall functional design will best any design that trys to reinvent the wheel plain and simple besides why pick a unique knife thats super thick or has a weird blade shape(looking at you Grimsmo norsman) that honestly doesn't do anything other then be a giant pain to sharpen. Its part of the reason i like the endela over my spyderco southard yes the southard looks nice but its stock is too thick and the ffg of the endela makes it a superior slicer and the k390 performs great for a tool steel then again i don't find the endela a "boring knife" cause Function should always come first over your knife looking unique or pretty its a tool not a prom queen or super model.

      If it's anything like my Police 4 in K390 (they are similar to be fair), the combination of light pocket load, slim pocket presence, excellent slicing blade geometry, and the benefits of K390 steel make it the obvious choice when selecting a knife each day.
      The buzz of having fancy handle scales wears off after some time, just like the excitement of playing with a new fidgety knife lock design. If the knife isn't comfortable to carry and easy to use and maintain, I find that it tends to stay put away. For all their pedestrian plain-ness, the FRN scales that Spyderco uses provides a solid grip while making BIG knives light enough to disappear into pockets. While backlocks are plain and boring, they're also strong, reliable, and they can be manipulated with a single hand with a bit of practice. Between the Stretch, the Police 4, and the Endela/Endura family, they just give you everything you need in an EDC blade, and nothing you don't.

      Friendly reminder to those not in the know: WD40 is NOT a lubricant. When used on lubricated parts it acts as a solvent, washing away the previously applied oils. After the WD40 evaporates away, it leaves surfaces essentially bare, increasing metal-to-metal friction and wear.

    We have crap life laws in the UK too, but they are at least fairly clear. A non-locking sub 3 inch knife is allowed pretty much anywhere and any time. The locking knife thing could be tested in court, but like you, the prospect of being a Test case Doesn’t really appeal. Unfortunately, though, multitool with locking blades full under the ban. Still relevant to Americans in major cities, tho. Even in states with loose knife laws, it's not really socially acceptable to whip out a larger modern folder. Acquaintances are going to think of you as the weird knife guy if you take out your ZT 452 to cut the plastic wrap off of something. Multi-tools and, like, Case knives are still your only realistic option even if the law allows for large folders.

      Interestingly, in the US you can get a harsher prison sentence for using a knife in self defense than using a gun. Juries tend to view knifing someone (even in legal self defense) to be a much more vicious and personal act than shooting them.
      I do disagree with you on the large folder thing though. I was taking an archaeology course a couple months ago and I whipped out my 4 inch long Spyderco Police to cut twine used for marking out dig plots. The professor didn't bat an eye, and none of the socially conscious young university students with colorful hair dye seemed to care either. As long as you're not randomly taking out your knife and waving it at people menacingly in the streets, I don't think anyone notices.
