The ornate pin with the loop is actually a glasses holder, the loop was at the bottom. My mom had one, one of the ear pieces of the glasses hung from the loop. Nice find!!

Great digs! You rarely see the dollar coins come up, it seems like you see more Morgan's than Peace Dollars and Eisenhower Dollar coins ! So that makes it really cool!
It was a real thrill to see this Ike dollar in the hole. Might not be valuable, or even very old, but to cross an item off my list makes it priceless! Well maybe not priceless, but a really nice dollar. lol.

Hi Jason mate, love the Bar B Q fork, or a devils fork.....LOL the dollar was a great find, and as you said its a good size for someone to lose...but as you know over here we find the cartwheel twopence sometimes, and if you can lose one of them 2 oz coins, you can lose anything.......!!!!!! its a pity you dont live closer mate, looks very promising around that area... a good all round hunt for the three of you....hope all is well with you and yours.... take care mate GL & HH Tom
Thanks Tom. I do love seeing those cartwheels. For my area, 1700’s is about as old as it gets, and finding stuff from that century is pretty rare. Take what I can get though and just try to have fun along the way. I bought an Equinox by the way. If I have any questions I may just ask you!

I saw a post on those pencils, maybe I’ll look into them. Funny, I’ve always cleaned my wheaties with a regular sharp pointed pencil. Works well and the carbon doesnt scratch the coin. I wonder if these pencils are different somehow?
I think what you are doing with a reg. pencil is a great idea ... the cleaning pencils are harder material than reg. lead pencil ... but they dont scratch ... Later Buddy

I try if they are visible. Sometimes it takes me weeks to clean all the coins well enough to see tiny details. For time reasons I just give them a light cleaning for the wrapups.

Kinda funny, I started metal detecting two years ago and my first month of detecting I found the same year Eisenhower dollar! Kinda funny how everyones finds differ in timing to find them. First silver I ever found was a Standing Liberty. I have heard some people taking them ten years to find one.

I appreciate it. The Garrett Ace series are good machines for a beginner. Price won’t kill you and they have some advanced features. My buddy Andy is a Garrett dealer. If you decide to get one let me know. He might be able to beat the advertised price.

Those pencils have a learning curve to use at least it did for me but they work great once u get the hang of it

No, it was a regular issue dollar coin back then. Just never quite as popular as the smaller denomination coins.

I've always used sweat to get field dates off my coppers. Maybe the slight salt content helps. Not really sure but it does work

I appreciate it. The Garrett Ace series are good machines for a beginner. Price won’t kill you and they have some advanced features. My buddy Andy is a Garrett dealer. If you decide to get one let me know. He might be able to beat the advertised price.
If Nibbler's scale has that eyeglass as an 8, there must be a huge tie of items at a 10! Just kidding, it really was a cool piece. Bryan's silver mirror handle was pretty ornate. Shame there wasn't more to it.
