someone commented on this somewhere else on yt - i think Internet Today, that Shatner is also a recovering alcoholic and his wife died from alcoholism - if so, spraying champagne around him at that moment just adds to the overall insensitivity of it

Shatner lives in a neighborhood near mine, and his dobermans are a _constant_ topic of discussion (and ire) on Nextdoor. He's become a local legend in that nobody can stand him. Pretty impressive in your ninth decade.

I happen to love William Shatner, and growing up in Montreal
enabled me to see where he grew up and he came from humble
beginnings. When his wife drowned, he built a recovery home
for women trying to recover. He is actively involved with them
and on his own time. It's not just that he financed it. He's a
good man with a big heart and I will always be proud that he's
    one of "ours".

Shatner helped give Aliens confidence enough to prevent our destruction, which is nice. Solar and battery tech from our space program seems popular now, wish we'd kept it up but moronic narcissists embarrass us on the world stage instead, handing those opportunities to nefarious nations as a result

I feel like this clip will outlive us all as an nft capturing the moment when reality and pure comedy clashed in such a way to transport our world as we know it to some new clown universe. 300 years in the future, families will leave up a hologram of this clip for 2 or 3 weeks, exchanging gifts on Shatner Day.
