What I have ALWAYS loved about the Obamas are that they make it evident that they not only love each other...but they really like each other...I know it sounds weird to say...but what I mean is...they talk like they are friends and like 2 people who actually get along and enjoy each other's company in a non forced looking way

She's so right about just drinking more water. In my early 20s I used to drink sooo much soda, often getting Double Gulps at 7-11, and noticed a steady weight gain. All I did was start drinking more water and gradually lost that weight. Soda started tasting super sweet to me. I still like soda but as a treat, not every time I'm thirsty.
I’m from Germany and it’s unbelievable to me that people in America sometimes live off of soda 🙊 I was never allowed it as a kid, only in restaurants and on Christmas 😅😂

This morning, I was scratching ideas to how I am going to help my kid to be healthy while enjoying food. This conversation gave me a light bulb 💡💡💡. I can't wait to get home and turn that show on. I definitely do not the outcome but I feel positive about it.
The "America 15" is absolutely a real thing for immigrants. I gained 15-20 lbs when I moved here without changing my lifestyle. There is just so much sugar in everything!
@David Moore yes! Sugar is coded by many names and is absolutely added to foods you wouldn’t think contains sugar, such as pasta sauce, salad dressings and other condiments, breads, crackers, chips, soups and soup bases, etc. Sugar is in EVERYTHING!
I think the choice of food in America is what’s available in the fridge and pantry. When I was growing up, it was what available on trees and on season. Now, I live in a city, it’s easier and faster to have a take away. No fruit trees or land for growing vegs. But I wish my kids have something like what I had growing up anytime.
I don't think kids have that much choice because they're mostly dictated by the adults in their lives. So what the program is trying to do is show them (kids and then by association parents) that there are healthy alternatives. I hope it works!

I bought Michelle's book in Spanish, and I loved it! Learned new Spanish words, because it is written in Castilian Spanish! One of the new words I learned was 'furgoneta' which is an SUV! Didn't know that! Great work, Michelle!

I watched a food program years ago with children K thru 3rd grade and they had no idea what a potato was, or a green pepper, celery, etc. It was truly a sad reflection on our food issues in America 😞

What kills me about food insecurity is that no one has to go through this. We are in a country that just spent billions on high tech killing weapons but says no to feeding people. Who ever tells me that speaking like this is unpatriotic needs to feel what these people who are going hungry feel and tell me it's ok to stay quiet because your in "The Best country ever" Please spear me. This senators need to be volunteers at food banks and shelters before they can serve that should be the prerequisite.

when i was a kid (nearly 60 now) my parents had to drive 60 miles to have us eat at McDonalds. now the father of a 14 year-old badass daughter who loves whole foods far more than fast foods, i reckon a key factor of healthy nutrition for kids rests within the example of their parents. kids imprint adults. great interview! best two laughs on this plane(t)! The word nervous makes me nervous. My feelings were more like...Overjoyed, Honored, and Respect. Michelle appears to be comfortable. And I love that.
