Great commentary. I visited Normandy riding a cross channel ferry from Portsmouth England, in 1998; 3 years before the filming of BofB. I remember the paratrooper mannequin hanging from the steeple of the church in Ste. Mare Eglise. Now more than ever, I want to go back.
What a great video direct and to the point through the entire assault, it was like I was there. Thank you for that. Not sure if you have already but you should do the narration for all of their battles.
I was there last summer and had my pic taken on the road into Carentan and around the square. I was only in Normandy for four days and could have stayed for four months to see all I wanted to see. Learned more about what I missed after I returned. There was so many heroes in the 101st in that campaign.
The Screaming Eagles are still considered Hero’s ! My Dad fought in the 101st. Airborne but he never mentioned it unless he was forced to! When he died there was a large group who attended his funeral!!!
I am so fortunate to have heard first hand the stories of my father in law (USN WWII) and also my brother's father in law (USMC WWII). Both of them rarely talked of their war time experience to anyone and never told the whole story to anyone normally leaving out the gruesome parts. They told me everything and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. RIP Brownie & Norm we miss you! FLY NAVY!!!
My grandpa was the leader of a 12 man scout team and was shot by a German sniper, shooting from the bell tower of a church in Carentan. Fortunately grandpa survived, but his life was cut short due to injuries. 83rd Div. 331st. Company M.
really one of the best ever documentaries i saw with photos from where they attack and some details what soldiers said that is a solid format for a documentary hope you can make more like this in the future

Bob Rader is a local hero, going into teaching at elementary and high schools, and also at the local Boys School Reformatory (juvenile hall). At his passing, the entire town turned out to commemorate a newly rebuilt bridge, that is a main artery over a river, named in his honor. Joe Toye and Babe Hefron, and Don Malarkey were there to remember their friend and brother.
Man, that was so good. Now do this for every battle, ever! ;) THIS is the type of stuff we need to really bring battles to life in a Then-and-Now-type of way.
Your voice over on this video is absolutely fantastic and this is what we need to be teaching these young kids in school so the people understand the sacrifice and what it took to give them their freedoms that they have today because if they don't learn this then our society is doomed

If anyone ever has the pleasure to stay in Carantan, the Hotel 101st on the Rue Holgate is a highly recommended place to stay, Nancy, the owner, is a great host and the hotel is a surviving building in the town And it’s close proximity to all of the other historic places is superb 👍🏻
Have learned more about WWII and the 101st from the internet than ever from my Dad, who was the 502nd PIR S3. Have seen some things mentioned by my Dad at times. I do know he fought with LTC Cole on D-Day which is something in itself.

Superb explanation of the battle, I liked the format and the level of detail surpasses anything else I’ve seen. My one suggestion would be to leave the maps up a second longer for those of us with slower brains to absorb. I wonder why they didn’t go right flanking over that bank rather than up the road. Happy to be a subscriber.
Great vid ! This battle is now playable on PC in the game, Post Scriptum. The game map exactly represents the actual streets and buildings and it's a meat grinder for both sides. The courage of those men who fought there was amazing. In Caen, the British lost a man for every yard they gained. Good thing the German commander at Carentan had pulled out most of his troops !

Every time I'm in London I stand in the Churchill War Rooms and listen to his speeches. It's extremely disappointing that the man who firmly said "If the British Empire and its Commonwealth lasts for a thousand years men will still say, 'This was their finest hour' ” is thought to be fictional! 😢
I preferred the format of this video so much more than the others where there is a featured speaker that is the focus of the camera rather than the fields and areas he is referring to.

Was in Carentan twice over the past few years (I live nearby in Ireland) and although I knew a decent amount of the history which made for a fascinating couple of visits, I wish I had seen this video first and had it with me as I went about. I was with the 101 AB Divion's Veterans'Association on June 6, 1994, when they drove into Carentan, encountering the Fallschrimjager Regiment Six 50-Year Reunion. Our Screaming Eagles had no wish to fraternize. They felt the only good Germans were at La Cambe.

I struggle to find the words of admiration for these brave American soldiers.I can only hope that their families,on seeing the peace and calm of present day Carentan,can find some solace in those injured and lost.

Our tour group drove by this intersection back in 2018 per my request... the guide was not going to show it to us so I just requested a drive by and took some quick snapshots from inside the van.

I graduated 8 years ago or so, but when I was in school, WW2 was covered at least 5 times over the years
