    Using an extremely expensive intercontinental missile to deliver a conventional warhead might also be a sign of just how low Russia's weapons stockpiles have become.

    The facts are that Russia will struggle to use mid-range weapons, as they are now in the range of Storm Shadow and ATACMS. Using ICBMs will enable them to attack from a distance, but it's not really the major threat or win they are trying to make out,
    No1) ICBMS are a much higher cost to a tactical missile. How much more cost can Russia waste on hitting civilian targets with no discernible benefit to their war efforts if they are now using ICBMs.
    No2) This is a massively unique opportunity for the West to see how current anti-missile technology, old and new, can be applied to defend against Russian ICBMs. We should supply more air defence systems to the Ukrainians as this will be a live test situation that we should take full advantage of, and it would also help the Ukrainian people.
    No3) Whatever way Russia tries to spin this, they are now being forced to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut, which is a clear indication supporting Ukraine with longer-range weapons is changing the way and the cost structure Russia has to deploy to fight and clearly, this should have been done ages ago...

  • @shugieshugied2269
    @shugieshugied2269 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    Quite likely the ICBM was some Soviet era system with the nuclear warhead removed, the weight of such a missile will do considerable damage without any warhead. Probably not very accurate either, nuclear weapons don't need to be. ICBMs are hugely expensive, as messages go, this is not a cheap one, and not one Russia can afford to repeat too often, Interesting that they fired at Dnipro, rather than Kyiv which probably has air defences capable, in theory at least, of intercepting ballistic missiles, imagine the Russian embarrassment if their "message" was shot down!

    I don't know what attack happened based on your description. You said Russia launched an ICBM from a certain region. Then you name two specific types of weapon air-launched ballistic missile and cruise missiles. Neither of these weapons are icbms they simply are not. So I don't know if those are the only weapons used in this attack or if they were in addition to a single ICBM launched by Russia. Let's see an ICBM was used. That means Russia used a missile that cost 20 times as much to deliver the same Warhead if the missiles have been using for 3 years. It pretty much indicates Russia is running out of missile so they have to use the real expensive ones the real real expensive ones. You are out of your lane on this one professor.
