I can't find that cool circle with a shadow in Canva to save my life! NDI seems to have changed how they do their downloads, so I'll search to see if you have any newer videos about it! You are the truth brother. Bringing in sources has been one of my biggest issues in dealing with this. This puts it on the same customization level as other software like wirecast, OBS etc...

Wow! So freaking dope. I've been looking for such detailed clip for a while now. I even purchased Photoshop to use the magic eraser to remove layers to make it transparent. Didn't even need photoshop when I could have done it in Preview Mode. This is awesome. OMG! So excited lol. Thanks so much. Would love to learn more about how to zoom when you need students to focus on a specific area within the screen, Thanks so much Marshall.

I've created multiple overlay lower third using Canva (love it); however, when I upload it to ecamm there's a background which I do not want. On Canva I can't remove the background because it's animated mp4 file. How can I go about removing the background in an animated overlay lower third? Can you help?
Thanks so much, Trish! Yes Keynote is very similar but the benefit of Canva is that there are a lot of pre-installed backgrounds and fonts, more shapes and tools for design. I just wish there was a way to "punch out" those sections instead of having to use Instant Alpha in Preview.
@@themarshallfox Even with punching out the sections using Instant Alpha is easier than Keynote! And yes, the pre-installed backgrounds etc in Canva just makes it even more flexible. So thank you!

Wait a sec! This NDI Tools is a game changer for anyone on Mac. About to see if this also works outside of Ecamm on things like OBS, etc. This is the window capture alternative I’ve been looking for entirely too long. Thanks 🙏🏼 Gonna check out Ecamm now because of this tutorial. I was honestly not into the subscription stuff because no other live-streaming program is doing all that without merch store benefits and other huge features, but I’ll give it a shot.

This was terrific and so simple, Thank you Marshall. I would love to use NDI can Converter but I have some issues with it. When I open it, in the tool bar, it doesn't sow file but "Capture". In Capture I can choose my google chrome window. In Ecamm I can see the new source from scan converter but it sows a black screen (even when I select another application like my Mail). The settings au authorizations seems Ok in System Preferences. What I am doing wrong 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Chloé, NDI's Scan Converter got a bit wonky since we released this video. However, Ecamm Live now has a Screenshare Overlay feature that works flawlessly. In the Overlays Panel, you'll see a monitor icon for the Screenshare Overlay. Check that out.
These are great thanks so much! Nice to see all these possibilities. Especially that app for app display. Will be vey helpful to go through some of the templates here, that’s vey valuable. I think a lot of the issues I have faced are workable. I do hope to review what kinds of audio production possibilities there are on ECamm. Will be something I’ll be keeping an eye out for. I know it’s possible to just run a DAW in the background for recorded videos, but for live video, I haven’t found a good way to have good multi-channel audio in the feed, other than having a manual mixing pad, …I have a Scarlett-based rig for instance, so another investment for an 8+ channel mixer is unfortunate.

Marshall, when I do the same thing with NDI, I get everything like in your Ecamm, but when I, later on, share the screen with that scene - the mouse cursor isn't showing. If I just share another scene where I have the PiP with that same app, the mouse is back. Great video otherwise, specially the part on Canva, thanks!

Marshal!! I have one more question: If you don't have a green screen backdrop, how do you blur your background? In the camera effects, the blur option only works if you have green screen checked as well. I'm fingers crossed you have a solution. 🙏🏼🤞
What file type do you download this as? When I go to delete the inside of the shape it doesn't go black, it goes transparent... This is absolutely FANTASTIC! Wanted to make my presentation pop...and you just gave me the BOMB!!!

The alpha channel thing works but I find there's little white left over on the edges in certain places and I can't highlight/delete them. Does any one have tips on how to get rid of that?

Just eyeballing it based on the layouts in Ecamm. To be sure you can open up Ecamm and take screenshots of the different interview mode layouts (ex. 2 people, 3 people, 4 people, 5 people) and use those as a basis for your overlays. Import your screenshot into Canva. Build your overlay on top of it, does that make sense?
@@ResurrectionHouston for those you may have to use a camera overlay and do a custom size vs. the default layouts. Do “Source “ -> Blank -> then add in your camera overlays. Change the camera (pencil icon) -> then change the aspect ratio to custom -then resize

Hi Lauren! You can achieve a blurred background (or bokeh effect) with your camera lens. You don't need a green or blue screen to do it that way.

It’s supposed to be transparent. It looks black on mine because my computer is set to “dark mode”

If you haven't already, make sure it's 3840x2160 and the edges surrounding the white space needs to be a dark color. The more contrast, the better.

do you have to know what the size of the cutout is before you make it? Or are you freestyling the cutouts?
Just eyeballing it based on the layouts in Ecamm. To be sure you can open up Ecamm and take screenshots of the different interview mode layouts (ex. 2 people, 3 people, 4 people, 5 people) and use those as a basis for your overlays. Import your screenshot into Canva. Build your overlay on top of it, does that make sense?
@@themarshallfox makes sense. some of my cutouts were cutting off heads in the frame. so I had to pull the cutout higher. thanks!
@@ResurrectionHouston for those you may have to use a camera overlay and do a custom size vs. the default layouts. Do “Source “ -> Blank -> then add in your camera overlays. Change the camera (pencil icon) -> then change the aspect ratio to custom -then resize
