Kid, that weekend gig was great fun. I looked forward to it, getting there sometimes 2 hours early just to sit in the studio. My new home studio is just about ready for my newest weekly show. To be announced. To see a guy that beats me for style, see the videos of Ron Sedaille.
Just checked in on my TH-cam page to find all of these kind comments. It has been my experience that when you are passionate about something, you shine. I love radio.
I love how he uses his hands and arms for gesturing even when no one can see him. Dan Acree is an awesome Radio personality!! I'm watching him so I can improve my technique at my elementary school where I DJ twice a week during their lunch time. I teach English in Okinawa, Japan.
Very nice Dan i enjoy the lesson i have never gon to school but i can peform well in radio as presenter because of your radio tour. From Tanzania Africa i apreciate you
My first REAL paying job in radio was at Los Angeles country giant KFOX-AM in the 60s. So, it is in my blood. I especially like the new country we hear today, but am drawn to the classics as well. In the studio, it is a fun format to DJ, with energy and the chance to communicate with the listeners.
There is something magical about Radio. Once it gets in your blood, it's there to stay and I'll guarantee you that Dan knows exactly what I'm talking about! :)
Thank you my friend! As a weekend DJ having been out of the day-to-day radio business for many years, those 4 hours were like a day at Disneyland. In most cases, I was so wound up with excitement the time felt like 30 minutes. The studio was on a high floor over a main intersection, and although no one knew I was up there looking down, I imagined every single car had be tuned in.
Warren F. My first mentor in the radio business taught me a simple trick. On a poster board, cut out and paste photos of people who represent your audience. That's not everyone, BTW. Keep your target audience narrow and use photos of people in your primary target: example, men and women 35-50. When you talk -talk to them. Pick one to talk to in every break. Say things that you think will interest each one. That has always worked for me.
That is an excellent idea! Thanks for the tip, Dan. So far i've found that the hardest concept to learn in radio is how to have a genuine conversation with the listener. :)
@danacree198 I've been watching him on here for years! He's another one that does it right! Tight board, hitting the post, just can't beat it! (I spent 17 years in the business before leaving it to go into law enforcement. Still love it!)

David, so sorry for the late reply. KBBC-FM 99.7 is very local. The transmitter is in Tishomingo, OK and on a good day reaches only about 30 miles to the south.
This comment is not a spamm: --------------- Dan AcreeJosiel de Assis absolutely correct! It's a habit I learned the hard way. In the old days before sliders, you had to turn the pot (volume control) up and then switch on the microphone. It's really not necessary anymore but once you have made the mistake of leaving the mic open once, it makes a believer out of you. Yes just about extra caution. ------------- Tks Dan, you're great!
Also serves as a visual cue that the channel is off. It also acts as a safety valve so that if you accidentally hit the "on" button, the mic won't actually be "live" due to te fader being on 0. I used to only fade up channels that were cued and ready to go to air.
My new show is centered on music from the Billboard Hot 100 chart that entered the Top 40 from 1980 to 1999. If you were a singer/songwriter or connected to a hit record in that window, get in touch.
Hi Dan, glad I found your videos! Would like to show this to a lot of people who thinks that you need a lot of fancy gear to make a good radio show... One question: Is this an american thing to just barely decrease the songs voume when you're talking? In Europe most of the stations lower the music much more during talks and ramps ;-) Looking forward to listen to your next weekendrewind show!
