The post battle analysis is good and important in wargaming. Some thoughts…..Whilst this is just a GOW it appears to have been enjoyable to play but in my humble opinion I sense neither side had a plan prior to battle. You need to think ahead and try to determine what the enemy will do and why. Identify its main emphasis and have a counter. The German losses were very heavy especially in very precious armour and really make this Battlegroup somewhat combat ineffective post battle I Alas in these one off games I have seen far too many people just chuck stuff in which German commanders would be very reluctant to do in a series of connected actions / contacts. Personally I view this being far from a draw because a draw at this stage of the war is a really loss for the German forces due to attrition. I think for the Germans you really need to try to represent the combat units of this period which were more infantry based due to losses and are best in defense which was what they were doing in the main and also why their counterattacks were blunted again and again because the Russians are now far more adapt at fire and maneuver. Well, we play mostly on points, and not much on 'scenarios'. You know, that is a Bulge list against a Berlin list. Normally my 'German' opponent comes with grenadiers and a few heavy thanks (Ferdinands and/or Tigers). Thus I came with arty, to devastate his grenadier formation. So he surprises me with a panther list... and I chose to attack. My idea was to dig in my Red Banner, soften his infantrymen with my artillery, use the IL-2 to kill some panthers, and then flank him with my T-34/85s. I also had my scouts ready to jump out and go for the objective. Problem was... could not range in the 76mm arty. Tried and failed 3 times. Anyway, two more turns, and I would have, likely, broken his formation. But we cannot play forever. And thanks for the profound historical view. 😊

Another great batrep. Five Panthers gone! Wow. I see someone mentions they are hit on 3s which partially explains it, and their low cost.
