I somewhat agree with that and I understand they want to show the level, however amateur mistakes aren't part of showing a level off. Mistakes that someone who has played any battlefield game would not make.
Yeah, tho I think the commander is the Scottish one, the engineer is Welsh, the driver is English (most likely southern/London area) and a English gunner (sounds northern/Manchester area)
how do you think the war was won? with everyone sitting in trenches lobbing grenades and artillery at each other? other parts of the war involved assaulting out of those trenches and skirmish battles to even break through fortified locations.
The World War 1 was won through massed infantry charges armed with bolt action rifles and occasionally backed by slow moving, cumbersome tanks. Nobody was running around with submachine guns or semi-autos like in the video. ---- Soldiers in WW1 did not carry submachine guns like WW2 assault infantry. Almost everyone in WW1 had bolt action rifles (even semi-automatic rifles were rare), and fully automatic weapons were basically all heavy machine guns that had to be deployed and carried by multiple people. Even in the final year of WW1, it was still rare to see automatic weapons that could be carried by a single person. The light machine gun Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), for example, was made in the final year of WW1, and was a large weapon that was still used as a deployed machine gun rather than a portable submachine gun. Bolt action rifles were also common well into WW2, and was the basic issue weapon of the common British, Japanese, Russian, and German infantryman for most of World War 2.
DICE did such an amazing job showing the horrors of war in the beginning with the bird flying; where the simple nature of a bird is flying above the death and destruction below
Go play Red Orchestra and get back to me. Subguns were only experimental. 99% of soldiers used bolts. Game's fun, but a lot of the guns don't feel WWI.
Dirty Beef Curtains You're ready to skip out on money? Cod players don't even let the thought of skipping money occur to them. But look guys on the bright side battlefield is for men right?? :)
what the reason they don't even let the thought of skipping money occur to them is because they are all children without jobs so they can't skip out on money even if they want to.
+EJM3 No, but people have said IW is better. The only thing IW is good for is MWR (I will admit I was fooled into preordering. I never even played MW1, only 3, but this is a good a time as any to play it)
Nicholas Stavinoha I know. I might just cancel my preorder and wait for it to sell seperately or just play the original. I won't be duped into playing Battlefront 2
Imagine the battle of Verdun where the Germans opened fire with 1200 guns bigger than these and launched 2,500,000 shells. So many bodies piled up on the ground and in the mud that they issued an extra ration of cigars to cover the smell of rotting corpses.
Just think. This is probably one of the greatest games ever made but just think after BF1 they would make a Battlefield based off of WW2 that would just be amazing.
Ya I was really excited about this game, and don't get me wrong it looks proper fun but as a student of history it outrages me. I know it sounds stupid but ww1 is one of my favorite points in the 20th century and this game mocks it. Why didn't they just make a WWII game? With all these fast guns and prototype weapons
arbiter569 exactly. WW2 fighting styles with a WW1 skin. I wanted a WW2 game, and when they announced it to be WW1 I thought it would be a nice change to play a game consisting largely of bolt action rifles, but nope! They had to ruin WW1.
It would get boring real fast if it were more realistic. Battlefield with only bolt actions and a few MGs? That would never work. But yes I do kind of see your point.
Most of the story takes place in 1918, which is very late in the war. At this point, with the advent of tanks and other technologies that could break through standard trench defenses, the combat was much more aggressive than in the first three years of the war and began to look more like what we recognize from World War II. Of course, there were still tons of trenches and they still served as the primary battle lines on the Western Front. And of course, video game logic. I'm not sure where this gameplay is supposed to be set though. It looks jungle-like.
Vincent Gaulin The sad part is all the people exclaiming, "This is how the war actually was!" I just wish people would accept this as fantasy. It is simply disrespectful to believe this is how the Great War actually was. Unless they make a game where you spend 20 hours out of the day standing in a trench, making sure to never step over the parapet, and measuring the rate at which your feet rot off, there won't be a game that was how the war was. Unless they make a game where a man in a brilliant red and blue uniform leads you into a hail of German machinegun-fire in a dense collumn without any cover or fire support, there won't be a game that shows how it was. Unless they make a game where you can't even stand due to your gangrenous feet and can't even aim over the parapet because you've been fed on rat broth and stale bred for the last six months there won't be a game that portrays WW1 accurately. And when you do finally rest your rifle over the parapet and your buddies do too, the man to your left and right get their minds blown out by the opposite riflemen. Enjoy the game for what it is: fantasy. Don't give the game credit for what it isn't: reality.
At the start, there were 5 crew members. The driver, Edwards. The gunner, McManus. The officer, Townsend. The repairman/backup gunner, Finch. And another backup gunner, Pritchard. Finch and Pritchard die in the first mission. The tank can still function. Townsend is injured at the start of the second mission. In the fourth (and final) mission, Townsend sacrifices ginseng’s to kill the many Germans. After this, the story ends with McManus and Edwards surviving.
... And they gave the Germans an FT tank. The AI also have absolutely no reaction to being shot at by an Anti-Tank rifle. Of course the campaign is a waste of time...
it seems that they are, they almost didn't care about history until the game came out and then they cracked open their textbooks and went onto Wikipedia just to criticize the game on historical accuracy. I like the game, I like the story I don't entirely care about historical accuracy, if I become interested in a certain event that the game covers then I will look it up and read about it.
I had a kid tell me that America wore knight armor into battle with giant machine guns in WW1 I was extremely baffled until I read up on BF1.. And if you think that's stupid another asked what did the knights in America look like in the Dark ages
The fact that he picked up a rifle and it was covered in mud....... The detail in this game is amazing. It's the little things. But watching this guy play was a little painful.
It is really nice to be a pigeon, that they have put in this game, because is a representation of their use on the war. The things that they was part ignoring the the danger and the beneficts it carries. Only seeking their way to home... I love the pigeons by the way.
that's good, it is the type of game for patient players anyway. I will go play some RO2 and kill some commies and nazis with cool old bolt action rifles.
Eli Börk in RO2 there are no heros. There are only bodies after that goddamn commander friendly -fire his team with arty and doesn't know how to stop it.

It's times like this I wish I wasn't a die hard history buff so I could just enjoy the game, but by god, seeing glow sights on a Mauser C96 in the year 1918 really started pissing me off.
HaldorMaximius if you really were a "die hard history buff" you'd know that they had the glowing sights. However they were rarely used. It seems odd but they had them.
Noah Bromarf too bad America is back to back world war champs can't wait for ww3 America is about to go for 3 peat baby yeah money team The Best Ever #TMT #TBE
Oh really? Because the game is made by mostly swedes, seems to be about mostly britts and is released world-wide. Didnt rly think that one through, did you buddy?
nah I think he just got lazy. He/she made it through the first enemy camp without letting Black Bess get scratched after all. After wards he just went in guns blazing instead of sneaking to the field guns and destroying them.
This is looking true thus far. We've seen Italian Iron Man lone wolf charging down a mountain with a machine gun, we've seen Edwards the Tank Driver fighting waves of Germans. The only big infantry battle we've seen is the prologue, and you can't even win that one.
after the character opens a box, it no longer looks infront of itself, but redirects its eyes automatically to the opened box took game devs a long time to do that + the allied AI kills stuff, as it should
I don't know, they just don't. And just ignore what people are saying, that doesn't automatically mean that the Germans or the Austro-Hungarians or the Ottomans are automatically going to be portrayed as being evil.
Will we get a campaign where we can play as the French or Germans or is that too hard for dice? Sick of them marketing their games towards an American/British audience, not too mention their hollywoodised version of ww1 with smgs and semi autos everywhere.
I agree its a shame they have warped what is a European conflict into some american centered war. To make it reflective of what ww1 was like for the majority of people they should get rid of all semi auto guns, they should not have included america and they certainly should not have one campaign in africa.
Just because they lost the war does not make them evil. The lines between good and evil aren't as clear cut as they may seem, unlike the with the Nazis in WW2. It would be nice to get both perspectives/sides of the story of the opposing powers, I think it would make it more interesting. Also it is still argued today whether or not Germany deliberately escalated tensions for their own motives which intended for war, at its core though WW1 was an Imperial war fought between Imperial powers so simply saying one side was more evil than the other isn't right.
The only things I dont like about BF1 is weapons. Too modern compared to what they really were. And too much automatic weapons. Other than that - brillant.
I wish they brought the fov out abit on these type of videos. On a console version...60 fov or whatever, yeah sure, but for youtube video ? not everyone sits on a couch watching youtube on a TV, so those of us who use a computer screen, this could look much nicer if it wasn't so zoomed in.
Stephen McAllister I have to agree i was expecting more epic scripted missions like in cod 1 & 2 where u had some grate action, this feels like those games where u go and kill all, u are alone with a small story and not real action or support from anyone else but u,like Rambo, which makes it feel like it's not a real battle,or it's a small meaningless one nothing important, and it gives a boring vibe.
CARBINEZzZz But bf doesn't come out every year. Also in battlefield there's a lot of different play styles which keep it more interesting. Also bf has improved it's customization and never use the same animations. So don't know what you're talking about. You would if you actually play a lot of both like me.

I am really disappointed that you can't play as the Germans.
It's called Multiplayer
Dee Burgess it's called a bias
Wanted to wear that pickelhaube
It's called losing the war
Yup I played earlier today, It's all American and British Biased. Gonna brainwash so many kids who have no idea how the World Wars were...
All the negative comments are infinite warfare employees
augusto 22 haha
augusto 22 Or stupid kids with an inaccurate view of the game. "So many automatic guns", lol
augusto 22 so true haha
Implying that this game is historically accurate.
Likewise
So fed up of the ww1 Shooter's, why can't we have more modern shooting games set in the future.
Said no one ever
no you mean the WW2 shooters, Dev's have rarely gone back to WW1
obvious sarcasm is obvious
its a troll
thi tran you don't say?
I hope everyone realizes that the reason the player is so slow and "bad" because IGN wants to show the level off
Classic IGN right there mate
Evan Randon atleast they used PC
I think he is "bad" it's a arcade game anyway
Zindai x They played kinda very slow poi
I somewhat agree with that and I understand they want to show the level, however amateur mistakes aren't part of showing a level off. Mistakes that someone who has played any battlefield game would not make.
6:42 that fail. IGN Seriously aint see it? AHHAHAHAHAAH
It's like you've got all of Great Britian in an Ironclad tank - an Irish commander, a Scottish engineer, a Welsh gunner, and a British driver
Wot u sey m8
Yeah, tho I think the commander is the Scottish one, the engineer is Welsh, the driver is English (most likely southern/London area) and a English gunner (sounds northern/Manchester area)
+Keith Beckett the last one is definitely Welsh.
At least one of them is.
Gus R
Could be Northern Irish
Apparently this game takes place in an alternate WW1 that had no trenches and where everyone has fully automatic sub-machine guns or semiauto rifles.
And here I am wondering where the french and musketeers are.
+Edward Faurhabel They already ran away.
Edward Faurhabel muskets had been out dated about 100 years before ww1

ww1 tanks were much slower than that scene in the cut-scene where it practically jumps out of the ditch.
The True Gamerz Dynamite well do you want it to get stuck then you cant play the game?
Mr. Pedobear actually it was quite common in ww2 for germans and russians to use captured tanks from their opponents.
azzzanadra no was just saying the tank should slowly climb out of the ditch not burst through it like a rocket.
The True Gamerz Dynamite Yes, but isnt REALLY common see dozens and dozens of british and french tanks with the german camo.
And this is ww1 bro.
DICE did such an amazing job showing the horrors of war in the beginning with the bird flying; where the simple nature of a bird is flying above the death and destruction below
Way too many sub-machine guns and semi-auto rifles. Kind of kills the feeling of being in WW1.
CaliPatriot88 well at least they are historically accurate
CaliPatriot88 Honestly I wanted another WWII game so im perfectly fine with this.
CaliPatriot88 there were some smgs in ww1
It would egg boring with only bolt action rifles and pistols

Watching 6 mins into this, this is already 10 times better than BF4 campaign.
ill pass id rather play a more realistic shooter like infinite warfare

ColoradoStreaming so sad..
imagine the battle of the somme
Check out the Brusilov Offesive as well on the Eastern Front.
and all three of these battles were being fought at the same time at one point.
Just think. This is probably one of the greatest games ever made but just think after BF1 they would make a Battlefield based off of WW2 that would just be amazing.
Jake Reeson They had one Bf1942
Jake Reeson a remastered version would be nice tho
I think CoD did WW2 better with Cod 1+2+WaW (a both BF and CoD fan)
they could continue with the ww1 setting. just different people
"This is probably one of the greatest games ever made" I Stopped reading there.

It would get boring real fast if it were more realistic. Battlefield with only bolt actions and a few MGs? That would never work. But yes I do kind of see your point.
Gageinator is right, It's not a history book.
arbiter569 you know they had those guns in ww1 right
IGN needs to hire a pro gamer.. because that was cringworthy.
Keaton Cloud not even a pro, just someone who is good at fps games.
Jose I know! It's like watching a grandma play
no we don't need to see even worse COD players who strafe contantly and reload 1 bullet play this game
I honestly don't see the problem with this particular gameplay. I bet most people bitching would do even worse themselves.
Or just someone who has ever played a fps
How to destroy a incredible gameplay of Bf1 ?
Give to IGN
mastervince Ikr
Honestly, if there is going to be fast tanks and SMGs everywhere, why not do WW2 instead lol
Kevin Sosa Because this is DICE's own version of world war 1, pretty much. Also, they've already made a Battlefield 2.
***** Battlefield 2 was modern
Kevin Sosa I know but it's still Battlefield 2, which means that they wouldn't be able to call a world war two Battlefield game, Battlefield 2.
Kevin Sosa look up ww1 weaponry EA actually did it right. don't act like you know everything.
Pat B but Most soldiers had a normal rifle
12:30 What?? you shot with one of loudest guns and stay "stelth"?
Jhonata Gabriel that's what I said he shoots like 4 of them

What you are stating is simply wrong.
Thanks, I was starting to feel annoyed by the lack of support I felt over my opinion about that shite they are showing us.

How is a Mark V crewed by a captain a driver,a (now dead) engineer and a gunner your missing about 2-3 crew men
lol and one of them was OUTSIDE the tank the entire time lol.
Its just a game ...
They can still drive the tank they just won't be able to man every gun.
I just thought it was werid calm down guys
At the start, there were 5 crew members. The driver, Edwards. The gunner, McManus. The officer, Townsend. The repairman/backup gunner, Finch. And another backup gunner, Pritchard. And next we wait for BF 2: WW2, pls
there's so much games in WW2 tho, i would prefer cold war, vietnam or some colonial war
SledgehammerSp can you imagine battlefield in medieval time or ancient japan
LiamK0125 vikings would be perfect
Skoomax what r u talkig about
Skoomax xD
Tanks that go at 15 MPH, SLRs and SMGs everywhere? Even the single player is set in the wrong war.
... And they gave the Germans an FT tank.
The AI also have absolutely no reaction to being shot at by an Anti-Tank rifle. Of course the campaign is a waste of time...
Ok, bye
it's a game FFS, the pace would be far too slow otherwise
When a game is too realistic it's not fun at all. If the race is too unrealistic the developers would go bankrupted or lose all of their audience.
Jon Snow it's not call of duty lad, I'm going to molest this campaign
ugh i hate the fact you have to lone wolf the campaign with no friendly AI fighting along side you
Take it easy now, this is just one of the story campaigns, i'm sure we'll see more in the other stories since this is the trial version.
Toby Conoley no friendly AI? Wtf have I just imagined a tank killing the enemy? Surely not? Am I going insane
yes you are
The first 40 seconds has to be the most relaxing thing ive ever watched/listened to. I am going to come back to this video just for that
Everyone is now an instant Historian now apparently....

The dark ages is in year 500.

I've never been so excited about mossy rocks my entire life.
Whoa, that song at the beginning was amazing.
Does IGN hire 12 year olds to play the games for them?
a 12 year old would have done better
It is really nice to be a pigeon, that they have put in this game, because is a representation of their use on the war. The things that they was part ignoring the the danger and the beneficts it carries. Only seeking their way to home... I love the pigeons by the way.
Game is so biased with American and British scenes. I played earlier today and that's how it felt. It's good but too biased.
who won ww1? it sure he'll wasn't Germany.
what do you expect anyway though. American games have American bias. Russian games have Russian Bias. There is gonna be bias anyway
Congrats on playing only one mission with one British character
What? there is hardly an American bias in bf1 they tried to make it the opposite of American bias by playing as the unsung heroes of ww1
I smell a neonazi
i am a COD follower because of its great single player experience, but i genuinely think that there cannot be a better campaign than this
I will pass and wait for new red orchestra vietnam.
thats what im getting lol
Yo
that's good, it is the type of game for patient players anyway. I will go play some RO2 and kill some commies and nazis with cool old bolt action rifles.
swirekster I appreciate you for playing red orchestra instead of whining about the historical accuracy of bf1. you're a true hero.
Eli Börk
in RO2 there are no heros. There are only bodies after that goddamn commander friendly -fire his team with arty and doesn't know how to stop it.
I love how there's weapon crates like bad company. Finding a rare weapon was one of the most rewarding parts of the campaign.
6:42 Bayonet charge... off a ledge.
Mike Hubie that's IGN in a nutshell for ya
I actually love watching gameplay with no commentary.
I think I'm getting a fever Boss *cough* looks like I'm going to have to stay home next week.
I totally was expecting the bird to get blasted by an artillery shell or something. Glad that didn't happen.
Why does the Mauser have glow sights?
davidpiksi they don't glow is a green transparent plastic piece they put on the sights
Modern fiber optic sights do glow though.
actually, it's made of radium... it was already available during WW1... but probably not very common
No. It wasnt common, ( at all ) in fact. -_-
haha germans learn in second war how to make guns from metal stempled sheeds, all before was frezed from one block of steel. Nobody use fiber optic, and glowing light was use only in compasses.
look at that level of forest details, amazing! You guys should do a Vietnam War game next with that beautiful detailed work
The "camo" on that German tank looks like something you'd see from custom tanks on MP...
James Palmer it's not German it's a French Renault FT-17
I am so glad they finally bring back some "half open world" campaign :) and a good story
It's times like this I wish I wasn't a die hard history buff so I could just enjoy the game, but by god, seeing glow sights on a Mauser C96 in the year 1918 really started pissing me off.
HaldorMaximius it's tritium
HaldorMaximius actually used, believe it or not
Used on modern guns since the 80's, yes, used back in 1918? No.
Its true just looked it up, you can get actual night sights from ww1 for sale with radium not tritium (no longer luminescent) for a few hundred.
HaldorMaximius if you really were a "die hard history buff" you'd know that they had the glowing sights. However they were rarely used. It seems odd but they had them.
Medal of Honor:Pacific Assault remaster.Onigai shimasu!
The person who is playing this is so incompetent.

yep
Gim Uni He's using a mouse and keyboard. Look at they keys
Merci à toi grâce à toi j'ai pu finir la mission que tu as fait
In what place of the world does this level take place in? It's a jungle, so it doesn't seem to be in Europe...
It's a forest, not jungle
lol yea nothing to do with a jungle lol its just misty thats all
Well, the plants on the ground looked rather tropical.
Except for the color of plant it's look like northern France forest ;)
SWAMP!!!!!!!!!!
My dad played this one he loves battlefield 1
Wait we get to control a Bird freaking awesome
Battlefield 1 Campaign is literally gonna be 11/10
It's more epic and beauty than call of duty
the hitmarkers add so much to the immersion and sense of setting
the bird in the beginning was the Pc watching PlayStation and xbox battle.
"Bess has taken a real hammerin'. Take your toolkit and see what you can do". *Three random wrench tightens* "Good work!"
Does the person playing this even have thumbs
Or common sense
Obamadon he doesn't need thumbs if he's on oc
thumbs for what ?
Imagine the horror of being hit by your own artillery after a messenger pigeon arrived 5 minutes after you'd moved position.
I'm so sick of ww1 games, how about a game set in 2100 where we can fly in space?
Gogsley Go play Infinite Warfare, i still like historical battles better.
Nice meme.
Gogsley Star Wars?
Gogsley Go play power rangers if you want that
Power rangers is in the alternative present time....
What guns should sound like in shooters...seriously the audio is amazing
The germans were the heroes of ww1. The game should have been from their perspective.
Noah Bromarf it's goes both ways
Noah Bromarf too bad America is back to back world war champs can't wait for ww3 America is about to go for 3 peat baby yeah money team The Best Ever #TMT #TBE
There no heroes or villain for ww1. Just victims of the governments pushing them to do war.
This game is for an American audience.
Oh really? Because the game is made by mostly swedes, seems to be about mostly britts and is released world-wide. Didnt rly think that one through, did you buddy?
The scream at 5:24 LOL!
FPS: first pigeon shooter
The graphics in this game are beautiful. Wow.
I had to stop watching halfway through, this guy is TERRIBLE at video games.
Cody Morales I know that's what I was gonna say this jus running n gunning
nah I think he just got lazy. He/she made it through the first enemy camp without letting Black Bess get scratched after all. After wards he just went in guns blazing instead of sneaking to the field guns and destroying them.
Love the graphics and the sound
Eh... still just another one-man-army FPS.
Beautiful looking though.
mansku555 you've literally seen one mission, a tank escort mission... but ONE mission none the less.
This is looking true thus far. We've seen Italian Iron Man lone wolf charging down a mountain with a machine gun, we've seen Edwards the Tank Driver fighting waves of Germans.
The only big infantry battle we've seen is the prologue, and you can't even win that one.
this looks absolutely incredible tbh
Where were his mcmanners
after the character opens a box, it no longer looks infront of itself, but redirects its eyes automatically to the opened box
took game devs a long time to do that + the allied AI kills stuff, as it should
Can you play as germams?
Germans
Mattias Jonassen nein
Why not
?
I don't know, they just don't. And just ignore what people are saying, that doesn't automatically mean that the Germans or the Austro-Hungarians or the Ottomans are automatically going to be portrayed as being evil.
Every time the guy in the tank calls out to Edwards for something I get reminded of James Ramirez from MW2 being ordered around doing everything xD
Will we get a campaign where we can play as the French or Germans or is that too hard for dice? Sick of them marketing their games towards an American/British audience, not too mention their hollywoodised version of ww1 with smgs and semi autos everywhere.
Three letters.
DLCs
Germans lost the war. Why would you wanna play as the evil losers?...
Crumbumification the french are not interesting though but I'd like to play as a german.
I got Xbox one yesterday and it came with Battlefield 1 and its so fun
The only things I dont like about BF1 is weapons. Too modern compared to what they really were. And too much automatic weapons. Other than that - brillant.
Wow, the feels when the officer shouts "FIREEE!"
wow there's so much more audio for the enemies now.
0:50 I can't tell if the British soldier saluted right hand palm facing forwards or not.
Playable Pigeon conformed
That was intense as hell. Dice really knocked this one out of the park
lol my last name made it to the game 🙏😂
W
I'm sick of your lip Mcmanus
Your ancestors...
Read a history book, at least one Irishman is invovled in every major war...We're bousies for it now tbf
I wish they brought the fov out abit on these type of videos.
On a console version...60 fov or whatever, yeah sure,
but for youtube video ?
not everyone sits on a couch watching youtube on a TV, so those of us who use a computer screen, this could look much nicer if it wasn't so zoomed in.
looks a little boring to me.
Stephen McAllister Not the right game for you, buddy. Now go buy infinite warfare and blow down some giant space ships, m8.
Chill I'm sure multiplayer will be awesome. Always is
Stephen McAllister i'm sure is gonna be good, from what i played in beta i had a blast.
Gavin Casey awe, someone is all wishy washy cause someone else doesn't think the game is all that.
10/10 best dramatic story
ofcourse american and british always a hero, smh.
cobydrei yes let's judge the whole campaign off one mission. And how are they portrayed as heroes?
There's no American in this video...? Americans weren't involved in WWI.
+MadSupra354 they were at the end of the war smh
MadSupra Really? You should feel ashamed of yourself for not knowing one of the biggest wars in the history.
Well Germany were the bad guys you know
Will there be a campaign piece with the ANZAC beach assault on Gallipoli?
This is Bad
true true
Al Pacino did you just reply to yourself
+Derp Goku Al Pacino is so cool that he could reply to himself.
true true
yolo
DICE is a one trick pony.
CARBINEZzZz how
CARBINEZzZz ya how the have had several great games
Logan L I wouldn't say any of there games are overall great. Just great MP in there games.
CARBINEZzZz But bf doesn't come out every year. Also in battlefield there's a lot of different play styles which keep it more interesting. Also bf has improved it's customization and never use the same animations. So don't know what you're talking about. You would if you actually play a lot of both like me.
