I have always had a hard time accepting the idea that dogs don't have long-term memories. Many dog "experts" say that, but my personal experience says otherwise. I have a 14 year old Korean Jindo, who came to me as a rescue at 1.5 years old. He's had a lot of time to "forget" his experiences as a puppy. But it was clearly evident early on that he did not like men, especially men wearing baseball caps & carrying something like a stick (baseball bat perhaps?). Now this is a dog that loves women & children. But men? Growling & baring his teeth were his standard reactions to men. And he STILL flinches and backs away if anyone except me tries to pet him on his head. He remembers. He remembers being beaten with that "stick" on his head. He remembers that it was a man wearing a cap. What else could possibly explain it? Even after all these years. And, just like your example, he also hates going to the vet. 😂
Sometimes we think they are people and not dogs 😆...
I have 3 med/sm dogs, they all have different traits from mom. They were a pack for 6yrs and Olive (mom) passed 4yrs ago. I have asked them many times if they remember her, very smart dogs but they have never answered me. The avatar is the boy. I didn't intend to keep all of them and even promised them to 2 friends but they were too cute and kept them all.
Sometimes you get attached to them, It is always very hard to let them go 😄
