  • In this video I go through installing a Gerd CTU (Camera Tilting Unit) on a ZWO ASI2600MM-Pro, ZWO EFW (Electronic Filter Wheel), bolted to a William Optics Fluorostar 91 FLT91.
    Now I didn’t have to get a Gerd CTU because the 2600MM has a tilt plate, however, to adjust it you need to remove the camera from the EFW, which disconnects it from the ASIAirPro and exposes the camera sensor cover to dust. It just became too fiddly for me to deal with and the Gerd CTU was my solution.

    Updates since posting the video:
    Despite saying there will be a Part II, I won't be making it. I'm increasingly feeling the tilt is more than likely from the flattner/reducer (from what I am seeing on Cloudy Nights and other forums) and no amount of tweaking and wasted nights have been able to achieve consistant, even stars in the corners. Plus, like it or not, but the BlurXterminator program for Pixinsight gets me acceptable results for those wonky stars and lets me have more roof time.
    Removing the tape. The ZWO EFW will connect to the 2600MM either buy a 1mm thick adaptor, or by removing the camera’s tilt plate and screwing the EFW direct to the camera. Because I originally had it setup with the 1mm adaptor the holes on the EFW had to be taped over so there was no light leak
    Removing the four bolts on the other side of the EFW. The ZWO off-axis guider (OAG) can screw directly to the EFW. I don’t have an OAG so I used the mounting screws to block up the holes. When I put on the m42-m48 stepdown ring from Gerd, the flange of the ring was flexing up and proud of the surface, that is the part I felt was 3mm. Because the stepdown ring meant the Gerd wouldn’t sit flush on the EFW I had to tape up those holes and I'm hopefully back to a 1mm gap.

    I just purchased a 2600MM Pro - this video was very useful for attaching the camera to the EFW - thank you

    As for the screw hole's, What I used were 3mm grub screws, they fit flush.

    great video. would this process be same for attaching 2600mm to zwo 7x2" EFW as well?

      @GlennMartinPhotography  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mostly the same, except it will be a different size adaptor to screw the Gerd CTU to the EFW. The chapter starting at 7:50 has a M42 to M48 adaptor, you will need to clarify with Gerd which is the right one for the 2" EFW

    I owe the same tube and camera and the 2" EFW, and have tilt problems .. what's the problem with the camera tilt adapter?

    • @GlennMartinPhotography
      @GlennMartinPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My problem was it was just a pain to have to disconnect and remove the camera to make an adjustment to the tilt plate. Other people may be more patient but not me lol

    • @JoseLausuch
      @JoseLausuch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GlennMartinPhotography it will be a pain for me too, as I have the camera directly screwed to the efw... 😔

    • @GlennMartinPhotography
      @GlennMartinPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoseLausuch Ah, so if your camera is bolted directly to the EFW the tilt plate has been removed already. That is something I like about the new setup, removing the tilt plate brings the filters that little bit closer to the sensor.

      I did a quick adjustment one night and yes I am happy with it, for me it was worth it compared to the hassle of the ZWO tilt adjuster

    Next time you need to use tape, use Gaffer tape, it will stay, but yet easier to remove.

      Hi, RJ, clear nights have been incredibly few and far between so have been focused on capturing targets than calibrating. Now that the nights are longer HOPEFULLY I get a clear one soon to work on this.

      Hi. Slightly off topic, but don't ZWO want us to bolt the EFW to the tilt plate of the camera with the included screws? That's why there are 4 holes on the camera side of the EFW (the ones you taped over with white tape).
      Granted, it will make adjusting tilt even more of a faff without another tilt adjuster.

    • @GlennMartinPhotography
      @GlennMartinPhotography  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheTabugman yeah you hit the nail on the head why I didn't bolt it to the tilt plate. It would actually be beyond a faff to adjust tilt in the field if that was done. With that said the new BlurXterminator for Pixinsight is now making tilt issues almost a thing of the past. Granted having gear setup correctly would be better, but I have run it on some old data with bad tilt in some corners and it makes it almost a non issue now.
