    I expected the map to be way bigger ever since the teaser images. I was a bit underwhelmed, but it’s not a bad map.

      I had the same experience with this map. Even thought it's the map ive played the most in bo6 i still can't help to feel like the map has a lot of wasted potential.

      Same! Even if you could repeatedly go into/ keep open the special rooms you go into for the light sword or the maya cutscene it’d feel better, but your right it feels like too little.

    This map really shows that they need to expand their color palette. Looking at the same tones with very little variations gets boring really quickly. Also really wish the swords had a 2nd upgrade, for me they feel unrewarding to get. Especially the dragon and lion sword. Obviously there is more to it, but for me, its a Strong 7.

    My issue with the map really is that it doesn’t really feel like a castle. The first teaser made me think that the map would’ve been more in the back top area, kinda like DE. But I’m gonna be honest, the swords and boss fight make this map a 9/10 for me. And the Easter egg song is AMAZING

    I like CDM very much, but I wish we got to explore more of the castle. For example I would've loved to be able to go up to the top of those towers and see most of the map from up there. On a related note the location of the PAP machine feels oddly random to me, as if it were an afterthought. It would've been cool if the PAP machine was in the king's throne room or something, in place of the throne itself. I just like when the PAP machine gets its own dedicated location or at least is placed in a spot that makes it feel more important and special, like Kino's projector room or at the top of the staircase in Shangri-La. Lastly I think the undetonated bomb in the courtyard could've been incorporated into the EE, for example maybe you could've used it to finish off the boss or something.

    My biggest issue with CDM and bo6 as a whole is just that once you’ve played the EE the gameplay loop gets super repetitive. And I like zombies so if I’m saying it’s repetitive then it’s really repetitive

      It’s because maps don’t have unique mechanics and features anymore. It’s just a new location, wonder weapon and quest and that’s it. Tranzit and mob of the dead were on the same game yet functioned like they were 2 completely separate games in terms of mechanics, features, weapons, perks etc we can’t even get unique enemy types anymore

      Hot take but I truly believe 4 elemental weapons really makes the loop repetitive. Take DE and Origins for example. After obtaining the staffs/bows for the 30th time there’s nothing to do. There quest to obtain the staffs/bows alone give the maps more depth considering how easy it is in CDM. After obtaining the weapons and getting set up it’s very repetitive. Unless you have a specific task like high rounds, Easter egg, or a challenge there’s no real incentive to keep playing.

    I just ran a 4 person match with randoms and honestly once we got the swords made, we were unstoppable. We exfilled at 50 ish due to bordem. The swords are exactly where they need to be. The incantations are amazing and make elite enemies a non-issue… terminus is a MUCH HARDER map.

    It’d be cool if for each sword the final step to upgrade it was for the player to interact with the statue again, where the player would then be teleported to a unique area where the ghost of each knight would challenge you to prove yourself worthy of carrying their name. From there, you’d just kill a bunch of zombies like the gauntlet upgrades in Ancient Evil. Upon completion, the knight ghost would give you his blessing, and the player can pick up the upgraded sword from the knight statue. No added complexity, just storytelling.

      kinda fucks the storytelling, the owl said that they were not worthy, and then when we meet him in the secret room, he says that he knew ONLY the Dragon Knight would be able to find him, amplifying he’s the only worthy (which he wasn’t, we (the players) found the owl)

    I genuinely expected a greater scale of the map both in terms of size and depth of what you can do. teaser alluding to the map containing the village and castle made me think it'd be bigger but its kinda small. After a couple of days, waiting for someone to release a guide on how to complete the ee, I was shocked to find out that basically all of the steps me and a couple of randoms had done. We literally did everything up until the actually gaining the mystic orb. Sword and incantation acquisition really is the bulk of the ee.
    The swords themselves are fun but felt lacking without the attack speed MM augment and the fact you could only kill one zombie at a time (2 still feels lacking like you said). The spectacle of the incantations are absent and just feels like any other moment of gameplay. Lightning and fire incantations are great, light is okay, and the shadow one is trash. The inclusion of the amalgamations, parasites, and vermin too, to me, felt lazy and uninteresting.

    To me Citadel feels like a good map but with a lot of missed potential. Considering how the main appeal of the map from the teasers was the ginormous castle it feels very anticlimactic when you realize that you can’t explore most of it. The dopplegasts while interesting don’t at all feel like they belong in the map they are in and should’ve showed up in something like Terminus, doesn’t help that the Amalgyms also show up here. And while the swords are cool on their own, the quests to get them feel very underwhelming and barebones, they just feel too simple and easy, like how the pack a punch quest is, doesn’t really feel like I’m earning these all powerful mystical swords. Overall I like the map and what it has to offer but whenever I play it I can’t shake the feeling that there should be more here and what we got is only a piece of a bigger whole

      I really don't like how they're trying to bring Vanguard zombie elements into CDM & in Tomb, I really preferred the sci fi approach that cold war did & they did with Terminus and liberty falls.
      The maps just don't look good to me besides Terminus and liberty falls.

    I think the simplest answer to satisfying everyone, is to just have a custom mode that doesn’t apply to leaderboards or it has its own categories of leaderboards depending on what settings you choose. The game is online, all the time, so it wouldn’t be too far fetched for people wanting to easily categorize their playthroughs.
    And by custom mode, I mean something similar to bo2. You had the choice to turn off “magic”, start on rnd 20, and even turn off special (dog) rounds. Made it fun to try and start on round 20 and immediately pap the 1911 on Town.
    Treyarch (and activision) are smart though. If a custom mode were to ever come out. It would be near then end of this game’s lifecycle. A mode like this would increase the longevity of this game indefinitely or until the servers shut down.

    Citadelle in my opinion is definitely the best map so far and atleast A tier, its just that replayability factor. Also the map is definitely small but overall the map is still really good(and the music goes hard I love the round changing music)

    I felt like the map was small, and i was disappointed because i expected a large-scale map like terminus. With the fast mechanics of Bo6, these maps dont work. This would have worked much better in older cods like bo2 or bo3. A minor complaint with this is that the path to the castle is short. I feel like the aura it lacks is how easy you make it inside the castle... i can't explain it, but i guess its a minor nitpick layout issue
    Another issue I have is that the map doesn't aesthetically please me. Im a sucker for medieval castles (pun intended), and the map's colour scheme just doesn't look that good... i can't explain it, but it just lacks the feeling of being in a castle.

    The codww2 influence is crazy, everybody shits on that game but all of the future zombies titles took shit that ww2 zombies did, you can just see with how grotesque and dark everything is, this feels like a map straight out of ww2 zombies.

    My issues align with yours for the most part. I feel like the swords should've been overpowered. They require you to get up close and personal with zombies in order to get the kills required to charge it. That's annoying in a game like BO6 where there's amalgams and doppelgeists. But I think what really killed my hype was the first day. I swore over and over that there was an upgrade to the swords because obtaining them was WAY TOO EASY. To find out there wasn't, and that the incantations were what they were, left me feeling kind of defeated. I just never understood the idea of making melee wonder weapons feel so under powered. Incantations... I really thought something as cool as incantations should've been similar to the bug from origins where the iron fist can becomes elemental fists. Like it would've been nice to apply the incantations onto your melee weapon, even though the swords would've defeated that purpose. Then they should've made the swords upgradable. I feel like not enough of the castle is utilized, but that's a minor critique coming from my comparison to DE. I do feel like Maya is shoehorned a bit too much to the front in BO6. I feel like Grey and Carver deserve more time to shine. Ultimately, yeah. This map had everyone as excited as ever to play it, and while im glad some people have been quite fond of it, I still can't see it. I think I'm done putting Treyarch on this pedestal for the past several years. I truly thought 4 years of dev time would bring more innovation but I was too hopeful. I'll probably just watch The Tomb gameplay to see if its fun

    imo, everything about this map is perfect gameplay wise, which is why for me this is one of my favorite maps of all time next to most of the chaos bo4 maps. The swords are simple to get and so are the incantations, but the reason why they are so satisfying to collect to me is because you can seemingly get all of the swords and incantations at the same time. The only thing limiting you is the requirement of stamps which also only start to appear at round 10. The swords are also some of the most fun wonder weapons I have used in a while, just something about melee weapons in zombies that are elemental is just so fun to me, especially when each sword has its own different properties besides just their fully charged attacks. Even everything after getting the swords to me is just super fun to do and overall one of my favorite easter eggs ive ever played.
    Call me crazy, but this map is my 2nd favorite map of all time. Every time I come back to it I just have a blast with it.

    I’m okay with skin deep beauty tbh. Most people don’t actually do the Easter eggs anyways. Theres plenty of atmosphere and unique things to check out in the map so I think it is very solid for a casual veteran player.

    I think Citadelle is honestly a really amazing map, but I agree that the swords would be better if players could upgrade them further. Another drawback of CDM is the size, as 40-60% more playable area would be pretty sweet. I think most people expected it to be larger, as castles are usually pretty massive. I actually tend to like a more straightforward quest structure, with less cryptic puzzles and math equations, as it allows more casual players to contribute to quest progression, rather than a single skilled player being burdened with completing every step of the story. It's nearly impossible to jump into a public match and complete the quest on a map like Zetsubou No Shima, and it's entirely realistic to finish the boss fight with randoms on Citadelle Des Morts. Great video though, I love your content!

    It was better than I expected. The swords are great if you are skilled and utilize melee macchiato. Also the traps are extremely useful to take care of amalgamations and encourage you to camp which I feel like is a play style modern zombies doesn’t really cater to much

    I know a guy who's a bo3 veteran. He gave this map a solid 8-9/10 and says it feels unique. I personally haven't played bo3 so idk how it compares. But judging by his experience and skill level, which is solid enough to reach rnd 55 health cap simply by trainning&shooting w/o doing any fancy/cheesy strats, I was under the impression that Citadelle is well-received by the community

    Your point on trying to reason why the Swords are in the spot they are in makes no sense to me cause it can easily be disproven by a singular wonder weapon we have that is basically the Swords but a better version. The Crystal Axe from Cold War. When Treyarch mentioned a melee focused wonder weapon, I was hoping for a resemblance of the powerful Crystal Axe because that wonder weapon on its own was also available at any moment, also had the same swing speed as Melee Machiauto, and had a alternate mode that was complimented the alternate melee mode when you threw the axe in a horde of zombies. It baffles me that people forget and don’t mention it because BO6 is literally Cold War, just has the better aspects of Cold War. Treyarch should’ve have used the Crystal Axe as a guide on how to shape the Swords in CDM and it’s embarrassing no one has mentioned it.

    Only thing I didn’t like is the swords only killing one zombie at a time. Meanwhile on Cold War when you had a sword weapon you could take out multiple zombies.

    It’s a B tier map imo. It brings newness to bo6 with the atmosphere and new elite zombie, but lacks depth. I feel like they could’ve done much more with the castle interior. Also, I wish there was a medieval style boss or zombies, maybe little jester zombies, or ghosts. They could’ve done so much more

    Think the biggest disappointment was how weak the wonder weapons were. Genuinely INSANE they didn't all have cleave by default. The map also looked like it would've been a lot bigger. Unlucky.

    My only issue with it is the mood.
    Zombies launched with Liberty Falls and Terminus. Liberty Falls' mood is intentionally lighter, both literally and tonally. It's bright, the enemies are simple, the boss zombie is slow, the easter eggs are all goofy and easy to do, main quest isn't difficult and the game pretty much tells you every step outright.
    Terminus was darker, the enemies faster, the boss zombie quick and brutal, you were more likely to see those new graphic deaths, the easter egg much more complex and difficult, and ultimately launch BO6Z felt like the devs wanted to go darker but brought in Liberty Falls to ease new players into things.
    With that, and given the very harsh (and warrented imo) criticisms towards LF's mood, I was hoping that DLC 1 would double down on Terminus' difficulty and mood while LF would remain the easy map. Instead we got something in the middle in both regards, with Citadelle being easier and lighter than Terminus but more complex and dark than Liberty Falls. Gameplay wise? I feel it hit a really good balance. It's a fun map, the main quest isn't hard to do.
    Mood wise? It's broad daylight and the moment you spawn in front of a giant World of Warcraft statue you know you are going to be doing goofy stuff to kill that thing as a boss, and by the end of the Main Quest you have a sword and fired yourself out of a cannon and talked to a ghost and are now bringing a lava spewing knight statue to life. It's very Ancient Evil in that regard where it doesn't really feel scary or even "spooky" like BO4 in general, but somehow even lighter into Indiana-Jones or early comic-book territory. Honestly if the map was literally darker, bloodier, and the final boss wasn't something I'd expect to fight in Diablo 3 then it would be one of my favorite maps of all time, but as is it leaves me wanting for something a bit more gruesome.
    Story wise, eh, I don't have any hopes for it but I can't judge the map for it as much as BO6 overall. Maya sucks, imma just say it, she is a generic smuggler badass archetype that we have seen a dozen times and while she would be a fine member of a crew, we don't have a crew, we have Maya and the 3 characters who bring her along. The story here isn't any worse than what we have had since CW. I can't bring myself to say this map in particular is worse than a dozen other maps when objectively the story was almost always a background thing until recently if it was present at all. Do I think Nacht is a bad map for having zero story? That's the litmus I gotta use here.
    Gameplay and visual design are what you will be experiencing with 99% of any map, relegating that experience to like 1/4 this video seems a bit backwards. Yes, story is important. Yes, some people play these maps JUST for the story. No, that isn't what Zombies has ever been primarily about, and every time a map focuses more on story than gameplay, it is boring. See: Outbreak, Vanguard

    IMO this is easily the best map since ancient evil, the story aspects may be a bit lacking but the environment, Easter egg, and general gameplay are all great

      I think the main quest has great aspects to it no doubt but its just upgrading the swords and then really its over quickly. I wish there was more depth to it.
      But I think it’s heading in the right direction.

    The map itself is great. Swords are fine. They dont need to be OP, but a touch more power wouldnt be bad. Incantations wreck the Guardian when you hit a crit. And they do work for me when im just playing the map and going for rounds. CDM is perfectly fine. The issue to me that caused the quick downfall, which is hopefully finally resolved in the Tomb, is story and lore. The story and narrative have been very sparse feeling. Moat people arent going to hunt for audio logs and the like. So they are missing out. Those aside, we used to get at least a richer story explanation of where we were, why we were there, and teasers for the next arc in the story for a new map. The unfleshed out crew is also hurting this. But CDM itself is fine. Another great video Afterlife!

    I just don't like how the castle looks like crap. Like, I thought from the campaign that the French Syndicate were supposed to be this really flashy Mafia family wearing fancy suits and driving sports cars. Franco certainly lives up to the image. But then the castle looks we see looks like an absolute dump. Despite the blog saying it's got a long and colorful history it looks like it was abandoned for centuries and the only people living there now are a bunch of tweakers running a meth lab. Compare it to Der Eisendrache and it's this incredibly lavish and colorful castle with both ancient artifacts and 1940's scifi tech, it may have been a secret Nazi base but they wanted to preserve the castle. I just don't believe that Franco would want to live in a place like this.

    the maps have a AAA veneer but a custom maps worth of depth and its clear its for one simple reason: devs are given no time,
    everything new and unique is also shallow and lacking believability

    As with the other maps released so far, my problem with CDM was its lack of any depth. I do have to wonder if its the core game systems holding BO6 back at this point. Theres plenty of side easter eggs to do but none of the rewards are anything to write home about. We're not getting stuff rewards like the Gauntlet of Siegfried, Skull of Nan Sapwe or Hells Retriever anymore. We're getting free perks, ammo types, or weapon upgrades. They incredibly generic and easy to obtain via normal gameplay

      The first boss fight ever was actually done by Sledgehammer in AW zombies in the final dlc map. Boss fight against Oz or whatever his name is.
      It’s partially true that the Shadowman is a boss but it’s more like a… final encounter puzzle.
      It’s more widely considered that DE is the first actual BOSS boss, if that makes sense.
      But we can debate definitions if you’d like! I think either way the point would stand that DE leveled up the fight substantially compared to Shadows!

    Idk i love to play this map. Its a complete change to the gameplay compared to the other 2 maps because meele maciato is a must have in order to use the wonder weapons. Every time i play this map i just use the swords.

    I like this map but the fact at launch you could fight the boss with idle eyes gobblegum and he wouldn’t attack shows how little quality testing they do now.
    Also get free critical kills for current weapon by using the oil trap with Molotov all kills with trap count as crits

    could have mentioned the voice actor and ai usage controversy. Finding out just how far activision is willing to go to cut corners at the expense of thier product killed alot of enjoyment in this map for quite a few people, and set a precendent for future maps.

    People hailing this map as an S tier map are a little off the mark, don't get me wrong it's one of the best maps we've gotten since Bo4, great art direction, solid easter egg/boss fight, but the 4 elemental swords are a bit underwhelming and feel slightly underpowered even after the recent buff, the map doesn't have a great flow, it's plagued by the repetitive bo6 gameplay loop, I'd say its a high B or A tier, still doesn't quite touch maps like Origins, DE, or Ancient Evil imo.

    I'd rather play Der Eisendrache or Origins, Cintadelle was just a worse version of those maps. Plus the easter egg ending made me loose my shit, I laughed hysterically for several minutes over how awful it was lol

    Ancient evil is a better map by far but the upgrade steps for the gauntlets are nothing special. You have to prove yourself worthy but you really don’t because of how easy it is. I’ll give props to citadel for at least putting more effort into their quest for getting the swords. Love Ancient Evil but the gauntlet quest’s are very basic up until the final step where you have to take on boss enemies one on one

    Good video. Agree with the map doesn’t have enough depth and sword quests and PAP quests are way too short. But disagree with the bo6 gameplay loop/mechanics being good, I do not like the modern gameplay mechanics, which is the biggest issue with replayability for me. I much prefer/miss the classic mechanics of spawning with a pistol shuffling guns the old point system and not having salvage rarities armor scorestreaks the hud etc. I much prefer/miss the early rounds being the most difficult part of the game and doing long quests to earning the ability to survive… I do not enjoy the modern very linear setup process as it presents little challenge with a high hit system and open maps, very short lame quests, little gun variety, every game feeling the same, and a constant point deficit. This is what hinders the replayability the most for me and why bo3 mechanics work so well with customs and chronicles but bo6 mechanics I don’t think would. But good video about Citadel.

      The franchise was just beginning. But the addition of nova crawlers, fire and machine gun traps, the thunder gun and tons of new Samantha lore seems like a pretty big jump to me - especially for the time period.
      Then as more money came along the jumps became greater.
      But you're free to disagree. It's not a big deal.

    In my opinion, older zombies earlier rounds being harder is better. It’s not satisfying to get through so many easy rounds just for difficulty spike. Feels sort of like a waste.
    Also I think the skybox could’ve been better and the map should’ve been more castle, less open space and maybe scarier.
    I think WW2 zombies launch map was actually a better way to have a town -> bunker/castle map

    I do like the map it is good the boss fight is great but it is lacking compared to maps from bo3 and bo4. The egg is fun and good but to easy and just cant live up to maps like ancient evil ,origins , dead of the night and so many more

    I feel it isnt a bad map but feels like it should have been a base map if that makes sense? It fealt too restrained tone wise for a dlc map. Probably didnt help that they kept hyping up the magic horror and arthurian legend stuff. That being said i think the maps are definitely more unique than cold war and have more personality

    Have put a week or so of game time in zombies in so far, don’t like Salvage system or score streaks take those out and I think the game would be so much better

    I had fun when the map first released but I have no draw to play it The swords are super underwhelming high rounds is pretty hard on it but you can't even use the wonder weapon so what's the point

      Ngl but the void sword is actually great and very viable for high rounds especially after the buffs. If you go into the cellar in spawn and use the void sword + decoys, the rounds will go by fast. The portal kills so many zombies and you can throw down a decoy to quickly replenish your charge again (which after the buffs it only takes 25 kills to recharge the void sword and the swords can now kill 2 zombies per swipe).
      The rest of the swords are a bit underwhelming, although with proper augments the light sword can basically make you invincible, but it’s a boring strat imo.
