Found something people might find useful for making their SAT/MASK. Instead of screenshotting and/or clipping and then blowing it up in photoshop there's a *much* cleaner method. I am new to map making, so if this is already known I apologize, but I'm a bit OCD when it comes to photoshop work and I didn't want to deal with the fuzzed edges of a blown up image. Steps: 1.While you have your TerrainBuilder open go to "File -> Export -> EMF", name doesn't matter but Image Size DOES! Set it to your map's native res(512, 1024, etc). 2. Go to (www.aconvert.com/image) and choose your newly exported EMF and convert it to a BMP. (2b. If your photo editor can open EMF files, you don't need aconvert.) 3. Viola, high resolution 1:1 copy of your TB's "heightmap" view. 4. Open in your photo editor of choice and get some nice, clean cuts.

Oi! Im stuck with layers.cfg. I copied everything and followed the process from your videos. When i (video 8:12) choose layers.cfg and "rebuild terrain" i got errors like: p:\DZ\surfaces\data\terrain\cp_rock.rvmat .... source file cannot be opened 1. i dont understand why it says path like p:\DZ\surfaces\data\terrain\cp_rock.rvmat because only folder what i have in P: is my map folder called "Square" (my mapname :) ) and there is source & data folders etc..

one thing i really find funny and also suprising is that theres so many custom maps made for dayz sa but so many servers only host chernarous etc. namalsk is the only of the comunity made maps that are remaining popular.

So I just got into Dayz Modding and im trying to add buildings to my Utes sample map but when I click rebuild terrain and recreate the PBO files I dont see the buildings showing up in game. I assume I need to export something else? Im sure your next tutorial will cover this but im kinda stuck so far.

just wondering if this is the only set of software you can use to create/edit maps for dayZ sa? im also interested in converting maps from other games into dayz. if you have an idea for that aswell please contact me. good work and explenation !
So I'm in bulldozer and there is water but no land...I don't know which area of the map it is showing me but it shows a stretch of water like a river and then expands into like a sea. Either side of the water is sky?
When I move around in bulldozer the camera moves with terrain so goes up hills, but I can't see them? almost like the texture for the ground is missing?
i can't get into buldozer , i get a compile error 'can't compile Game script module scripts/3_Game/humanitems.h(5):Multiple declaration of class HumanitemBehaviorCfg
It worked well here, however only the map textures do not appear right. The map texture turns white (making it difficult to see) and only when you have the camera nearby does it become the default dayz grass.
@@MatthewLongtime Thanks for the answer, but I put the folders anyway at the root of my DayZ (the main folder, the layers folder, just the files directly), but none solved the texture problem.
Hey. I am doing the same thing as you today. Make new picture, its size in pixels depends on your own map and for the colors use CMYK version of the RGB colors.
that is allways has a 0 on it is just in ur case. Its not every time xD. With a grid size of 1024 with a cell size 4m the terrain size wouled be 4096.... nt fan

are you sure that you made cfg file, not txt document. little bit late to answer
im having a problem when generating the layers. after the first 2 steps a CMD pops up saying it couldn't load M_* and S_*

Could be a mask issue something wrong in layers.cfg I'd also delete the old layers manually

my mask is correct colour, matches what's in the config file.
Does the mask bmp file size need to match the map size? I noticed it only takes up a corner of the map in the layers

Generate layers then copy your map files the folder to ur dayz root
