2 months before my dad past away he made an usb for me with this song and we talked about the beauty to be sailed away when he was gone. It's nearly 3 months ago now, and his ash is going to spread in the Danish ocean Kattegat ❤️ and i will think on this amazing song the day we are saying, see you again dad ❤️
Sailing was Played at my Fathers funeral. A wartime RNVR officer who was tremendously proud that two of his sons have both served in the Royal Marines around the World - the best years of my life.
This is a story of an old ship, and the young men who sail in her. Their life together is recorded frankly, during a voyage which will start on the morning tide and which will take them to ports and across seas which navies have known since the days of Raleigh...
We used to play this when we deployed from Sydney on the fighting 38. Always sad to wave goodbye to family but most of us couldn't wait to get back to sea.
Originally recorded by the Sutherland brothers, a small hit for them in 1971/2, Rod Stewart covered it and made it an international hit in 1975 and it's had naval/military association ever since - timeless song/piece of music
Well let’s be honest, sailing is more appropriate to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. It was also in New York Harbour in which Rod filmed, wearing a US Navy hat.

Proud to have served in the Royal Marines Band Service..

Rip Philip lord high admiral of the Royal Navy.
The Band of the Royal Marines Is capable to give an "Imperial" tone also when playing light music.

Love everything that the RM Band play.

Love this song. Brings back lovely memories of my late brother who was in the royal navy at the time. Taken far too early
Rest in Peace = Brother in Arms. Keep the memories alive Gail, live in strength.
I Remember the TV series many many years ago
I was in it, for about 3 seconds, was filmed whilst we were on a trip to America.
The series is on TH-cam if you want to reminisce
@@paulhill1665 My uncle MEM C.P.O. Mike (Jan) Tarrant was on for a similar length of time during the concert 👍🏼
@@adetarrant9806 May well have known him as I worked in the engine spaces, as a CEM, not a stocker, Y unit was the worse one for me
