    In this week's video, I built a modern blanket chest or, what we're going to be using it for, a toy box. The piece is constructed from solid Red Oak and Poplar but was built using approachable techniques, no table saw required! Hope y'all enjoy this one.

    You made red oak look so modern. A great example of how doing the simple things correctly can turn out looking so fresh and finished. Great vid Johnny.

    Best way I've seen in a long time to include a sponsor in a video. Non intrusive and didn't feel like it took away from the video. Well done.

    For those without all these tools, taking a cut list to Lowe's and having them cut some 3/4" birch plywood is a viable alternative. The rest can be cut with a hand saw at home.

    i appreciate that you are wearing a Finnegan shirt at some point. Also, thank you for doing a variety of projects like this that can be accomplished with limited tools, and describing how you can use tools without certain features (like a router with an edge guide versus a router table). I'm sure your son will have that toy chest filled up in no time!

    Great project and top notch video (of course!). I wanted to watch it during the premiere but was making breakfast for the family. Oh well! I agree that rabbit joinery works really well - it moves the alignment work earlier in the project and makes the glue up very easy. I could also see ebonizing the base as an alternative to painting. Thanks for the build!

    I love this piece. Nicely done. Red oak is dense enough and very stable; I like using it, but agree, the look is... "meh". Also, I can't wait for the day the whole "pre-" trend ends. We're not pre-drilling. We're drilling pilot holes. We should all stop pre-doing-all-the-stuff-we're-not-really-pre-doing.

    • @droy333
      @droy333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not a free video. It's a pointless notification and that's where the animosity comes from. We are told throughout youtube to click the bell so we get notified of new uploads. Then we get notified of a video that may happen anywhere between 15 mins and 3 days.

      in 2 minutes its a free video............

    • @SuicideNeil
      @SuicideNeil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@danielkirkhart It's not the video they are upset about, it's the stupid Premiere feature- we don't need a subs box filled with notifications for videos we can't watch for hours or days, that's what subscriptions are for- they notify us when the video is uploaded and ready to watch. I think the point people make about the premiere feature has gone way over your head.

    • @danielkirkhart
      @danielkirkhart 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuicideNeil I appreciate the explanation - but it hasn't gone over my head. I too get too many notifications... but understand its all part of the TH-cam game the creators have to play.
      This is a content site that only costs you your time which is ultimately yours to spend how you want.... to complain because someone notified you have an opportunity to watch a video at a future time, while that creator will watch along with you, answer questions and have a good time becomes something to complain about is the ultimate example of #firstworldproblems

    • @SuicideNeil
      @SuicideNeil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@danielkirkhart Okay, let's put it another way- youtube is an 'on-demand' service; if we have to wait days or hours to watch a video that we'll forget about until after it's uploaded anyway, it kinda defeats the object, doesn't it. I dunno about you, but I'm not going to sit here waiting for 3 hours to watch a video, I'll watch it when it hits my subs box, or when I get the chance to sit down and go through my subs later ( typically the latter ). The fact there has been a rather large backlash against the premiere feature speaks volumes- it may well be a first world problem, but doesn't mean we have to like it; hence all the dislikes.
