One important factor that makes this game so great; the graphics represent the classic TMNT series so well it makes you feel like it's an episode of show!

Is it just me, or does that Pirate Ship level backdrop look AMAZING?! The parallax scrolling, the time of day...it looks really good. THIS GAME looks really good! Easily one of the best looking games on the SNES...
Never got sick of this game, could play it any time. I feel like you glossed over how satisfying the combat / hit detection / sound effects in this game are. That is what truly gives it such a high level of replayability, how satisfying beating up foot soldiers and chucking them into the screen is.

I actually think the SNES version is better than the Arcade port! You get more bosses, more levels, different options like swapping out the "animated" palette for the "comic" palette, the versus mode, etc etc.
Agreed! Definitely better than the arcade port! There are things I like about Hyperstone Heist more, but I don't view those as a vs situation. It's more of a Turtles in Time remix. I Play both!
I preferred TMNT Manathan project. In turtles in time, you have 4 characters, but they're basically the same char. TMNT MP actually gave different attacks to each tuttles, and some were better against certain bosses than others. They're both fun games. But to me Manathan project was the better one.
Great teenage early 90s memories of this game. I have a copy still on my snes and have played the arcade version on MAME. It's amazing because while still being the same beat as the arcade, the music is actually much better sounding in the snes version :)

What a fantastic game that was and still is! I’ve always played as Leonardo since he was the only character who had this awesome kick to the chin when being approached from behind. Every turtle had a distinct move when an enemy snuck up on em, but Leo‘s kick was by far the best one. I received this game for Christmas way back in 1992. I couldn't put it down. I was able to beat it on hard with ease. I challenged myself to see how many foot soldiers I could throw towards the screen to improve my high score.
I published a review of the Re-Shelled version and listed some of the disappointing differences between that version and the SNES version. For some reason, people on the site kept down voting my review, and one guy insisted that Slash wasn't a boss in the SNES version.

I played a lot of Ninja Turtles games as a kid. I found the SNES port of Turtles in Time to be more accessible than the TMNT 1989 arcade (Not that that game wasn't fun, because it was. I just found the bosses fiendishly difficult, like Rocksteady in the first stage with his machine gun.).
MoltoRubato88 I remember playing that in the arcade with my brother with 2 other people with us and beating it fun times lol
I completed this game so many times!
Haa!
Saw a 1up cabinet of this on display at Walmart one day and i stood there and played the whole game in one go.

Shredders Revenge is so good. I would say it's this games true successor
