    Our team of trackers is moving into an open field. While grass is a great medium for tracking, this leaves them exposed. They know the time is not on their side, but security remains the top priority. Boris forms his team into a Y-formation which was developed by the Rhodesian Tracker Unit (TCU) and used to great effect during the Bush Wars in the 1970s.

    Nice work Boris. It's a good time for a short pause before committing. I have seen VT's make the mistake of pushing on without "tuning in," to their new environment first. The consequences can lead to a very bad day at the office. A pause allows the tracking team commander to make various tactical assessments in; terrain analysis, threat exposure and mitigation, update HQ with a SITREP, request for additional Spt. assets (Overwatch, Close-Air/ Indirect Fire Support), do a quick welfare check, make kit adjustments, disseminate new intelligence between the team, shake out into the inverted Y formation etc... Importantly, a pause allows trackers to tune in (pace track if necessary), and cement the key sign characteristics for that new environment faster. Without losing track momentum. Track on and happy hunting mate.

    • @borisvos1971
      @borisvos1971 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100%. Pace -to-pace is definitely the way to go when you go into a different substrate, even if the sign is very visible. It's so easy to overshoot if you don't give yourself time to remind yourself of the key sign for that environment. Learned that the hard way :) Great comment mate!

    my guess (or what I would do)......if possible, take a picture of how their gear is laid out. Search around the gear without touching it to make sure it isnt trapped in any way, then search it. while searching it, remove firing pins from guns, and sabotage any electronics, specially if they are attached to explosives. Copy any intel in the bags, then put everything back the way it was according to the pictures you took. Since you have a 4 man squad, set an ambush for when they return. Unless ordered to just let them go to see what they are up to, or to see if the have any accomplices already in the town. Just my opinion

    • @kasperk679
      @kasperk679 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is way to complicated. Just laying an ambush before they can reach the gear is way easier and as effective.

    • @DIABULUSKIRA
      @DIABULUSKIRA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ambush and everything sounds good. But what if they are carring sone explosive they have made in cave and they finish their mission (probably sabotage something od kill someone) and you have failed to find them and save someone or something. I would probably leave gear there, maybe hide it better, took some civilian backpack with explosive and carry only pistol with me for self protection if someone comes after me. Destroy what i am supposed to and return back for gear and continue to extraction point. Just my thoughts 😁

    • @borisvos1971
      @borisvos1971 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Daiman. I have the same thing. It's so easy to overshoot into a new substrate and don't allow yourself to tune-in, especially when you're pushing. I try to stop myself briefly, even if the sign seems clear, and remind myself of the key-sign for the substrate I'm about to go in. Pace-to-pace is a great way of doing that. And it's nice when it clicks again, and the track opens up. It takes a lot of honesty to do it, especially with a team behind you wanting to press on and high stakes. Great comment mate!

      I remember that course. Eliminating openings is a key under canopy. Depth of tread and the angle of foot placement to compensate for packs and equipment coupled with an increase in top sign. Distances travelled and rest stops to determine the fitness of the quarry, age of sign and most inportantly to look up and out when moving forward like a lead scout. This is a brilliant video and Boris knows his shit. Its the best video that i have seen on TH-cam. Minganui, a place thats wet, cold and dark lol

  • @lava3218
    @lava3218 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mean to me it makes perfect sense why they would leave their rifle behind. When you're going into an urban area you carry a concealed handgun otherwise people freak out. Even here in America, where guns are embedded in our culture, you cannot open carry. Sure in most States it's completely legal to open carry, but legal doesn't mean that everyone knows it's legal. People freak out and call 911 and even though the police can't do anything about it they're still required to at least come out and talk to you and explain "Hey you know it freaks people out even though you're completely within your rights to do so.". For a civilian this is a minor inconvenience every now and then, for someone conducting an operation of some kind this could break their entire mission, regardless of if it's good or bad, their cover could be blown. So the best thing to do is ditch the rifle before entering the urban area unless you have an extremely good reason to keep it with you like the fact that you might be entering a hostile environment where rebels have taken over the city. Same with the tactical gear wearing a military uniform in an urban area makes you stick out like a gunshot among fireworks to a country boy, sure if you're active military and you're off duty you can get away with this, but a group of 2 or 3 people walking that way together armed is a bit of an indicator.

    Basically what we have here is a couple of squaddies bunking off manoeuvers to sink a few pints in a nearby village. What happens next is a couple of red caps wait for them to return pissed and make their lives a misery. Case closed.

    Approaching a populated, leaving gear and weapons behind, possibly dressing as civilians. The quarries may be locals to the area and used an alternative route to exit the suburban area into a wooded side road, helps to form an alibi, if you ask around, the neighbors will probably tell you that they haven't been seen going out of the community.
    this is probably a very unlikely and very stupid theory, bu that's what I gathered

    How does the position thing works? The eight numbers stand for??

  • @odendalstreicher6074

    The two at the front. I dont understand. Are they front security. Do they have to track look out or if you are lead tracker do they have to look back at you to see where does the track go because youre the lead. And if you need to hold position how do you let them know. You cant scream. Do you move until the next forest and wat happen if you lose the track and how do they know where to go if they have to stay with you in y position. Like if they go left but you see the track go right. Do they look back and front???

      The "flankers" as they are called are primarily covering the front. They are also trackers so if they see the track veering off they indicate to the tracker and the team quickly adjusts. That flanker then becomes the tracker, the tracker becomes a flanker and we press on. Every few steps they make eye contact with the tracker to exchange hand signals if needed or adjust their position.

    I notice that you appear to normally wear only 3 spare magazines.
    All the training I have received primarily suggests a minimum of 6 on person and one in rifle.
    Veterans that are seeking engagement recommend 8 on person and up to full reload if you can carry it. The round count from a Vietnam Vet was 420 or 15, 30 round mags, 28 rounds each.
    Curious to hear about why you setup your plate carrier the way you do and the philosophy.

      I am from Serbia. In our military we have one mag in rifle and 4 spare mags. As i have seen some special forces have 3 in combat west and 1 in rifle. For pistol we carry 1 in it and at least 1 spare mag. I guess these guys have similar organizations.

      @Lone Survivalist True that...but remember a pistols impact is very limited. I'd disable their long guns and lay'n waiting for an ambush...😎

    • @RaptorTroll360
      @RaptorTroll360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best part is they'd expect the rifles to work and the surprise of them not working might make them hesitate, fumble and not transition to handgun as fast, although that's what I've learned from Lucas Botkin that if boomstick doesn't go boom, you go to pistol ASAP and after immediate threat is neutralized you check your rifle for malfunction.
      Thing is, removed firing pin is quite the exotic malfunction and thus even the most trained of professionals would find themselves quite confused with the *shituation*...

      @DIABULUSKIRA 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bandogmerch And while you are waiting in ambush they have destroyed whatever was their target and maybe went other way. I know that they are probably going back for rifles and other gear, but you failed if they finish their mission successfully and probably killed some high ranking official.

    How did they recreate radio comms to this degree? Was it all modified through software and programs or actual radios.

    • @thirdoptioncreative
      @thirdoptioncreative 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On Boris' side (D20 and 0) the comms are recorded with actual radios using an external mic while the Tusker 01 comms were filmed using a gaming headset microphone and then modulated in post with an FTT filter.

    Time for the hunted to do a j hook.

    • @secretsquirrel6308
      @secretsquirrel6308 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I first learned that as a kid when spear fishing. Later, hunting game on land, the same comes in handy. Not only does it clear your six but may confuse your prey. Much better than zig zag because base line is usually obvious in zig zag. And better than stop and observe because stop is static. Plus, I would only stop once concealed, never in the open whereas J has no such limitations. I figure the quarry in this video are amateurs/kids.
      (J hook once saved me from a very probable mauling by a big cat which had been following me. Another time, in the snow above the tree line, a brown bear which had begun following us turned off when she came to where we had changed course.)
