Thank you so much for this video!!! I am gonna attempt to fix my Shark vacumn hose & I wasn't sure how to get hose out of end piece...thanx 2 your video, I know now!!! appreciate you!!! :)
Well this officially settles it! I can now say I can find just about anything I need to on TH-cam! I have already bought a replacement hose/handle once...(the come as one piece) and now it has split as well. if I keep buying new hoses every time it splits, pretty soon I will have spent enough to buy a whole new vacuum. And I hate to throw an otherwise perfectly good vacuum into the landfill over such a small problem. I've ordered the proper bit set (mine are tamper proof) and hopefully I can continue to solve this recurring problem until the rest of the vacuum needs to be trashed. Thanks a million for the video! I really did want to see if my idea is even possible before spending the money on the new bit set!
That lavender vacuum of yours looks like an NV 22L. I got one of those that I trash picked last year. No problem with the hose on that one, but I just trash picked a shark navigator model UV410 today, that does have a hose problem. It also needs the bottom of the dust cup, as well as a good cleaning.
Thank you for this tutorial. Very well done. I can now finish repairing my vac! FYI--I replaced those little cheap-ass-rubber-tearing-apart tiny front roller wheels on the bottom with wheels I removed from a Matchbox car sold at Dollar Tree stores!
I looked at several shark hose repair videos before I found this one with the secret sauce. I had the same problem, took screws out but could not figure out how to get the clam shell completely apart. I was depressing the red button and trying to slide the end piece off but wouldn't budge so I figure i'd better do some you tube research before I end up breaking it. Now I see how it comes off I have confidence I can complete this. My only concern is the red button so I will need to figure out if I can get the tube off without removing the button or I will have to figure out how to remove it with out breaking it. Thank you for providing this critical part of getting this hose assembly apart.
The little gray and red button... push the button down and use a screw driver to pry the gray part forward and that will slide off. Watch out or the spring will come flying. Once you get that off the collar just slides off and the rest is cake. Thanks for posting.
Hey Joe and Clint! I am SO CLOSE to getting that gray ring and last purple part with the red button off (thanks Joe for letting us know how to get the red button off!). Not sure how this is all going to turn out, yet.😉
Thank you so much for taking the time to make abd post this! It seemed like the tubing that was threaded was either glued or fused by heat.. They don't want to make this repair easy lol I had to use brute strength to pull the wire out of the plastic. You saved us time money and above all sanity, thanks again!
Glad to hear. I had to use strength to but I didn't want to make it sound too difficult in the video. Your proof it can be done! Thanks for the comment.
YAY Thank you my poor hose was held together with tape on tape up on tape shocking. The amount of money I've wasted having to wait 20 mins for a vacuum shop to fit it and all I needed to do was twist both ends lol thank you so much 😀😄
From one Clint to another, thanks for posting this. :-) I had to remove a very large ink pen from inside of the hose of this same model. After removing the pen, I noticed the grounding wire and plate that I had NOT noted before taking all apart. Seeing how you had it lined up at 6:50 saved the day for me. My vacuum is back to 100%! Great video!
You can put a little dishwashing liquid or hair spray on the hose to help it screw all the way into the fitting. You cannot wait long with hair spray or it will get sticky. A little dab of hand soap or dishwashing liquid like Dawn is best. Put it in the threads inside the fitting and a little on the outside of the hose. THERE IS USUALLY ENOUGH HOSE IN THE SHORT BOTTOM HOSE THAT I CAN AFFORD TO CUT ABOUT 3 INCHES OFF AND THEN SCREW IT BACK IN.
this video was so helpful. thanks. i have a newer shark navigator vacuum but still has a similar design. i had a toy stuck right in the hose at the end where the handle is and got it out by opening it up.
great video! thanks for making and sharing :) my Shark vacuum has special star screws :/ not sure how to get those out, not a screwdriver that i have ever seen. Any ideas?
Even though that looks like a special screw it should be available from a decent hardware store. It may be a Torx that are easily available. Or, it is a special security type screw, then if you go to a specialized "Nut & Bolt" shop, they will have them.
Something you forgot to said in the video is you have to take off the red clip in order to be able to remove the front tube. I just find out after look at your video multiple times. By the way, thanks for your help, before I was sure can not take it apart (Because I try it before and give up)
Nice video! I have this exact vacuum and went thru exactly what you did trying to get that handle apart, the only exception is I gave up and bought a new handle from Shark. I think it was 20 bucks! Thanks for making this video!
Thank you so much for this tutorial this helps so much!! I wish you knew how to get that button off a little easier. At least I know now that I have to pull that part off so I can crack it open I almost complete broke it by trying to pry it apart!
Hi Clint, I just bought a Shark NV 830 *Duo Clean brushes and love the machine but HATE how short the hose is. Do you think there is any chance of using your method to splice two hoses together? I do realize that by making the hose longer I might loose some suction, but having the dirt cup falling over on me while dusting when trying to reach more than 3 feet away is madding. Thanks!
Hey. I did a bit of research and it is difficult to say how easy it would be to replace. I wouldn't recommend trying to splice though. You could possibly try to change the hose yourself though you'll have to be comfortable with either jerry rigging of things don't go perfect or possibly having to take it to a vacuum cleaning repair company to finish if you can't complete it properly. I guess it depends on your comfort level and if the annoyance outweighs the possible repair costs. Good luck. Let me know what you decide to do!
Very helpful, thank you. I was wondering what held the hose in there.. I did not think to un-screw it, instead I thought it might be glued and I would have to buy the hose with the couplings for our Shark Rocket. But I could not locate anything like that on line. Hopefully I'll be able to put Humpty Dumpty all back together. The Rocket model has to come all apart to get to it's broken hose.
I don't know about the Rocket. I don't believe the hose was glued. Because the hose was more "rubbery" than Plastic it seemed to grip the threads better. Again, not sure about a Rocket. Good luck and thanks James.
hmmm...interesting, though, I believe the rubber just wears out with time and all the air flow dries it out. I have never really thought about what would be covered under warranty, I knew it was old and I just fixed it. Thanks for the comment Mark.
