Awesome cooking idea's and insights... It all looks tasty, going to have to look into this. Love the cheese burger lettuce wrap idea as much as the steak. Brilliant... 😎 And as he usually does, Snuggle bug Hobbs try's to garner all the attention... LOL 🙂
Used sous vide for years. Avoid the expensive plastic wraps by using zip lock bags. Make sure to squeeze all the air out of the bag. You can reuse the bags if you wash them.
I could but I’m vacuum sealing everything anyway for the freezer for storage. so next time I’ll just pull something out of the freezer and it will go in the pot straight away… but did watch a few videos with the ziplocks and seems to work great as long as (as you mention) the air is removed.
Have used a vacuum sealer for years. You can do this with almost anything. Sometimes yu can freeze juicy things, like berries, then seal them. Things keep very well. 😊
You got a great deal on the food saver and only paid about what it's worth. I never saw one of those water boiler/circulators before but it's definitely handy. 😄👍
Advid Sous Vide user for years... Luv it for our proteins. Next idea for you. If you have leftover protein, put it in the food saver, freeze, and when ur ready to enjoy it, put it back in the sous vide. Almost as good as it was when it came off the cooktop the first time. Thank you for bringing us along.
Wow. Never thought of reheating a previously Sous vide in the Sous vide! Have to experiment more with the Sous vide. Chicken is probably good also, less dried out I’d imagine! The steak was soooo tender!!!!
What a wonderful alarm clock to have.. Hobbs is such a Beautiful blessing.. That steak looks delicious.. Have fun out there.. ((HUGS)) to you and Hobbs💙✝️
@@WildWanderland My little dog that passed away in February of this year was twenty years old and he was blind and deaf but he still occasionally woke me up climbing on my head and wagging his tail against my ear.. My new puppy just pounces on my face when she's ready to get up.. Both of their techniques definitely makes me smile.. 💙✝️
So cool! I just got a food saver at Costco for our current trip prep and love it! The only problem I had was with really juicy roasted pork tenderloin…the liquid got sucked out into the little green tray and then must have kept it too cool to seal completely. I had several spots that didn’t seal. Tried a second time and still didn’t work. Dang! I have a Ninja Toaster OvenAir Fryer that I use for all kinds of things. First time I air fried the pork tenderloin vs roasting and…omg! It was beyond tender and beautifully browned! Even took pictures! 🤣 Love to Hobbs…💖🐶💖
Mine has a wet and dry setting. Haven’t used the wet setting yet though.. not sure if mine would do any better. Maybe, maybe not… it’s really coming in handy for food I put in the freezer! ❤️
Sous Vide is the way the expensive steak houses cook it! Breaks down the fat marble. Melts in your mouth. Personally, I use a cast iron pan after sous vide and cook each side a minute or 2 before eating. Bon Appetite!
YES! I was watching a video where they took the cheapest Walmart steak and did a taste test and nobody could tell after it was Sous vide. So…tried my first attempt with a nice steak but after this I’m going to save my $ and move to cheaper cuts! Sooooo delicious. 🤤 Where has the Sous vide been all my life?!? Never heard of it till recently.
@@WildWanderland Speaking of dusting it off I just started using my food sealer again. Got steaks and pork loin and I am glad I watched your video. Mahalo Kelly!
Interesting way to prepare a steak. Personally I'm using the grill. Glad your new device was a success. Those are some serious ants. Continue living life to the fullest by doing what you love. Stay safe and happy travels 😎
Looks like too many steps and a lot of dishes, lol. I'm not a steak girl, I'm a pescatarian. When you were in Alaska and canning that smoked salmon OMG, drooling
🤮 I only eat fish when I’m visiting my family in Hawaii. Has to be super fresh or it makes me vomit a little in my mouth. 🤣 Did eat salmon in AK too. actually…the only dish I had to clean was the cast iron pan I seared it with (the pot was just warm water in it, no food touched it) and next time I might try my torch instead of the pan! 🎉
Nice part is you don’t have to watch it while it cooks, it has a time so it just does its thing and turns off. Need a torch and it will cut down on the fuss of having to pan sear it and dirty the pan. 🎉
How funny, my chef friend suggested to me just today to sear before you seal in the bag and again at the end. It really is very unappealing after cooking that way 🌞
That’s going to be next. But the google said that takes some practice to make sure you don’t get propane taste and get an even sear with a torch so I might mess it up. 🤣
@@WildWanderland You need to make sure you have a clean burning blue flame not yellow, but I never had an issue with that using my standard plumber variety torch. I was using MAP gas so maybe that made a difference.
@@WildWanderland Mine was the right choice because it's what I already had. We were talking about diesel heater low voltage the other day. Well, I cut out about six feet of wire from the wiring harness and it fired right up. Went from about 8 volts while the glow plug was warming up to about 11. Apparently that was good enough.
@@schmonsequencesah. I need to add that to my to do list. I was annoyed this morning…had to wait for solar panels to get sun before heater would work…😂 so not helpful to have to wait till it’s sunny for heat.
Not sure what it used but…I am positive it didn’t pull 700 watts very often because otherwise my inverter would have cut off. Since the water was up to temp, it just intermittently kicked on to keep it at temp. Maybe next time I’ll plug into my little EcoFlow to get a wattage reading… 👍🏽 now I’m curious too!
@@WildWanderland How ideal for indoor cooking, especially if it's anywhere near average energy consumption with cooking it conventionally. Im always looking for ideas of vanlife cooking without a flame 🔥
When it comes to water for your sous vide pot, couldn't you just use dirty water or even creek/lake water? After all, it doesn't have to be clean since it's not touching the steak.
Thanks!
So glad that your steak was tasty! Yay!
WOW!!! NO WAYYYYYY!?!? TH-cam just emailed me, I’ve never received any of these! 🎉 I don’t even know what to say, that’s a lot! Thank youuuu!!!!!! 🙏

A friend uses this all the time, when he has guests he pre cooks their steaks, to the degree of done for each then pan seers just prior to serving
That is a really good idea! Then you’re not stuck cooking the whole time your guests are there! Just a quick sear and bam! 💥 dinner is served!

I would try washing and reusing the sealer bags.
That was a crazy way to cook a steak. Seems like a lot of work but the results speak volumes. Can't wait to see how you perfect it.
Now I have a couple of steaks already vacuum sealed in the freezer so at least I can skip that whole part next time! We shall see!!!

I've never even heard of a Sous Vide lol. Yum, now I want a nice steak! 😆
I gotta work on my searing. (Beautifying the steak.) Watch real youtuber videos on it, it’s cool, highly recommend! Set it and forget it steaks!!!
A chef friend introduced me to sous vide years ago. The beauty is you can make a cheap cut tender. Also, some models of the Instant Pot can sous vide.

Well that is interesting and it sure looked tasty.
Good choice of steak, im picky on my meat but eat meat normally every day. Pan fry from the pack on low temp covered it will cook and be tender.
They say cooking this way will make any cut tender. I’m not so sure but will be giving it a try! 😁
Sous vide steaks are great.
I went to buy a new printer yesterday, and the day’s of almost free printers is over unfortunately, and the ink is still outrageous.
Oh no. Course they’re not almost free anymore…everything is so expensive anymore. I cringe when I need a new ink cartridge…
I have smart pot , I even do canning in it . Make my jam for the year picking my own berries.
I need to upgrade my inverter… be nice to have an all in one solution like that!
@@WildWanderland . My van has my old system I bought a Jackery just for my cooking or blender /magic bullet pro.
I have heard about the Sous Vide but never used one. Can’t you reuse the water for something else? Looks delicious!
I did use the water for something…can’t remember what but did use it, just not for cooking or consuming.
Mmmmmm steak!!!
Have you tried using your little griddle to briwn your steaks. It will brown it with the grill marks. Don't overgrill the steaks. Just for browning.
Um….this is such a good idea!!! Didn’t even think of it!!! ❤️

Sear before AND after. 🤔 I should try that…

He did get a tiny snack. Almost so good I didn’t want to share!
YUM!! I am a Texas GAL RARE please... oooooo that is perfect!!! Wheres the A1 sauce? lol
It was so good, no A1 needed. And let me tell you…I love me some A1 so that says a lot! 🤣
I used to finish off my sous vide steaks with a blowtorch. It's fun and surprisingly effective.

It's a ribeye you gotta do something horribly wrong for it not to be tender :-)
