what i did is just go and farm xp with toxic rats (or however theyre called) next to fishing village until level 20, and after that it was easy.
At least with greatsword it was very easy to grind, just get them all at once and use both your skills and theyre dead.

What I did and found a lot easier was just hitting him and tanking everything while using health potions once in a while, took like 2 minutes at lvl 13

you have to be the final hit then you get astra flares its not an item

It’s not that bad I beat him second try using dagger and bow I killed the minions first the spammed bow while dodging and jumping over projectiles
