It's not obvious to many black metal fans but traditional heavy metal is where a lot of the greatest black metal releases stem from. Coming to traditional heavy metal is really coming home. Darkthrone is a perfect exemplification of this, having been on their years-long trip to developing a new, hard rock/heavy metal sound
This is a masterpiece, it's been years since I heard an album as fucking great as this one, there's not a single bad song the album flows so nice from one song to another, this is what I call musicshianship maturity.
I always think of Witchfinder General with this album because it has the doom metal aspects but also has hints of early 80s metal like early Ozzy material. A very well written album that i keep coming back to and a heck of a debut.
Ozzy's definitely not doing it these days. Someone's got to do it. That's exactly what these dudes are doing. Perfect vintage heavy metal sound. You have achieved this without the cheese of other NWOTHM bands. Great job 🤘🤘
if this band appeared in the 80,s it would be very tall and we would all talk about them today!I had enough time to hear something so good.A mix of big groups of the past.Excellent sound and very good production.Grends from Greece!
I was pleased to see these guys a few weeks ago in Austin with Eternal Champion and Venomous Maximus at the Baracuda. Ten Bucks! The EC singer used the lads from Sumerlands as his band. I just love catching the rising stars.
Mr. TieFighter, we seem to frequent the same bands, albums, videos. You have excellent taste! I saw both bands, again, this past weekend at Hell's Heroes Festival in Houston (21 April 2018). Same deal. Small venue. The vocalists shared musicians although some switched instruments. Maybe they will always be a "twofer." They should be playing arenas but I'll enjoy them in intimate settings while I can. We need sophomore albums by both bands.
I want to record this to both sides of a cassette and just flip it over until it's entirely worn out. Wow. This isn't metal for 15 year olds like a lot of metal, it's metal for older metallers who want to feel as excited about metal as they did when they were 15. Superb stuff!
I am in love with this band. This álbum is one of the best things that I ever heard since when I started to be a metal fan in the beginning of the 90's!
I haven't been this excited for new music in a while. Well done indeed. It was shared on FB, I gave it a try, and I actually thought it was old. Hahaha well done indeed.
The NWOTHM group shows that you don't have to play like Yngwie to be power metal. I could see myself playing this song. It gives us hope. Also sounds like it was recorded on a cassette tape with the only effect being Audacity's Echoverb. I feel like I'm 21 and listening to Iced Earth again.
I think the reason we love it is that, although it sounds very nostalgic (70'/80' and all of that stuff, you know, Judas and Black Sabbath), on the other hand we can feel some kind of modern tone on the sound. Personally I find an Sludge touch on the guitars and vocals, it reminds me of Mastodon and Baroness. That combination's so cool.
Ozzy and Sabbath are my all-time heroes so I am very much in love with the Sumerlands record. It sounds like Black Sabbath playing Ozzy's "The Ultimate Sin".
In Theosophy, Summerland, also called the Astral plane Heaven, is depicted as where souls who have been good in their previous lives go between incarnations. Theosophists believe the Summerlands are maintained by hosts of planetary angels serving Sanat Kumara, the Nordic alien from Venus who Theosophists believe is the governing deity of Earth and leader of the Spiritual Hierarchy of Earth. Sanat Kumara is believed to rule over our planet from the floating city of Shamballa, believed by Theosophists to exist on the etheric plane (a plane between the physical plane and the astral plane), about five miles (8 km) above the Gobi Desert.- Wikipedia So, where's the second album?
RIP Brad (bassist) ❤ you will be missed brother 💪🍻
Just noticed that the last track, "Sumerlands", contains the same riff used for "Twilight Points the Way" on the Dreamkiller album
I'am a Black-Metalhead. Heavy-Metal is not my taste, but this is delicious.
Now i'am a fan of Sumerlands, Smoulder, Eternal Champion and Haunt.
see also Bolt Thrower
If you like Black'n'Roll try Midnight 🤘

Еа!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best heavy metal albums of this decade!
Band: How much reverb should we put on the vocal track?
Producer: Yes
How much?
All of it.
ruins it for me....pass
Makes it interesting for me...take!
C’mon!
It’s been fours Fucking years now.
We need Fucking MORE!!!
it's kinda crazy Eternal Champions debut came out a few days earlier..both sound so much alike.. kudos to Arthur Rizk!
Yeah, they are a bit similar I agree. I got to see both these bands live on the same night at Resident Los Angeles. The place was packed.
I think they have the same guitar player but not sure.
Eternal Champion has 3 members of Sumerlands
@@tiefighter3445 Hell yeah I was there, that was a great fucking show

This is amazing!! The perfect amount of agressive, nostalgic, and mysterious...

This is fucking sick! What a refreshingly nostalgic style.
Browniewaffels reminds me of Randy Rhodes era Ozzy. Sick stuff!
The Black Sabbath/Ozzy vocals are evident!! Killer Album!!!
The Mark Shelton & Manilla Road influences also shine through.
Reminds me a lot of The Ultimate Sin specifically.
Am really adore everything about this album ..greeting from Libya 🇱🇾

Ok it's been three days and I've listened to this five times
First melody when the album starts sounds a LOT like aint talking about love
totally
100%
The same...
It sounds a *little* like it. Not totally. Not 100%. Not the same. You people have wooden ears.
It's a LOT like it! Not complaining... just sayin'. All my metalhead friends seem to have wooden ears then.
I don't know who these guys are...but I'm diggin' it!
Same vocalist in bands Hour Of 13, and Seamount, check them out for more awesome sounds.
Up the irons on this one!
I was pleased to see these guys a few weeks ago in Austin with Eternal Champion and Venomous Maximus at the Baracuda. Ten Bucks! The EC singer used the lads from Sumerlands as his band. I just love catching the rising stars.
Peter Pandemonium I also was able to see them here in Los Angeles a few weeks ago with Eternal Champion and Blade Killer. Great performance.

Absolutely fascinating and engrossing journey back to the ancient and glorious times.
AUTOPSY

Great debut album!
Great catchy heavy metal.
original and unique different and a one of a kind!!! DETAILS...present..HORNS UP !!!

The main riff of The Seventh Seal immediately makes me think of Aint Talkin Bout Love by Van Halen
true... in a jake e lee tone
It easily entered my Top 5 (favorites) albums list! today I received my copy (lp)! I hope to see you soon in Thessaloniki!
That part from 0:00 to 32:19.....Wow

Is like Judas Priest, Queensryche, Ozzy and proto-doom of 80's. Maybe...
I hear Ozzy (mostly Lee era), Van Halen, Arch era Fates Warning, and even some Zeppelin!

Thanks Fenriz
They sound like Kadavar with dashes of 80s metal.
Spiral infinite is my fav..

Jose Antonio Molina Mastodon and Baroness do the 'sludge' name a disservice but I know what you're saying and don't disagree.
exactly whenever i listen to these guys, mastodon always comes to mind
even the vocals, in some parts, sound a bit like brent's vocals
Vocally reminds me of a combination of Saint (Kramer-era), Thunder Rider, and Blitzkrieg(90's).
Jesus this album is amazing. Like seriously, this is automatically going to be a favorite of mine.
It's been 6 years now and We the People, demand a second album. Please 🙏

There is hope for metal after all.. epic!
Ozzy and Sabbath are my all-time heroes so I am very much in love with the Sumerlands record. It sounds like Black Sabbath playing Ozzy's "The Ultimate Sin".
Amazing album. I haven't been this entranced by a band since finding Dio 3 years ago
Amazing vocals... Nice guitar sound.....
I hear Pagan Altar and Manilla Road
Just scrolling through these and your references (and taste, I assume) jumbed right out at me. Dig the Pagan and Manilla shoutouts!
opening riff - Ain't Talking Bout Love vibes ;)
