@garethlloyd48 it's possible but I'll be honest I'd be expecting around £150 labour + the cost of the replacement board on this kind of a job to be honest. It's a huge job and isn't realistically worth it. If someone's happy to pay that I'd do it, but I'd also have to charge £50 if the job is unsuccessful because of how much work is involved

The problem with the "you can't even access the digital content you bought and paid for" argument is that you don't OWN any of the digital content you buy anymore. You just have a "usage license" for it that can be revoked for any number of reasons. It's absolutely wrong that companies are allowed to get away with that, but it's the new software world we live in, and it'll never change so long as people keep "buying" the content.
It’s always been a license, difference is with DRM the licenses are more harsh towards the buyer.
The long and short of it, is that the market is now hostile to it's customers.
This is why consoles are for children, buy/build a gaming PC like a proper adult

I work with repairs for a long time, I'm quite patient, but reballing by hand is some zen level of patience

frr its so fun my xbox had an issue with overheating and all i did was clean it out and replace the thermal paste and now it works

Nearly 100k subscribers! I remember you helped me diagnose My Series S about a year ago, i'm about to upgrade to an SSD soon. (original hdd had failed, i stuck in an old laptop drive with offline update) These videos definitely help show why repairs can cost so much. there's some serious time and skill needed, and you explain the process so clearly too.

Unsporting behaviour doesn’t result in a console ban, those are always account bans. A console ban usually happens with more serious actions such as distributing emulators in retail mode
Also, games are attached to the account so you’ll keep the games
I was wondering how this works. If your console is banned, you can still play installed games offline correct? This is how it worked when I got my 360 banned.
@@s10jamif you have a disk drive you can play offline only if the game is installed, otherwise if you have a digital only console after some time it will ask to connect to the internet i think its like once a month or every couple months, so if it works still offline a series s after some months would be completely useless
Great reason for Microsoft to turn the console to ewaste
Console bans were usually carried out as a result of hardware mods like jtags, and distribution of hacks/hacked items. It has always been possible to undo a console ban, however they are flagged in the system and will likely be rebanned within days if the mod is still installed or the user begins distributing hacks again(the accounts used for distribution and ALL associated accounts would be flagged and actioned upon with varying degrees of severity depending on the association), we saw some banned consoles get repaired/refurbished and resold both with and without the modded hardware installed. You could also get actioned for selling or offering to sell illegally modded hardware(some mods were considered fine by microsoft like some controller mods)
Or cheating on a jailbroken device

usually the keyvault is flashed into NAND not CPU, it’s not a HWID that’s calculated based on internal hardware, so if changing CPU works then that’s quite interesting. more secure than flashing NAND and getting away with bypassing

There isn't a KV in the new consoles, the console certificate is stored in the AMD PSP and Microsoft just revokes it when you're banned.
KV uses CPU ID and is flashed to the NAND

They tried to make sure that the offender will never find a software work around the ban by tying it to hardware. But it is indeed unfair to make the console entirely unusable.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the console serial number is stored in the BIOS chip, but the APU transfer is also necessary because the SSD is paired, or rather the hidden partition is. I wonder if and when someone figures out how to create that partition from scratch would it be enough to only transfer the BIOS chip to unban the console.

I'd bet BIOS is encrypted and contains CPU serial. They match BIOS to CPU since XBOX 360 days, if I remember it properly

You can use the program Eagle to crate a footprint for the APU and get a stencil made from the gerber files, if the stencil isn’t available. Easier than balling by hand.
A SMD-stencil from JLC PCB. Also can be used for SMD components (makes sense if you are soldering one footprint over and over)

Yeah I'd assume they actually do, but realistically the only components which can be serialised would be the apu, ssd and bios chip which all got changed anyway 🤔

Really interesting, i was always wondering if there was a way to replace a component to unban a console. I think the horrible thing here, is the idea of resale, people selling banned consoles as uses and in good condition, or at least That's the fear. Hopefully that's not a huge issue though !!

it does matter how much flux is on there because it bubbles with heat and will Float the part causing a no connect or faulty connection.
It actually won't cause that. You could empty a full tube onto the area and I promise it wouldn't hurt a thing
