It was fantastic. First FF I ever completed. Though now looking back, the story could have been done a bit better. But Its still one of my faves gameplay wise.

I love this song so much. Final Fantasy X-2 is definitely a... weird game for sure, but I have fond memories of booting up the game and hearing this song. Reminds me of the same feeling I get with Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts.
Honestly, if you can look past the silly storyline, it has the best implementation of ATB in the entire series. Only game in the series I felt compelled to do ALL the extra combat missions. The combat was just fun.

@@beurtalvarez The issues for me were 1) the intro is quite jarring. Remember, PRESENTATION. I think a slightly altered intro would have made it easier 2) Culture clash West/East; some themes and characters are... odd, to say the least. The character "Brother" is quite the example. 3) Yuna's clothing design (and face) is meant to be polarizing on purpose (Yuna struggling with identity and copying others). However, they went a bit overboard I'd say.
Personal note: I consider the 'good ending' the right one, instead of the 100% 'perfect ending'. I think the former has a better message as well as impact on the overarching story.
This song is essentially a core memory for me. It feels like it’s a part of me at this point after playing X and X-2 so much during my childhood. Every time I hear it I see flashes of Yuna, Rikku, and Paine in my head and it makes me tear up ❤️
I think of all the title screen songs from Square Enix games where I could just leave it playing all day (of which there are A LOT), this one right here, this one is my favorite. It's just so chill and wistful.
X-2 is quite the departure from X in terms of both tone in the music and the story. It's much cheerier and lighthearted on average.
I'm probably in the minority in that I like X-2 more than X. It's just a really fun game.
I beat X-2 before X, but that’s because I enjoyed the battle system and job system way more than X’s tactical turn-based system. But the story and majority of the music was hot garbage.
I like X more, but X-2 definitely gets a lot more flak than it deserves. I generally agree with criticism of its story, but if you just treat it as a goofy romp with a really solid combat system, it's still a pretty fun game.
On that note, before remastered X/X-2 came to steam, the last time I played was at a friend's place back in like 05 or 06 and he fell asleep on the couch, I let the game go to main menu then I myself fell asleep while this went on loop.
I would never be able to justify calling X-2 a better game than X, but it's such a wild time with so many ideas and energy that I love it all the same.
Man there is just something about this opening theme that just gives so much nostalgia and some feeling of bittersweetness after you play and finish the first game. T.T

OOOH. I was gonna request this song, but it looks like I can pick something else out of the X/X-2 pile. As you've already guessed, it's the sequel to the masterpiece we call FFX. X-2 is one of those games that people either love or hate, lol. That said, I think mostly everyone can agree that X-2's OST is pretty dang solid. Noriko Matsueda and Takahito Eguchi were in charge of composing the songs for X-2. Nobuo Uematsu did compose around half of the songs for FFX, though!
I personally really love this game and it holds a special place in my heart. When I first played this game as a kid, I would sit back and unwind to this opening song 'cause it was just so... therapeutic? I think that's the most fitting word for it, haha. I'm also a sucker for piano, so there is that.

I love X-2 as well. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s just really fun with a lot of freedom. I was surprised of how non linear FFX-2 is compared to FFX.
The nostalgia hits hard with this one
This song has always hit me on some deep, fundamental level and never let go. I had played this game at a very young age, and then a decade later I just couldn't get this song/track out of my head to the point I tracked down an old PS2 copy and replayed it all, and then when the remastered collection came out I couldn't help myself from giving it yet another go purely because just reading the title of X-2 filled my brain with this lovely little song. It is simple yes, but it's enchanting, doubly so when you play the game and get some context of later scenes where it will play yet again.
I watched my brother play FFX but this was the first Final Fantasy game I purchased.

Final Fantasy X-2 can best be described in one word, fun. Both its soundtrack and its gameplay. This is the instrumental version of the song. The vocal version is sung by the Japanese VA of heroine of FFX.
Also, 'fast.' X-2 is the fastest FF game. Story-wise, combat-wise, and the flow of the series of minigames. You just go and then it's over. 'Well guess I'll just do it again.'
I still remember learning to play this song when I was in high school, and one thing I can say for sure is that the most difficult part was having my non-dominant (left) hand playing a steady rhythm while my dominant hand seemed to do nothing more than just accentuate the lower notes. It really threw me off at first, but it became quite fun to play later on.
I love this track lol. One of my favorites that wasn’t by Uematsu but still fits the vibe of FFX world.
If the piano sounds difficult here, wait until you hear the Piano Arrangements version where the single pianist has to do even more work to make up for the lack of any other instruments! (Square-Enix may be one of the few companies who can sell concert pianist-level sheet music to its fans and make a profit in the process, lol.)
For other X-2 requests... the two most memorable songs apart from this one are the vocal tracks, Real Emotion and 1000 Words, so you could take a look at those if you want to get a feel for the game.
That's a good point, FF is famous for the piano arrangement albums. Every mainline game gets one at the very least. There's some EXTREMELY impressive work put into them. It'd be worth a listen!

I played X-2 first before X and fell in love with the world. It's definetly one of the more musically focused games in the series with 2 full songs sung by the main character. This sad piano is a interesting contrast to the upbeat pop song that plays when you start a new game. I'd definetly reccomend X and x2 is a acquired taste.
Fairly simple song to learn on the piano, but very relaxing and one of the few songs I ever memorized. There is also a much more complicated/expanded version of this song by kyle landry.
I haven't played this game in nearly 20 years. Hearing this again just unlocked so many memories of leaving this intro on repeat to chill out to!

My brother had the pianist play this at his wedding. Had no issues keeping my composer until I heard those first 6 notes. Amazing track.
This is one of my favorite songs, game wise or not. I've always had a soft spot for softer songs, and this one takes the cake for me. It's a relatively simple song, however in that simplest form it brings a great beauty to this game and, in general, musically.

Wind Crest ~The Three Trails is my fav piano song from X2 but this one is also a common request when I play piano :D. Very simple and comforting for people to listen.

Perhaps it was the die hard FF fan in me, but I loved FF X2 so very much. I do see its shortcomings for sure, but man I loved it. Due to that nostalgia this song always hits different.

FFX-2 is a fantastic game with a great OST. Although Uematsu is not present Masueda and Eguchi I feel did a great job. At its core the theme of X-2 is love and change. We see it with all the characters, Yuna especially, and the music reflects the change in Spira. The Zanarkand theme is especially beautiful. What was once a symbol of finality and death is now a place of tourism, and wonder and its theme in X-2 reflects that. Every location in Spira has new music in X-2 and its awesome to listen to it and visit these places in a new light. The game got a bad rap because people just didn't want to see Yuna in that light and to many it was tonal whiplash but those more open minded understood that Yuna couldn't stay the same forever, especially with Tidus' departure. She needed to reinvent herself to keep going and find meaning in her new life. The gameplay is really solid, the job system was great with each class doing something different and unique (although a big reason why many didn't care for it was the transformations themselves), and the story is solid with it focusing on Yuna and her quest for finding Tidus. I still feel like X and X-2 are must plays, and to better enjoy the entire story.
wow, I just started playing X-2. I'm going through the numbered titles from 1-15 (and hopefully 16 when it comes out). X-2 was my first jrpg of all time, so it was crazy playing it as an adult. That being said, I really love it, especially the music. Not my fav (that's 7) but so far, really fun.
X-2 was one of those games I really hated at first, but man if it didn't grow on me and become one of my favorite games in the franchise. If only for the music and the combat system, I was willing to overlook the story being kinda weird.. this song always takes me back
The idea of playing a piano to me is like trying to do the trick of patting your head while rubbing your stomach but like x100, and you've gotta read two staves (I think they're called) at the same time too.
I'm not exactly great at it, but I play piano myself, and playing very differently with each hand is pretty difficult. Definitely one of the things I struggle most with. It's much less difficult when the timing for each hand is the same, but otherwise it can be pretty awkward (although I imagine it's one of those things where, once passing a certain threshold of skill, it stops being much of a problem). As for not looking at the keys, if you play using sheet music (I do), it more or less involves not looking from the start, so it's one of the first hurdles to overcome, up until you start learning different hand positions, at which point you have to look to make sure you've moved your hand to the correct space, but once it's muscle memory, it becomes unnecessary again.
I don't know anything about playing other instruments, so it may be the same on guitar or any others (though I don't see many guitarists use sheet music), but one of my biggest struggles with learning piano is reading sheet music. Having right hand thumb, middle, and index fingers on lines, but left hand on spaces makes me trip up when reading pretty often, and having to read from two staves simultaneously (especially when things start to overlap a bit) is pretty tough, as well as going from the right of the page to the left when finishing a line.
FFX-2 is a... controversial game, to say the least. I love the music, and I'm actually a big fan of its combat system. However, it has an infamously difficult "Guide Dang It" approach to completion, and if you want to get the Best/True Ending, you need to go through some absurdly intricate and easy to mess up steps. And yes, I still hold a grudge over it.
Anyway, if you haven't heard it yet, listen to Real Emotion, which is the first song you hear once you get out of the title screen. Excellent in both Japanese and English, imo.
yeah, I have the game and stopped playing because I was trying for 100%, was following a guide...and I got to a point where if I went forward and progressed the game, I would not be able to get or do something specific that I HAD to do for the completion. But in order to even attempt it, I had to do some pretty heavy grinding. And I just didn't want to commit to that, because it would've taken forever.
I got the best ending. Lost a few hours cause I skipped a cutscene

My first FF game. Well, I'd seen X first, but this was the first one I actually owned and played. Maybe I'll replay it soon, it's a controversial game but I have so much nostalgia for it and the soundtrack. The opening movie song (this one is the title screen song) is a banger, and I was always really fond of Paine's theme

I really wish X-2 had gotten the budget it needed to be a fully realized game, I still love what we got but when I think of the potential it had to be even better I get a bit sad.
If you're looking for songs from X- 2 to listen to, please listen to 1000 words! It's by far the best part of the game and a beautiful song and I know that you'll love it. Though be aware there are two versions, the one that places halfway through the game and it is shorter and then the full version that plays at the end of the game.

When it comes to the game itself X-2 isn't a bad game. When it first released and into its first few years reception was more positive than negative. Of course with how successful X was it had a hard act to follow. Like many JRPGs a lot of its more serious themes go over peoples heads because they would rather focus on the more goofy outer layer of the game's story than all the layers of depth that lay beneath it. If you ever get around to it I hope you don't stop playing it part way just because of how goofy some of its writing can get.
I also wouldn't say it is fair to call it a side game as some people do. It very much turns the story of X into a duology essentially showing off the aftermath of the events in X for both the majority of the main cast of X and the supporting cast of it, in addition to slotting new characters into the mix relatively seamlessly with many of them tied back to the events of X pretty efficiently.
The title is "Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~" and its by Noriko Matsueda and Takahito Eguchi. The orchestral version heard later in the game is "Eternity ~Band Member Performance~" and the leitmotif is revisited in "Wind Crest ~The Three Trails~." All are part of the game and by the same composers. 🙂 Once you hear them all together, I think its nigh impossible not to be moved.
As a piano player (at least long ago..) the difficulty isn't playing the instrument as in contrast to other instruments you "just" press buttons, a lot less execution heavy like playing the violin or anything else, but on the other hand, yeah you have two hands and the pedals to work with at the same time, which is where the complexity lies imo. I do think drums is actually not dissimilar, and I find drums mindblowing myself.

The instrument you're wondering about I believe are just called chimes, & are often part of the percussionist ensemble.
I always confuse them with wind chimes you put at your patio and the long rows of them from percussionists
@@JessesAuditorium I used to play percussion, & they were part of my kit. I had a set that were made of gold & set in a row, hanging from a wooden sort of plank. The simple way to play them was to run your finger, or a small tool like a stick down the side from the highest note to the lowest, vice versa, or both, sort of like an arpeggio.
@@JessesAuditorium I’ve played percussion for decades in orchestra, opera, concert bands, jazz bands, and percussion ensembles. I left a mention about the brake drum usage on a prior FF video. I also play piano, and I’ll say this piece is something I can sight read. However, that comes with 30 years of experience. I feel the same with how you play guitar. Haha!

I learned this song on piano a few years ago, it *is* harder to play than it sounds but pretty simple overall, I think! The melody's notes are hit mostly in time with the left hand's arpeggio, there are only a few offbeat. Definitely recommend learning at least the beginning! It's a calming loop to play (´▽｀)

FFX has a huge following and is the second most popular game in the series right after FFVII. FFVI & FFIX are also among the most well loved. FFX-2 gets a lot of flak because of how really different it is from FFX which is a game well praised by many.
Some fun facts about FFX-2: this was the first game in the series to feature just only three party members and are all female thus getting the reputation of being FF Charlie's Angels lol. It was also the first sequel to any FF game and the last FF game released by Square before becoming Square Enix in 2003. Nobuo also didn't contribute a single track to the OST.
Speaking of piano tracks, I'm quite surprised "To Zanarkand" from FFX, which is one of its opening themes, hasn't been reacted to yet. This is the most popular FF track along with One-Winged Angel. In fact, these two are required to be performed in every Distant Worlds concert. I hope you check them out.
Square Enix has a thing for having good opening titles and this track from FFX-2 stands out for me. You might want to check Dearly Beloved from KH as well, another great track.

There's one Final Fantasy song that is seldom ever mentioned or reacted to despite being such a banger, and I wholeheartedly recommend you take a listen if you haven't already. The song name is God In Fire - Dissidia 012. The vocalist sang in A Stranger I Remain from Metal Gear Rising. It's super catchy and heavy at the same time, and I would love to get your reaction of it.
As guitar player it would be, especially for this song, very interesting to see a reaction to John Oeth's interpretation and arrangement.

I hear you on the piano stuff, I can play one hand or the other but not both. I play 5 brass instruments, a few types of drum, and can play xylophone/glockenspiel/vibraphone halfway okay, even learned to play maybe 2 songs on guitar at one point, but truly playing piano just doesn't seem to work for me.

FFX was my first final fantasy and X-2 was the first game I bought for PS2. There are people who don't like the 2nd game's story but can't deny it has some great music jams. Personally I thought it was a great ending to the series and we can all be thankful they didn't publish X-3 as a full game.

5:15 You think piano is hard? Try the organ, 3 rows or more with keys + the feet. Oh, and organs (church organs in particular) originally weren't made with the same standards, so one organ in Germany may be quite different in Italy.
Also, you can't "hold" the notes with the foot pedals like you can with the piano. Which makes the transitions in regards to finger positioning partly different.
4 different melodies at the same time... How's that for multitasking capability?

The gameplay i found was weird everything else was great music storyline so ffx3 will come out in several years. Amazing how time flies by i was 16 years old when i played ffx now im the exact same age as auron 35 years old my personality has really changed to i cant believe ffx came out in 2001

FFX-2 is kinda all over the place in tone and story... but it kinda works.
It's set in a world that's lived through a major watershed event. It was a GOOD THING for sure, but Sin and Yevon dictated every aspect of their culture and lifestyle for centuries.
No one knows what to do with themselves anymore.
The game reflects that.

Nah, Piano is not as difficult as you think. For this song, most of the work is on the left hand playing all those arpeggios. It involves wider movement, but on a regular pattern of arpeggiation. The right hand doesn't move that often in this piece and just play quite a simple melody.
I love this piece a lot. It sets the mood of the game into something a lot of laid back and nostalgic than X.

This reminds me of staying up until the sun rose at my grandparents house trying to 100% this game. The game was the first FF game to track your progress in-game IIRC. The music is nostalgic and sad. That being said, you're coming off from not liking FF8 --- you would NOT like this even though it's MUCH simpler. LOL!
X-2 might not be the most memorable of the series but god damn is the battle system the best of the ATB versions and i unashameably love it so much so that my ps2 save has over 200 hours and 100% completion

This game has a lot of goofy scenes, then throws in the actual story relevant scenes (the darker scenes). It is definitely a side game, but does have scenes that follow up from FFX. A weird game indeed

X-2 has a bunch of great music, it's just kind of a shame that it's... In X-2. That's kind of the general sentiment with everything good about that game. Great music, but it's X-2... Great combat, but it's X-2... Nice presentation and UX design, but it's X-2... That truly was a Nojima/Toriyama game...

I would have played the game, but it was literally perverted man, plus the all female cast, meh - I hear it was actually a great game.
Yeah FFX-2 is a weird one...personally I love the gameplay but the story and tone are really all over the place, especially when compared to FFX, I enjoy it but it pales in comparison to FFX for me which is just a masterpiece in my eyes and always will be.
Please listen to real emotion and 1000 words from x-2. You want the proper video to it cuz it gives contexts to the songs. I understand that you prefer just audio but I think your missing out on some of the emotion to it especially 1000 words.
X isn't actually very hard rock at all except for that first song you listened to. Great OST, but not very rock
I only liked a couple songs from this game it's pretty much DLC of X..and no wonder the music sucked...the God wasn't involved lol...and this song was one of the few that was ok and the ones Yuna sang were good
