KDF needs to have a branch called Kenya co of engineers or call it (KDF Academy, KDF school of Engineers)Akin to the American co of engineers. American co of engineers was envisaged on the premise that since the army had so many expertise in Engineering like building all manner of infrastructure it was envisaged that during peace times that these expertise can help the nation build its infrastructure from ports, bridges, dams, power plants, rail, roads, hospitals you name it. Similarly KDF needs a branch of KDF co of engineers . KDF needs a university that deals with engineering only to build out the countries infrastructure at less cost but at the same quality as those of chinese, japanese and other foreign contractors. For instance, the chinese and japanese have built Kenya's infrastructure from rails, ports, dams, roads, power plants, oil terminals, solar plants etc but also the govt has insisted on skills transfer. So can we say we are now capable of building our own SGR , expressway, bridges over water, roads , termioinals etc with the same quality, speed and less cost. The idea of skills transfer is to enable the country to become self sufficient in its infrastructure needs instead of importing skills from abraod. Imagine the benefits if we could do this on our own. The money stays in Kenya, jobs are created for skilled workers. etc All those who have worked on these chinese and japanese projects instead of letting them go home after their contracts, they all need to be issued with a certificate on the skills they did. Then, immediately they are recruited into NYS. From there they then go to KDF co of engineering to horn their skills further and learn the latest in engineering in the skill sets they learnt on the ground. The university can also hire experts from China, japan to teach in these subjects and train Kenyan teachers to teach in these subjects on best practices. KDF can also send its students abroad to learn advanced engineering all the way to PHD, and best management practices as you will need managers to manage these proects. This way we are able to build our own capacity in building our own infrastructure be it SGR, Ports, Roads, buildings, you name it. all at less cost using our own labor. Just like GDC has done. We do not import skilled labor to drill for geothermal because we have the expertise already on all things geothermal to the point we now get contracts from neigbouring countries to build their geothermal resources. Kenya needs to do the same on all aspects of infrastructure from architects, designers, layers of infrastutcre, logistics to ensure everything is in place, soil and metal quality testing, use fo drones for surveying and mapping, surveyors, supervises, inspectors, safety, road contractors so many fields that go into building mega infrastructure. Infact base titanium has trained so many Kenyans in mineral extraction and those people too can be recurited into the school. They have learnt about safety, meaning when moving heavy machinery to sites, base recorded zero injuries. They learnt about soil testing etc. Engineering encompasses so many aspects and we need to build capacity in all aspects of construction and ready when called upon. I wish someone from KDF can go through and see how American Army co of engineers was started and its mandate. Wikepedia has alot of information on the American co of Engineers. We already use KDF to revive KMC, NMS and revived Kenya maritime services in Kisumu and Mombasa but we need to go bigger and have our own China roads and bridges company that gets all the infra contracts in Kenya. Its about time Kenyans got the contracts and this would be the first step.
I am not happy with this man's leadership...nevertheless seeing a person so jovial about such a thing is kinda nice. It warms the heart. He is like a little kid seeing something exciting.
