  • This week we continue metal detecting this amazing 1750's colonial home where we've already pulled some remarkable old things from the ground. Now normally the 2nd day at a location is rarely as good as the first day but this place was the exception! So many incredible old coins, amazing relics, bucket listers, and some crazy old coins that one of us never knew existed! From the first hole to the last it was a packed day of incredible finds and even a few that are almost impossible!
    Join me, DogTag Doug, Rich Van Winkle, Charlie the Heritage Relic Hunter, Just Silver Joe and more fellow detectorists for some metal detecting at a 1700's colonial farm this weekend at the "Come Out Swinging "metal detecting fundraiser event in Boyertown PA this weekend!
    Sat and Sun, November 4th and 5th 2023

    Cerrobend. A>K>A> Woods metal. Patented in 1860. Also known as Lipowitz's alloy, Bendalloy and Pewtalloy. Low melting point makes it useful forsoldering and making metal parts. Its a mixture of bismuth (50%), lead(26.7%), Tin(13.3%) and Cadmium (10% by mass). Melting point is 158 degrees F

    The 1875-CC dime has two varieties with respect to mintmark placement: above the bow on the reverse and below it. The "below" variety seems to be worth a little more.
    Would not suggest getting it graded, @RichVanWinkle, as the grading companies would likely note any environmental damage from it being a dug example and assign it a "details" grade that would impact its value.

    I used to work for Cerro Metal Products. Cerro Bend is an alloy of bismuth and lead. It is often used in pipe bending. You would fill the pipe with the melted alloy where you wanted to bend it. You could then bend the pipe without creating a constriction as the metal would keep the pipe at full diameter. It could then be reused by remelting it with very hot water and pouring it out of the pipe.

    • @lynneoppenheimer9695
      @lynneoppenheimer9695 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Hi Dennis! I’ll answer your question….there’s 2 reasons that I don’t detect. First, I’m too interested in what everyone else is digging up around me, and if I’m detecting I’d be focusing on just what I’d be doing, and miss all the great discoveries! Secondly, I have Lyme disease (for the 5th time) and have a lot of joint pain from it. I can’t hold a detector for more than a few minutes before my right wrist is screaming in pain! Maybe someday…

      @@lynneoppenheimer9695 I’m sorry for your illness Lynn. I know what you’re talking about. My Arthritis has slowed me down from detecting the past 2 years. I get down on the ground and then struggle to get up. Thank you for your response and keep hunting !
