Fire surged forth unabated. Grylzras hated battles like these. Grylzras loved battles like these.
There are many reasons one may want to overturn the flow of time.
Greed. Kings and Lords looking to gain an advantage and unchallenged power.
Knowledge. Great sorcerers seeking to peer beyond the veil of the world.
Foolishness. Egoists believing themselves above the laws of the world.
Grylzras the Dragon Warden would turn them all back, and if they did not have the sense to flee, turn them all to ash. None would pass, for he was sworn to guard the Nexus of Continuity, no matter what.
But every so often, those truly desperate would come to challenge him. For reasons selfless. For reasons bigger than them. He would incinerate them all the same.
A shame
He paused his breath. Only to see the challenger still standing, if a bit winded.
Oh? This one is stronger than most.
“Hah hah” the challenger steadied their breath and stood straighter
“Noble Grylzras, Warden of The Nexus, I am Sir Lawrence of Ishfania”
What a polite human, even the proper address. A shame.
“I beseech you, let me pass, as we speak the kingdom I hail from is being ravaged by undead led by the Lich Rerriat.”
“We are hopeless to resist him, allow me to use the Nexus to forewarn my people”
The walls rumbled and Grylzras began to speak
He hated battles like these. He will have to crush such hopes.
**Well met, Lawrence of Ishfania**
**I acknowledge your plight. Nevertheless, you may not pass. Leave or be destroyed**
“I can’t do that. I swore an oath.”
And to that, Grylzras rose to his full height
**As have I. On guard, challenger!**
Without hesitation Lawrence charged
“For Ishfania!!!”
And Grylzras met him full force
Grylzras loved battles like these. What a brilliant individual. He would get to watch them shine.
Thus, a battle for the ages began.
