Thank you for the update. You seem so much lighter with your new hairstyle I'm missing the buzz cut recently. My current hair journey can be summed up as "curly Florida summer hair he**". Mine lives in a bun. Everything you mentioned...chlorine, beards, salt water, humidity...gah I digress. I have 3 years left on my growing out journey. 50th bday goals to make it without heat, product, e.t.c and see how long I can get it.i haven't had hair to my waist since high school, so I figured why not? Lol
I know long ten a buzz cut will be my style of choice as I get older for simplicity, maintenance and just sheer rebellion. Lol.
PS, I second the olive soap!

Oof I remember the FL days. Growing up, I wrangled with it a lot. The tap water there was NOT helpful either. Definitely tried too hard back then because when I would go back in later years it seemed ok and by that point I just didn't use anything in it at all. Also though, the later years visits were on the west coast versus east- not sure if that has any effect as it's only like 2 hours away. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention rain! it's a relief there too :). Ha yeah with the waist thing for me it became more about breakage becoming the issue bc of the weight and putting it up so much, even when I was treating it well and not putting any product or heat at all. I saw an older lady rocking a buzz the other day, nice and clean :)

Thank you for this video. I got my first buzzcut ever today. It was kind of delayed decision. Basically, I had brain surgery 7 months ago and they asked if I wanted my entire head shaved and I said yes, but they ended up just shaving where they had to. So I had like an inch or two headband like shave from ear to ear on the top of my head. In hindsight I’m glad they did this because the hair hid the severe swelling that I dealt with for many months. It’s 99% resolved. Up until a day or two ago I was on medication that caused a lot of hair loss (non permanent so i’ve read). I also had 3 inches of roots with long, uneven purple and yellow hair, and the little growing in pieces made me look like I had antennas, plus it was thinning, and i have the scar (which actually looks better than I thought it would with the buzzcut) I was so unhappy with it and finally got around to taking buzzing it into my own hands. It’s more of a strategic step in regrowing my hair, taking the weight off of it, and starting fresh. Seeing women who chose this for themselves, and seeing what shaved heads looks like is normalizing this experience for me. My partner is supportive but I just feel so far removed from myself, and my identity. I am still happier with this than what I had because it’s kind of like a rebirth. Sometimes I’m just tired of having to do the strong thing and do what’s essentially chosen for me. It is the first day and I’m excited to see how it grows in and embrace the awkward stages. I also tried a wig and realized my forehead is very small and it kind of just looks awkward and I hate the adhesive so I’m going to try a wig with bangs and go for a wavy shag look.

Aw thanks for sharing this Stephanie! I'm glad you're healing and on this side of it. I can definitely relate to what you mean about the identity stuff. And the rebirth stuff! Even though I cut my hair very short a couple of other times in my life, I still just kind of feel myself as a person with long hair internally or something. It was long for WAY more of my life, and I even came out at birth with a full head of thick hair. This is the shortest it's ever been in my actual alive life ha. Hope it can be fun, and even if you never do it again, hope you get to enjoy the experience of being hair free with all it's perks for a little while, knowing it's temporary :). You can say/know you had a buzz cut once! And I bet at least a couple other women who see you will then have one more reference point of it being a thing we can do and look cute.
