Perhaps the West Loop has been remade, but, if there is a small lock icon on the button that is located on the top of the lid, it is used to lock the seal button. The current West Loop models have the button lock function.

An update; There are two West Loop models. The West Loop was reintroduced with the button lock lid, same model otherwise. A side note, Contigo sells the button lock lid for the West Loop at $7.00. I remember seeing new lids on eBay for $5.00. The threads of the old and new West Loop are the same, as only the lid was remade, so, for those that wish to have a button lock, $5.00-$7.00 isn't so bad.

I haven't had any issues with washing the lid. It's best to do it right after you're done using it, since it would only need a quick rinse of hot water... but I've also washed it plenty of times after it's been sitting for multiple days, I just turn it upside down and hold the button so the spout is open and rinse it thoroughly with hot soapy water.

To share my experiences; I have two of these (the old model). I've never used them for keeping drinks cold, but severeal of my co-workers have, and if you add a few ice cubes in there in the morning and forget the mug - there is usually still some ice left when you get home from work, That, is impressive.
I've used the older one for 3 years in outdoor work - an it would keep my coffee warm for 3-4 hours in -18 celsius. Thats about 0 deg farenheit. It has taken more abuse than some hammers, and still going strong.
The reason I traded it in, was that after 3 years the finish was pretty tarnished, and the new West Loop (!) models have a tab inside the lid you pull open, to make cleaning the lid MUCH easier. I'd love the new model design, as they fit better in "all" cupholders - but I can't stand the feel of the button on the Aria model. The button on the 3 year old West Loop still feels as when it came out of the box.

I believe there are... sorry I didn't have time to do temperature testing... however I can assure you your liquids will be very hot even hours later.

The Lid does suck to clean so rinse while everything is still wet with clear water by putting the lid on, shaking vigorously and pouring it out while holding the button. Even with that, My drinks were starting to taste like dirt because of stuff collecting in the closure. I used a piece of wire to keep it open and put the top in the dishwasher which seems to have done the trick since it was able to get into all the nooks and crannies that aren't exposed or accessible when not opened.
