Absolutely amazing!! I've ridden my 2022 Versys 650 for 700 miles and my least favorite part was the seat. I ended up using a piece of 12 gauge metal and drilling the 1/4 inch holes myself. Thanks so much for the tip, the bike is so much more comfortable!
Thanks Dork! I just did this mod on my 2016 Versys 650 and it worked like a charm. Bad news, over the last 4 years since you posted this the Home Depot components now cost over $11. A travesty, I know. Thanks for all of your content and stay safe.

Hello, I just did this mod. to may 2009 Versys. How many of the washers did you use on your mod. per side? Thanks for your feedback. 😊
Thanks for posting this. I just did this to my 2015 Versys 650LT. Took maybe 5 minutes following your instructions. The stacking sequence is key. Bought the parts today (9/20/21) at Home Depot for about $12. Everything was stainless. Clamped the hinge in a bench vise and cut the ears off with a Dremel. Haven’t ridden yet, but just sitting on the bike I can tell it’s going to stop the forward pressure. Thanks again!

Hey Dork. Did this hack to my 2016 Versys 650 seat. Works great and makes a different. Very easy. Parts list was spot on. Ordered everything online and picked up at two different Home Depots. Thanks.
Very useful tutorial. Thank you, I just got done doing this mod and it worked great. However I think you might have been mistaken when you said to buy a 3" hinge. The 3" inch hinge I bought was too large and required heavy modification. I think the 2.5" was the right one. Either that or they had them mislabeled at the store where I bought them.
This didn't work for me aside from the gap it will create between the seat and bike it also destroys my balance.. the best mod i made for my comfort was buying a cycling shorts with padded foam and gel on the butt and it saved my riding comfy level 101 percent

So just picked a 2021 and on the first ride I immediately notice that the seat feels pitched forwards. So I get to work and end up watching this video. I go out and take my seat off only to realize that this exact mod has already been done! 😂 Anyhow, the guy I got this bike from lowered it 2”. I think he actually went a little lower on the front end than he was supposed to so I’m gonna raise it up an inch and I think that’ll help me out.
It's like seats are an afterthought on bikes these days. Like I said in your other vids, just moving up to bigger or more expensive, does not equate to more comfort. You could have done the same thing on the 500F. It makes no sense to me that manufacturers seem to care more about looks, than how a seat actually functions in the real world. I think they know that most people won't spend a lot of time test riding before they purchase, so looks trump function and comfort. Most seats these days lock you in one position "versys" the old days when people understood that a flat and well padded seat gave you the option to change position and still be comfortable. If I were making bikes these days, the seat and riding position would be my main priority. But that does not sell bikes to noobs. Its all about looking cool now....
Thanks D.I.T.R. I fully understand the front portion of the seat however my question is about the flex of the seat pan in order for the four posts with frame contours to make contact. When you sit on the bike do you feel the seat pan flexing?
I own a 2018 Versys 650 but haven't had any problems with the seat. I might slide forward a bit when braking downhills but other than that I don't have any problems. Might be my riding pants?
Great job. I think i would send the seat out still. Got to protect stuff and they made it that way to seal it Can you post when ur out in the rain to see how it does?
Or maybe a strip of black rubber like a short curtain hanging down from the inside of the seat. Stapled or glued to the seat's underside? Never tried this myself yet.
I know this is a few years old but I hope you will still see this. I did your mod on my new versys this weekend and it raised perfectly however now my seat rocks side to side a bit. Raising the seat raised the seats bracing posts up so they are not sitting on the bike frame. Did you experience this and if you did, did you find a fix or just let it rock?
@@ericwestland5620 I took a small piece of foam and used metal tape to place it on the frame where the supports sit. It was just enough to keep the seat from rocking. I can send a pic if you would like. I don't know how to upload a pic to this site.

This would not work as shown on my 2008 Versys 650... At first I thought the bolts weren't long enough because I could not get them to screw in, but I somehow got what looks like the same lift using this sequence: Bolts, stock plate thing, 4 washers, door hinge, 1 washer... So no nylon spacers for whatever reason...
We're the same height and mine fits me fine. If it seems tall at first you can loosen up the suspension a bit to give you a little more sag (easier to get your feet down) until you get used to it.

I installed the printed version available on UK Versys forum. This has much improved the seat because it levelled it out. However, for heavy riders the seat still lacks padding and is uncomfortable after only 100 miles. Does anyone know if there are any seat alternatives in the UK?
Nice video. I have a question, during the outro of your video you were looking at the transmission, does the clutch cable coming out from it have an oil residue?
Thanks for the vid. I need to do this, after about 30 miles the stock seat has me hurtin. Will this void warranty?? I'm still under warranty until end of November. I guess I can ask dealer Friday, my Versys is getting it's first oil change. Growing up so fast.
Just keep the original hardware and put it back if you need to. I'd be really surprised if it affected your warranty though because it's not modifying your engine.
What size hinge was it? 2.5 inches or 3 inches? Also, Do you think that the rubber bushing UNDER the seat that supports the middle of the seat needs to be lengthened or add rubber to it? Is that the reason for the small backpack under the seat? Thank you. =-)
It seems like the nylon spacer linked to on HD.com is 1" tall and not wide at all. I'll have to go back to HD but for now I just have 2 washers below the door hinge and 2 above. Works okay, though I expect it would be easier to get the seat back in with the 4 washers above the door hinge to make that slot bigger than strictly needed. I also had to drill out the washers a tiny bit. 1/4" instead of 3/16" hole is recommended. Take the bracket with you to the store to ensure you get a door hinge with the proper hole spacing. I walked around my house holding it up to both exterior doors with 4 screw holes and interior/closet doors with 3 holes and they were the wrong spacing. Another comment suggested it might be a 2.5" hinge that is needed. I suspect that is correct, but I just used one I had and drilled out a new hole.
Under $10 with tax included 4 years ago but $14.77 today, Let's Go Brandon! Great video, copy the part numbers to home depo & let them fax you when they have gathered everything together, so easy I feel guilty about it.
I did also, so I had to use less of the washers. With the bolt going thru- only bracket + washer + door hinge + spacer + washer per side on my 2009 Versys.
Yes, the parts you mentioned are not easy available in Thailand.. Hinges are different, nylon spacers are bought a foot long, you cut the desired length.. Så i put a big bolt inbetween (had 2 in the beginning, but that was too high), It does lock now, not easy though and the sadle is a bit backwards aswell... I think i will weld the lock plate on a piece of metal and move it forward about a quarter of an inch.. Then it will lock again properly. Still thanks for a good mod! Will be driving 2500 km through Thailand starting tomorrow so i will know if it feels better in a couple of days :D Ride Safe and enjoy!!!
i had the same thing for 2 years. After about a year i noticed the paint was scratched off right where the seat was touching the tank. Then I noticed my seat was ripping right where the touching points were. Not worth it, you end up with a ripped seat and busted gas tank. I ended up buying an after market seat from Terry.
@@oneboyscout3653 Update: I paid $250 for the seat, BUT it was not comfortable.. I gave it a month to break in but it didn't help. I ended up trading it for a Corbin seat which i loved and used it for the next 3 years with no sore butt no more.

I don't think it works for the 2020 model. I can't get the seat to click down
Can you tell me exactly the Nylon Spacer's exactly in mm please?I'm in the uk but i can't find the right one. Thanks

Any good of these?
1st thumbs up for the dog!
Did anyone that did this mod end up damaging the paint on their gas tank or damaging the seat?
Nope. After you saw the door hinge with a hacksaw there is plenty of clearance on my 09.
Couldn't you just raise the height of the plate that the latch sits on?
The slant helps with people with short inseams , by rolling down at stop signs quickly
Thanks, for sharing this mod, Dork, but you screwed us over. When showing the assembly, it was not on camera in its entirety.
Under $10 with tax included 4 years ago but $14.77 today, Let's Go Brandon! Great video, copy the part numbers to home depo & let them fax you when they have gathered everything together, so easy I feel guilty about it.
:-( not the same for 2018 Versys 1000, has a different mounting bracket.
Tried it, seat wouldn't lock back in place.
Sorry to hear that. Mine is definitely a little more difficult now but it always goes in eventually.
I did also, so I had to use less of the washers. With the bolt going thru- only bracket + washer + door hinge + spacer + washer per side on my 2009 Versys.
I have the same bike & colour, had it 2 days and seriously thought my balls were about to pop with my pillion on the back pushing me more forwardXD
This work for 15 V1000?
I give up. You hold it low cant see
I tried this, but ow the seat will not lock anymore... :(
Is it too high then?
Anyone else have this problem?
Mine doesn't lock as easily anymore but will go in if I fiddle with it a bit. Did you add more spacers/washers than I did?
Yes, the parts you mentioned are not easy available in Thailand.. Hinges are different, nylon spacers are bought a foot long, you cut the desired length.. Så i put a big bolt inbetween (had 2 in the beginning, but that was too high), It does lock now, not easy though and the sadle is a bit backwards aswell...
I think i will weld the lock plate on a piece of metal and move it forward about a quarter of an inch.. Then it will lock again properly. Still thanks for a good mod! Will be driving 2500 km through Thailand starting tomorrow so i will know if it feels better in a couple of days :D
Ride Safe and enjoy!!!
Good lord can you hold that camera still? If you are going to video something MAKE SURE it's actually in the video!
Dang ! No more excuse for reassignment surgery ! 😢😂
i had the same thing for 2 years. After about a year i noticed the paint was scratched off right where the seat was touching the tank. Then I noticed my seat was ripping right where the touching points were. Not worth it, you end up with a ripped seat and busted gas tank. I ended up buying an after market seat from Terry.
Dork in the road...say it ain't so. Anyone else get a scratched tank? Don't care about the seat as much cause want to upgrade eventually.
link to buy seat from terry??
@@Beefsnorkel1337 www.terryscustomseats.com/
How much did it cost?
@@oneboyscout3653 Update: I paid $250 for the seat, BUT it was not comfortable.. I gave it a month to break in but it didn't help. I ended up trading it for a Corbin seat which i loved and used it for the next 3 years with no sore butt no more.
Getting seasick watching you
Is chewy a pug??
Oh I hate that testicular trauma.
I wouldn't buy anything Kawasaki because I feel they fucked me with this seat on this versys X300 and you guys say all the vs seats suck I called them and really bitched him out several times about needing a refund on the seat so I can buy another seat with the refund but they would not do it I wouldn't buy anything Kawasaki I'm done buying Kawasaki products after that. Dude I can't believe you cut on your factory body when you go to resell it it's not Factory in the people are going to know that you should have just had your seat redone by a local upholstery shop
Did not help, but seamless underwear did.
