This was the only mission my mom sat down and watched with me, she was genuinely impressed and was interested even though she was seeing it through a video game, especially since she was never a fan of video games in the first place.

Its really annoying if you first start this quest after you have the crashed Alien encounter you cant tell Cabot. I turned up at Cabot House with Alien Gun in hand, but there was no dialogue options that would allow me to mention it. Shame, would have loved to have seen Cabots face when id casually pull out my alien blaster, and be all, yeah I know, I killed one...
Edward Deegan is a jerk. He initialized the conversation when I was trying to talk to someone in Bunker Hill, forcing my character to spin 180 degrees and accidentally steal a screwdriver that was lying on the counter. Everyone went hostile and gunned me down in five seconds because I couldn't get them to stop. I was playing on Survival and hadn't saved in 20 min.
I feel your pain. I still don't understand why you're gunned down as if you were an imminent threat to all their lives, only because you accidentally picked up junk worth 2 caps. That's also the reason why I'm using a quick save mod for survival, because I'd go crazy.
I think it's weird that Jack is unknown to the Institute. Because as they said theres no better kept secret in the Commonwealth than the Institute. So how do they not act on the Cabot family? Like Jack is clearly a genius and that's what they look for. And then theres the immortality of Lorenzo. It typically goes against their plans. It could make their synths useless or even better if they tried. Because theres more prewar specimens readily available that are immortal. I just find it kinda weird that the whole family hasn't even popped up in the Institute's studies.
i imagine few if any people know about the Cabot family's existence. if they have technology available to them like abramelin fields and shit, they can probably keep their activities secret enough to not attract any attention, especially with how long they've been doing it. or it just never even occurred to bethoosdle. who knows!
X6 comments about how little info the Institute has on Cabot house if you bring him there. I’m guessing the sentry bot guarding the front door has something to do with it. I would have liked an option to get Jack to work with the Institute or to have the Institute kidnap the Cabot family to learn about Alien artifacts. It would change their perceptions about history and science on the whole.

Edward Deacon has a great voice actor. You really get the sense of his character through the voice actor himself. Bravo to whomever voiced him! Please return for other Fallout games!
i went to the amphitheater before starting jacks quest and killed brother thomas after refusing to join his cult. when i went back to get jacks sister during the quest i found that brother thomas was resurrected from the dead and again tried to get me to join his cult. i guess this quest is just filled with supernatural occurrences.
Simon Lee It shouldn't be him if he's dead, some other man called brother something takes his place. I'm thinking it's probably buggy though as he's probably the guy who voiced the dialogue so he's resurrected for the quest.
The guy before the quest is named Brother Andrew and they have the same voice. I always kill Andrew before the Cabot house quest usually when I'm getting Fred the hallucigen canisters I'll kill Andrew and his cult
Oxhorn you are missing some important details in the conclusion, like the fact that you can come back to the Cabot house a few days later after receiving the lorenzo gun and find Jack and his sister showing effects of the serum withdrawal and their mother is actually dead already because of it, meaning they will die soon too. With this in mind the final dead count is 4 if you choose to kill Lorenzo (the entire Cabot family), and 3 if you chose to help Lorenzo. Also that means there is no chance for a fallout 5 quest involving Jack Cabot and an ancient alien city. Just saying xD
I'm pretty sure you could easily argue that Jack's mother dies so quickly is because she was already so old. Jack's sister states she was 32 when she started taking the Serum and she's gone for about a month without it trying to stop using it before and was fine. The mother dies in less than a month which suggests the older you actually were the faster you die once off the Serum. Or maybe the mother couldn't stand the withdrawal symptoms and her body just gave out. Whatever the reason I still think there's a strong chance Ox's prediction could be possible.

Unless Jack managed to reproduce the serum there is no chance of a sequel to this storyline .. saying that Bethesda change things to suit so its 50/50 really

Even tho we don't interact with her much, Emogene is probably one of my favorite characters in Fallout 4. The writing on her terminal does so much to make her feel like a real person. Seeing the perspective of someone who, on some level, actually wanted the apocalypse to come and got her "wish" was really captivating. Her line "How selfish must I be to think that I need the world to end as a way to get out of killing myself?" really sticks with me.
I really liked Emogene too! She was snobby but never rude, at least not to you 😅 Also, respect to her for defending the mansion from Anderson 😂 I enjoy characters who talk a big talk and can back it up!
I do feel Jack is misguided, i don´t think removing the crown will "cure" Lorenzo, because it was not really the crown that was making him do this things, rather by putting on a crown and communicating with the elders he adopted their morals, removing the crown would only make him mad for having lost his access to the elders, but it would not erase the last 400 years of him changing his personality, i don´t think the crown was exactly controlling him, he was just seduced by it´s power and promise of immortality and stuff, and who knows what else.

The guys working with Fallout's and Elder Scroll's story are really shitty at their job That's not even me talking is everyone that worked with these games, the dev talks with the director are painful to watch, his idea of dumbing down shit is what lead to Fallout 4 speech system, 4 options that mean nothing Wanna have more than 4 dialogue options? Too bad Wanna have less than 3? Too fucking bad The devs talked about how even for really small and meaningless conversations they had to add 4 "choices", which lead to having to repeat the same voice line for Nate and Nora way more than usual and also means having to pay the voice actor to have more variations of saying yes or no

I always turn to Oxhorn's videos whenever I come across a point where I have to make a difficult decision. He goes so well in depth into the lore, and explains everything so well to the nitty-gritty that it makes the decisions so much easier to make. Very informative as well as interesting and entertaining. These videos are so well done.

Then he may accidentally get in touch with the ancient artifact. Now if you choose the first ending, Jack mentioned that there could be another ancient city beneath the Mohave desert, which means is the Mohave desert where the Mysterious Stranger first get in touch with the ancient artifact, since there is a hidden alien city?

When I freed Lorenzo in my Institute play through, I started to see Lorenzo in the waste land one in game month later. My first random in counter with him was with Gunners. He killed them and came to talk to me. Then through the in game months I saw him more and more. He destroyed a settlement that I did not own. He attack a random set of brotherhood of steel group. After about one in game year, he appeared in Diamond city and started to kill everyone. If you free him, he will start to kill every slowly. When I later brought the Nuka world DLC and went back to that character, Lorenzo started to kill all my Raiders at my raider settlements. No allies talked about Lorenzo. It must of took about three in game years for him to reach the Brotherhood of steel location. Again it takes awhile but Lorenzo will eventually start killing out in the commonwealth.
As far as I know. This story is based on a Lovecraft story called the nameless city. In it, a scientist uncovers an ancient city in the rub al khali (the empty zone of saudi arabia) wich is filled with strange glyphs and depictions, even bodies of strange lizard like people. The idea of a proto-race, that evolved far before human civilisation is a somewhat often used occurence in the Lovecraftian lore. The Elder Things with their massive cities (one of wich is located on a plateau in antarctica) are described as a extremly advanced race, capable of creating biological abominations like the shoggoths. The Mi-Go are also a race that were there before the humans and they have advanced forms of neuroscience. These two races seem to influence the technology wich is shown to be used by lorenzo cabot. An extremly advanced form of neuroenhancer, telephatic device or a device that holds the conciousnesses of countless things. Plus it alters his biochemistry. In the original story, the entitys, that live in the nameless city weren't advanced. They were more like religious and somewhat agricultural and settled, but not highly technological. Because of this, Bethesda mixed in some of the wild things, that are described in other Lovecraftian stories. There are many more instances (like Dunwhich House and Dunwhich borers, thee ritual site and Blackhall manor of Point lookout) were lore of Lovecraftian origin has been used, hinting that either Bethesda pays respect to the master of cosmic horror or that the fallout universe was ill-fated to have actual beeings from other dimensions, that will rip apart the thin layer of sanity and plunge everything into the deepest madness.... if they awake and pierce the boundaries to us, that is.
After reading that story and replaying this mission I caught onto it fast. Wish they could add more of this in the future, it seems to fit the world of Fallout.
"The Nameless City" was inspired by Irem of Pillars, the ancient city lost in the desert. It was mentioned in Quran. And the quest itself is rip-off of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward".

He, like Emogene, probably became ambivalent towards the "cure" given how long it was taking. Plus, yeah, functional immortality would be a hard sell to pass up for most people especially, as Emogene noted, once you become accustomed to being young forever. That said, at face value, I believe it's pretty clear that Jack never actually gave up or was only "going through the motions" since he seems legitimately upset that he was unable to save his Father, even if only due to his appreciation for his Father's work in discovering the alien progenitor race Seriously, though, something I haven't seen anyone else consider is simply because Jack seemed to dial down his research on his Father's condition nobody entertained the possibility that he was simply burning out. It would be easy to keep up enthusiasm in the beginning, when Jack was making new discoveries back to back, but over a prolonged period it's not uncommon to want to take extended breaks - especially given the Cabot's are very much still human with the associated desires/moods

That said, I don't think understanding the concept of living 400yrs, with no discernable death in sight, to be the issue. I think what is incomprehensible would be the feelings/emotions you would have after that time. Given that Lorenzo is weak to Zeta waves the aliens in question are the Zetans, the Aliens found in all the Fallout games, just like Kryptonians are weak to Kryptonite on Earth.

Yea and Jack mentions they found an alien city somewhere in the Mojave. In New Vegas, you find the Aliens and their blaster weapon with Wild Wasteland Perk in the far corner of the mid-north. Maybe a strange coincidence or it could be THE place.
The Artifact Gun is one of the most OP guns in the game. Get explosive, nuclear physicist 2, science and pistol perks and it absolutely annihilates everything. No joke. Behemoths, deathclaws, fog crawlers...everything. Its insane. And this quest. Holy fuck it was the single most intresting thing ive ever experienced in a fallout game. Such an intirguing lore.
I agree. Killing Lorenzo is the better option for "good" players. I constantly encountered Lorenzo surrounded by dead ghoul settlers, not ferals, just because he found them fascinating. He's a danger to everyone in the Commonwealth.
"Emogene runs off with a new bow" But... but there's no arrows in this game. For me, without question, this was the best line of quests in the entire game. Sure, only 3 or so quests but each was long and thought out with more bits of info for the back story & with multiple options and outcomes at every step of the way.

I think it's written well because it's not so clear cut which side's truth is actually the truth, though I ended up believing Jack more. The conspiracy that they're just using the father for his blood was a nice twist though. And I liked Emogeen. I found her well written and relatable. I think her reaction, thoughts, and behaviors are realistic for someone who is immortal with super immunity and who was probably kept from doing interesting things. The boredom, trying to fix it by meeting boys, the happiness of fending someone off because it's probably the first time you've actually gotten to take control and not just sit around, the feeling of superiority that one would get from eternal youth and beauty and the inability to forego it, and the depression that comes with immortality.
Honestly I think everyone is telling the truth in this one as evidenced by how quickly everyone expresses doubts about Jack's motives. Yes, he does finally kill his father but only after he realizes that he's going to to be killed. Jack tried to cure his father but over time the failure has worn him down and he really is just "going through the motions" ... the exact time frame of when this happened is unknown but I suspect the seeds started from a desire to save his aging mother, both for her sake and his fathers.
You would sacrifice the godly Artifact gun but gain immortality... a tough pick either way imo. With the drug you can further boost stats with psychobuff etc for a net strength of 40. Enough to beat the living shit out of anyone dumb enough to cross you. On the other hand you could gain God's right hand of unholy justice by killing him. The artifact gun is a ton of fun. Watching deathclaws blast off into space is so satisfying.
Lorenzo truly couldn't sound more evil or less trustworthy, so I side with Jack. Sure 400 years of trying to cure someone is definitely not entirely kosher, but I believe Jack's intentions at least are good.
Actually a lot of side quests and lore you can find everywhere if you actually try in this game. People under estimate fallout 4 because it's the new game in the series, happens with every game even new Vegas. You people will get over it when the next fallout is here
This is fact. ^ Everyone shits on "the latest and greatest" just because it's new and different. FO4 will fall into the category of classics once the next game or two in the franchise is released, and then everyone will bitch about those two. It's the way fandoms work, sadly. I personally will always like FO4 because it's the one that introduced me to the series. Something all previous titles failed to do based on my disinterest.

A selfish side note with helping Lorenzo. The serum will allow you to live a long , and youth life with Shaun [the child] should you let the synth child live. Because if you let the synth child live with you without the serum ; you will age , and die leaving a small boy in a sick world alone. [see - Billy the kid]
Plus if you are a lover of Hancock like me your SS can stay a youthful human and still raise hell with Hancock for many years to come. Not to mention Danse, Curie, and Nick your other non-aging companions won’t have to see you pass from old age.
Just did this quest line yesterday, I'm not excited to find out if I made the wrong decision. I'm getting the sense I fucked up by helping lorenzo... edit: yeah, I fucked up. Sorry Cabot family. I'll take that L on this one.
They were all kind of assholes anyway 😂 and it's not like Lorenzo actually does anything. I know for the storyline's sake they say he'll run rampant and murder people but in reality he just chills at his house.
If you'd forgive a late reply he purposely made this character look like a snake since it was his evil Institute character. Outside of that, he admitted he didn't really care about minute details about their faces.
Now imagine... With the Insitute's technology, they could artificially reproduce Lorenzo's DNA. Put it into a Synth. Put it into an ARMY of Synths. An army, of psychokinetic, immortal, 50% DR killer synths. All maddeningly, deeply in love with you. All at your direct control.
Jasper Edwards definitely would have made the quest even more interesting. could have tied Lorenzo to the reason for the alien coming. coming back for his hat.lol
Watching this video years later, there’s also a chance of meeting Jack Cabot as a wandering trader later down the road. I encountered him right outside Abernathy Farms. Only way I got it though was freeing Lorenzo and killing him soon after so Jack could spawn at Cabot House. He sells junk and some chems but it’s still interesting to talk to him for the first time, since he says he’ll be traveling to the Mojave
If you side with jack after a wile you can fined him walking on the roads with his guard and he looks really old and tells you that his mum and sister are dead and asked for some parts for something he is building
The artifact and the mysterious serums are things you wouldn't want out in the world. You can imagine the Brotherhood of Steel or the Institute having virtual immortality and a powerful alien tech weapon. This isn't part of the actual game but both factions would certainly seek the Cabots out once they knew about the artifact. The BoS would probably eventually use these advantages to wipe out everybody else, the Institute would become completely unstoppable although immortality would probably be restricted to the senior members of the Institute. While Lorenzo's release doesn't factor into game play there is no reason to believe he'll be anything but a malicious psychopath out in the Commonwealth and there's no reason to believe he wouldn't kill you down the line at some point. I think Jack Cabot has a tiny bit of altruistic motive in the sense that "saving" his father has been the driving motivation behind his life for centuries. However I don't think any of the Cabot family actually have any regard for Lorenzo has a person. I think if came down to "saving" Lorenzo and losing their immortality in the process they wouldn't "save" him". Emogene is really just a spoiled brat I don't think she has a real developed philosophical regard for her situation or privilege. There might be a small advantage in the long run for Jack Cabot maintaining his research as it could be possible, but highly unlikely, that his research could benefit others. However in more than two centuries since the bombs dropped nobody from the Cabot family has lifted a finger to improve any aspect of the Commonwealth. So in conclusion, killing Lorenzo protects the Commonwealth from dangerous tech, a virtual god psychopath, and keeps more people alive. You could release him for the short term benefit of well-deserved justice against the Cabot family but you expose the Commonwealth to things that could utterly destroy it.
As interesting as this quest was, there is one thing that bugged me about it, and that was that after it ends, nothing happens. I know Bethesda didn't have the time to focus on one family, but we are talking about over 400 years of potential knowledge. Lorenzo is by far the oldest living being to be known in the Fallout universe, and all he does is give you a serum each time you visit him, and I heard that there is a random encounter where you find him besides a creature he killed, studying it, and that's just it. There should have been more dialogue, maybe some miscellaneous quests or even side quests given by him. With this character I just see so much wasted potential, so many things that could have been done with him. It's too bad, but the quest was fantastic, in my opinion better than the main story of the game.

Hear me out guys. What if the aliens we've been encountering in Fallout 4 and previous Fallout titles are different from this precursor race and that these aliens are after this older group's technology or knowledge. It explains the alien showing up in Boston. (Did Lorenzo use his powers to make him crash?) It explains the presence of that team of Aliens found in New Vegas (with Wild Wasteland on). They were searching for that other lost city. It could be the reason these Aliens had a fleet orbiting Earth in Mothership Zeta in Fallout 3. Maybe they've been looking for these alien artifacts for centuries. (Hence the Samurai, Cowboy, and Soldier found aboard their ship). The aliens we encounter are often referred to as "Zetans" and what kind of radiation is the only type that seems to effect Lorenzo and can Dampen his Artifact's abilities? "Zeta" radiation. what if... these two groups have been at war for millennia and now these zetans seek these artifacts to gain the knowledge these older group has that could give them insight on how to win the war. Or they could take the boring route and just say this old civilization is the same as these new aliens. and they need their old tech back for some reason.
curtis H I also believe that these are different aliens than we've encountered. The once we know don't really fit to the setting and artisan detail of the crown. They seem less complex than these ancient aliens. A weird feeling for me is that that crown sounds more like it belongs in the Elder Scrolls series instead, but that's irrelevant.
I don’t own any of the titles from the fallout series, nor have I played them (system and budget limitations), but the lore has always fascinated me. Long story short, this video was expertly done. Voiceovers from you were timed out and balanced perfectly with in game audio. You also spoke clearly and eloquently, so much so that even a layman like myself was able to follow along. Bravo. +1 sub.
Even when emotions and tensions were high Jack still cared for his father he's a good guy though I do like Lorenzo the chaotic neutral type of character is really enjoyable to me!
From a purely logical perspective, I'd side with Jack every time. It's a "the lesser of two evils" situation. Let's assume that Jack and his family have entirely selfish motivations for keeping Lorenzo locked up and only do so to extend their lives. You have to compare that to what will happen if you side with Lorenzo, who is clearly deranged and psychotic. What Jack and his family are doing (if their motivations are selfish) is entirely contained within their own family. They very rarely involve outsiders in their affairs and it's almost exclusively when they need to hire someone for one reason or another. People do sometimes die in service to the Cabot family, but working for them is probably no more dangerous than being a guard for a caravan or perhaps working for any of the major factions in Fallout 4 (the Commonwealth is a dangerous place, after all). Lorenzo, on the other hand, clearly has no qualms about murdering anyone and everyone who gets in his way. If Jack had not imprisoned his father when he did, he clearly would have continued killing and committing all sorts of atrocities throughout the centuries. In the age after the bombs fell, if Lorenzo had been free, that would have more than likely made an already horrific situation that much worse.
From a true logic perspective values are subjective things. Choosing the "lesser evil" is not more logic than being egoisitic and killing both of them to take the crown for yourself.
Ox, when Jack Cabot brings up possible alien artifacts in the Mojave Desert, he's referencing Fallout: New Vegas, where you can also find a group of alien sif you have thw Wild Wasteland trait.
The best sidequest in Fallout 4 and one of the best in the whole franchise. Having an immortality serum and outliving the apocalipse is surely one hell of a life history.
It is strange though if you kill Lorenzo Jack's way he doesn't seem to age at all or anything and he stays at the insane asylum which while if you let Lorenzo out and then kill him they all start aging rapidly. It seems to me the Zeta pulse might have merely fried his brain while keeping the body alive so they can continue to use his blood

This was the only mission my mom sat down and watched with me, she was genuinely impressed and was interested even though she was seeing it through a video game, especially since she was never a fan of video games in the first place.

Its really annoying if you first start this quest after you have the crashed Alien encounter you cant tell Cabot.

He initialized the conversation when I was trying to talk to someone in Bunker Hill, forcing my character to spin 180 degrees and accidentally steal a screwdriver that was lying on the counter. I think it's weird that Jack is unknown to the Institute. Because as they said theres no better kept secret in the Commonwealth than the Institute. So how do they not act on the Cabot family? Like Jack is clearly a genius and that's what they look for. And then theres the immortality of Lorenzo. It typically goes against their plans. It could make their synths useless or even better if they tried. Because theres more prewar specimens readily available that are immortal.
I just find it kinda weird that the whole family hasn't even popped up in the Institute's studies.

i went to the amphitheater before starting jacks quest and killed brother thomas after refusing to join his cult. when i went back to get jacks sister during the quest i found that brother thomas was resurrected from the dead and again tried to get me to join his cult. i guess this quest is just filled with supernatural occurrences.

Oxhorn you are missing some important details in the conclusion, like the fact that you can come back to the Cabot house a few days later after receiving the lorenzo gun and find Jack and his sister showing effects of the serum withdrawal and their mother is actually dead already because of it, meaning they will die soon too. With this in mind the final dead count is 4 if you choose to kill Lorenzo (the entire Cabot family), and 3 if you chose to help Lorenzo.
Also that means there is no chance for a fallout 5 quest involving Jack Cabot and an ancient alien city.

I'm pretty sure you could easily argue that Jack's mother dies so quickly is because she was already so old. Jack's sister states she was 32 when she started taking the Serum and she's gone for about a month without it trying to stop using it before and was fine. The mother dies in less than a month which suggests the older you actually were the faster you die once off the Serum. Or maybe the mother couldn't stand the withdrawal symptoms and her body just gave out. Whatever the reason I still think there's a strong chance Ox's prediction could be possible.
Lorenzo wanted to go back to the site at.a later date... since he is immortal then it's him that could be the one involved in fallout 5...

Even tho we don't interact with her much, Emogene is probably one of my favorite characters in Fallout 4. The writing on her terminal does so much to make her feel like a real person. Seeing the perspective of someone who, on some level, actually wanted the apocalypse to come and got her "wish" was really captivating. Her line "How selfish must I be to think that I need the world to end as a way to get out of killing myself?" really sticks with me.

I do feel Jack is misguided, i don´t think removing the crown will "cure" Lorenzo, because it was not really the crown that was making him do this things, rather by putting on a crown and communicating with the elders he adopted their morals, removing the crown would only make him mad for having lost his access to the elders, but it would not erase the last 400 years of him changing his personality, i don´t think the crown was exactly controlling him, he was just seduced by it´s power and promise of immortality and stuff, and who knows what else.

When I freed Lorenzo in my Institute play through, I started to see Lorenzo in the waste land one in game month later. My first random in counter with him was with Gunners. He killed them and came to talk to me. Then through the in game months I saw him more and more. He destroyed a settlement that I did not own. He attack a random set of brotherhood of steel group. After about one in game year, he appeared in Diamond city and started to kill everyone. If you free him, he will start to kill every slowly. When I later brought the Nuka world DLC and went back to that character, Lorenzo started to kill all my Raiders at my raider settlements. No allies talked about Lorenzo. It must of took about three in game years for him to reach the Brotherhood of steel location. Again it takes awhile but Lorenzo will eventually start killing out in the commonwealth.

As far as I know. This story is based on a Lovecraft story called the nameless city. In it, a scientist uncovers an ancient city in the rub al khali (the empty zone of saudi arabia) wich is filled with strange glyphs and depictions, even bodies of strange lizard like people.
The idea of a proto-race, that evolved far before human civilisation is a somewhat often used occurence in the Lovecraftian lore. The Elder Things with their massive cities (one of wich is located on a plateau in antarctica) are described as a extremly advanced race, capable of creating biological abominations like the shoggoths. The Mi-Go are also a race that were there before the humans and they have advanced forms of neuroscience.
These two races seem to influence the technology wich is shown to be used by lorenzo cabot. An extremly advanced form of neuroenhancer, telephatic device or a device that holds the conciousnesses of countless things. Plus it alters his biochemistry.
In the original story, the entitys, that live in the nameless city weren't advanced. They were more like religious and somewhat agricultural and settled, but not highly technological. Because of this, Bethesda mixed in some of the wild things, that are described in other Lovecraftian stories.
There are many more instances (like Dunwhich House and Dunwhich borers, thee ritual site and Blackhall manor of Point lookout) were lore of Lovecraftian origin has been used, hinting that either Bethesda pays respect to the master of cosmic horror or that the fallout universe was ill-fated to have actual beeings from other dimensions, that will rip apart the thin layer of sanity and plunge everything into the deepest madness.... if they awake and pierce the boundaries to us, that is.
After reading that story and replaying this mission I caught onto it fast. Wish they could add more of this in the future, it seems to fit the world of Fallout.
"The Nameless City" was inspired by Irem of Pillars, the ancient city lost in the desert. It was mentioned in Quran. And the quest itself is rip-off of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward".
I kept thinking from the beginning of this quest it had to be based on lovecraft somehow. I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this.

I think that originally Jack wanted to save his father but as time passed he realized that immortality is great too and wasnt all that convinced he wanted to save him
He, like Emogene, probably became ambivalent towards the "cure" given how long it was taking. Plus, yeah, functional immortality would be a hard sell to pass up for most people especially, as Emogene noted, once you become accustomed to being young forever. That said, at face value, I believe it's pretty clear that Jack never actually gave up or was only "going through the motions" since he seems legitimately upset that he was unable to save his Father, even if only due to his appreciation for his Father's work in discovering the alien progenitor race
Seriously, though, something I haven't seen anyone else consider is simply because Jack seemed to dial down his research on his Father's condition nobody entertained the possibility that he was simply burning out. It would be easy to keep up enthusiasm in the beginning, when Jack was making new discoveries back to back, but over a prolonged period it's not uncommon to want to take extended breaks - especially given the Cabot's are very much still human with the associated desires/moods

That said, I don't think understanding the concept of living 400yrs, with no discernable death in sight, to be the issue. I think what is incomprehensible would be the feelings/emotions you would have after that time. I would think you would be apathetic to many things after living for such a long time, and in a wasteland to boot

The Artifact Gun is one of the most OP guns in the game.
Get explosive, nuclear physicist 2, science and pistol perks and it absolutely annihilates everything. No joke. Behemoths, deathclaws, fog crawlers...everything.
Its insane.
And this quest. Holy fuck it was the single most intresting thing ive ever experienced in a fallout game. Such an intirguing lore.
I agree. Killing Lorenzo is the better option for "good" players. I constantly encountered Lorenzo surrounded by dead ghoul settlers, not ferals, just because he found them fascinating. He's a danger to everyone in the Commonwealth.

For me, without question, this was the best line of quests in the entire game. Sure, only 3 or so quests but each was long and thought out with more bits of info for the back story & with multiple options and outcomes at every step of the way.

I think it's written well because it's not so clear cut which side's truth is actually the truth, though I ended up believing Jack more. The conspiracy that they're just using the father for his blood was a nice twist though.
And I liked Emogeen. I found her well written and relatable. I think her reaction, thoughts, and behaviors are realistic for someone who is immortal with super immunity and who was probably kept from doing interesting things. The boredom, trying to fix it by meeting boys, the happiness of fending someone off because it's probably the first time you've actually gotten to take control and not just sit around, the feeling of superiority that one would get from eternal youth and beauty and the inability to forego it, and the depression that comes with immortality.
Honestly I think everyone is telling the truth in this one as evidenced by how quickly everyone expresses doubts about Jack's motives. Yes, he does finally kill his father but only after he realizes that he's going to to be killed.
Jack tried to cure his father but over time the failure has worn him down and he really is just "going through the motions" ... the exact time frame of when this happened is unknown but I suspect the seeds started from a desire to save his aging mother, both for her sake and his fathers.

With the drug you can further boost stats with psychobuff etc for a net strength of 40. Enough to beat the living shit out of anyone dumb enough to cross you.
On the other hand you could gain God's right hand of unholy justice by killing him. The artifact gun is a ton of fun. Watching deathclaws blast off into space is so satisfying.

Lorenzo truly couldn't sound more evil or less trustworthy, so I side with Jack. Sure 400 years of trying to cure someone is definitely not entirely kosher, but I believe Jack's intentions at least are good.
This is one of the rare side quests in FO4 that rises to the level of New Vegas
Actually a lot of side quests and lore you can find everywhere if you actually try in this game. People under estimate fallout 4 because it's the new game in the series, happens with every game even new Vegas. You people will get over it when the next fallout is here

A selfish side note with helping Lorenzo. The serum will allow you to live a long , and youth life with Shaun [the child] should you let the synth child live. Because if you let the synth child live with you without the serum ; you will age , and die leaving a small boy in a sick world alone. [see - Billy the kid]

Watching this video years later, there’s also a chance of meeting Jack Cabot as a wandering trader later down the road. I encountered him right outside Abernathy Farms. Only way I got it though was freeing Lorenzo and killing him soon after so Jack could spawn at Cabot House. He sells junk and some chems but it’s still interesting to talk to him for the first time, since he says he’ll be traveling to the Mojave
If you side with jack after a wile you can fined him walking on the roads with his guard and he looks really old and tells you that his mum and sister are dead and asked for some parts for something he is building
The artifact and the mysterious serums are things you wouldn't want out in the world. You can imagine the Brotherhood of Steel or the Institute having virtual immortality and a powerful alien tech weapon. This isn't part of the actual game but both factions would certainly seek the Cabots out once they knew about the artifact. The BoS would probably eventually use these advantages to wipe out everybody else, the Institute would become completely unstoppable although immortality would probably be restricted to the senior members of the Institute. While Lorenzo's release doesn't factor into game play there is no reason to believe he'll be anything but a malicious psychopath out in the Commonwealth and there's no reason to believe he wouldn't kill you down the line at some point.
I think Jack Cabot has a tiny bit of altruistic motive in the sense that "saving" his father has been the driving motivation behind his life for centuries. However I don't think any of the Cabot family actually have any regard for Lorenzo has a person. I think if came down to "saving" Lorenzo and losing their immortality in the process they wouldn't "save" him". Emogene is really just a spoiled brat I don't think she has a real developed philosophical regard for her situation or privilege. There might be a small advantage in the long run for Jack Cabot maintaining his research as it could be possible, but highly unlikely, that his research could benefit others. However in more than two centuries since the bombs dropped nobody from the Cabot family has lifted a finger to improve any aspect of the Commonwealth.
So in conclusion, killing Lorenzo protects the Commonwealth from dangerous tech, a virtual god psychopath, and keeps more people alive. You could release him for the short term benefit of well-deserved justice against the Cabot family but you expose the Commonwealth to things that could utterly destroy it.

As interesting as this quest was, there is one thing that bugged me about it, and that was that after it ends, nothing happens. I know Bethesda didn't have the time to focus on one family, but we are talking about over 400 years of potential knowledge. Lorenzo is by far the oldest living being to be known in the Fallout universe, and all he does is give you a serum each time you visit him, and I heard that there is a random encounter where you find him besides a creature he killed, studying it, and that's just it. There should have been more dialogue, maybe some miscellaneous quests or even side quests given by him. With this character I just see so much wasted potential, so many things that could have been done with him.
It's too bad, but the quest was fantastic, in my opinion better than the main story of the game.

Hear me out guys. What if the aliens we've been encountering in Fallout 4 and previous Fallout titles are different from this precursor race and that these aliens are after this older group's technology or knowledge.
It explains the alien showing up in Boston. (Did Lorenzo use his powers to make him crash?)
It explains the presence of that team of Aliens found in New Vegas (with Wild Wasteland on). They were searching for that other lost city.
It could be the reason these Aliens had a fleet orbiting Earth in Mothership Zeta in Fallout 3. Maybe they've been looking for these alien artifacts for centuries. (Hence the Samurai, Cowboy, and Soldier found aboard their ship).
The aliens we encounter are often referred to as "Zetans" and what kind of radiation is the only type that seems to effect Lorenzo and can Dampen his Artifact's abilities? "Zeta" radiation.
what if... these two groups have been at war for millennia and now these zetans seek these artifacts to gain the knowledge these older group has that could give them insight on how to win the war.
Or they could take the boring route and just say this old civilization is the same as these new aliens. and they need their old tech back for some reason.
curtis H I also believe that these are different aliens than we've encountered. The once we know don't really fit to the setting and artisan detail of the crown. They seem less complex than these ancient aliens.
A weird feeling for me is that that crown sounds more like it belongs in the Elder Scrolls series instead, but that's irrelevant.

I don’t own any of the titles from the fallout series, nor have I played them (system and budget limitations), but the lore has always fascinated me. Long story short, this video was expertly done. Voiceovers from you were timed out and balanced perfectly with in game audio. You also spoke clearly and eloquently, so much so that even a layman like myself was able to follow along. Bravo. +1 sub.

From a purely logical perspective, I'd side with Jack every time. It's a "the lesser of two evils" situation. Let's assume that Jack and his family have entirely selfish motivations for keeping Lorenzo locked up and only do so to extend their lives. You have to compare that to what will happen if you side with Lorenzo, who is clearly deranged and psychotic. What Jack and his family are doing (if their motivations are selfish) is entirely contained within their own family. They very rarely involve outsiders in their affairs and it's almost exclusively when they need to hire someone for one reason or another. People do sometimes die in service to the Cabot family, but working for them is probably no more dangerous than being a guard for a caravan or perhaps working for any of the major factions in Fallout 4 (the Commonwealth is a dangerous place, after all).
Lorenzo, on the other hand, clearly has no qualms about murdering anyone and everyone who gets in his way. If Jack had not imprisoned his father when he did, he clearly would have continued killing and committing all sorts of atrocities throughout the centuries. In the age after the bombs fell, if Lorenzo had been free, that would have more than likely made an already horrific situation that much worse.
From a true logic perspective values are subjective things. Choosing the "lesser evil" is not more logic than being egoisitic and killing both of them to take the crown for yourself.
