Would you recommend a certificate program from FIT? I’m currently taking the patternmaking course. I don’t know if it will help me get a sewing job.

the patternmaking certificate course is more geared towards becoming a technical designer, not a seamstress. sewing techniques aren’t taught in pattern making courses and you do very little sewing!
The Associates fashion design program is pretty heavy with the sewing! you’ll be sewing all the time lol
However, if you don’t want to learn the extra stuff (drawing, computer work etc)
I recommend taking only sewing classes (I’m not sure if FIT has a program for only sewing). also see if you can apprentice a tailor!

@@nataliadedios they do have a tailoring certificate I was only taking patternmaking bcus I make clothes and I’m least skilled at that. I really want to have my own clothing line so I was really doing the program to work on my own skills but also would like a job in the meantime sewing I think the tailoring requires more sewing skills maybe I should look more into that. I think if i had both I would be pretty well rounded.

ahh makes sense! then I recommend the associates or bachelors fashion design program if you want to be more well rounded! good luck 🙏🤍
