    Plastic containers were all the rage in my grandparents and parents day. But in the last two decades both my and my parents households have moved away from plastic storage containers entirely, out of concern over long-term degradation of the plastic into the food.
    These days we all use glass containers with plastic snap-on tops. I don't think its tupperware, though. These things are so generic that we don't even care who the manufacturer is. If its food-grade glass, its safe.

    Honestly I'm surprised they've gone on as long as they have. MLM structures depend on regular sales so the sellers gain commissions, which is most conducive to dealing with consumables, and Tupperware is not a consumable product. What I also think is interesting is that the memestock phenomenon has added another huge and unpredictable risk to stock shorting.

    • @KnakuanaRka
      @KnakuanaRka 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that’s what especially baffles me about some MLMs. The whole concept is a mess in general, but at least those selling consumables like health supplements or cosmetics have a chance of getting repeat sales; things like Lululemon’s clothes, Cutco’s knives, Kirby vacuums, etc don’t get that, so good luck constantly looking farther afield for new customers.

    It's kind of a shock that Tupperware would be struggling, but then I guess that while its product is a very good product, that means lots of competition, so that most of the things I've used that are "tupperware" are not actually Tupperware. They're similar products from everyone from Glad to Rubbermaid, especially Rubbermaid. That's gotta suck for them as a company. They weren't even wrong. They just turned from Kleenex into kleenex, and that's why we avoid that.

    With all the short seller hate perhaps you can interview a few? Marc Cohodes and John Hempton Perhaps. I believe they provide a great service for the economy
    Hempton and you would have an interesting insight as non American investors.

    You cutely called them a "direct to consumer" business, but dear, they're an MLM. And for that reason, I'm happy they're crumbling. If there are any other publicly traded MLM's, I hope this also happens to them. What an amazing way to take them down, since the government is too damn infested with people protecting them.

    Is there a way to keep a healthy public traded business from being taken over then loaded up with debt by the likes of Bain Capital? So many of these companies that should be making money have debt forced upon them and then die when they experience some shocks they would have been able to survive otherwise. Although I'm sure it's good for globe traveling billionaire I think it's bad for the country.

    Today people wants containers made of glass and metal instead.
    It has shown that eating your warm lunch in a plastic container might be bad for your longterm health.
    Besides glass and metal survives better in the dishwasher.

    Something else to consider is that newer research suggests (or shows) that warming up food in/on plastic is not healthy, as the plastic leeches into the food. Folks move to alternatives, the most popular being glass, that is just as airtight - though a bit heavier.
    Plastic lasting forever is great, and it works well to store cold, non-acidic foods, but I think as more research concludes the adverse effects of warming food in plastic containers, bowls, or plates: more folks will walk away from the product.
    Pretty sure Tupperware's days are numbered from that fact alone, the idea now being to hope to squeeze out a small gain since they will bankrupt and that (in bankruptcy) the purchasing entity must pay a stock price higher than whatever investors purchased it for.

      @meneldal ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I think it could turn in a very good selling point. I haven't done any experiments, but my intuition would be that a container that lasts longer leeches a lot less plastic than a cheap one. If they do serious experiments and can show they leech like 10 times less plastic or the compounds are less toxic it could turn out great for them. Even more if they get California to put in standards for leeching limits only their products follow.

    Great video! I think short squeezes actually helps early investors/bagholders to sell their stock for a little more. It would not surprise me that short squeeze reallies are initiated by backholders or the same short sellers who inversed their position.

    The way that the stock market function needs to change because the stock price seems to be heavily dictated by supply and demand alone instead of how the company actually performs. It wouldn't surprise me if this what has been happening lately with the AI rally because it hasn't been proven to actually generate true value yet.

    • @BogdanSass
      @BogdanSass ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't just "seem to be" - the price is dictated only by supply and demand. This is pretty much the definition of the stock market, and the way it was designed to be :)
