Life saver man! Sitting here fighting with needle nose for 45 minutes before I thought, someone smarter than me has found a way without snap ring pliers. Here you are so thank you, worked like a charm!
I needed a tool to put on a small snap ring to keep the passenger foot pegs on a motorcycle. In my case I had to find a small enough nail to fit through the holes. It took a little convincing, but man it worked. Thanks for the great idea!!
Needed to replace the lower ball joint on my truck. I had the part, all the correct tools, even snap ring plier. I pull everything apart and get to the point I need to remove the retaining ring. Well what ya know, the freaking anap ring pliers do not open enough to remove the retaining ring. I only have the one vehicle so I'm screwed. I will try this in the morning! Thanks.
trying to fix a wheel and this is the first time I’ve ever encountered a snap ring thingy but of course you need another special tool to remove it. I’ll try your tip for free first:)
This is a good idea but it wasnt really working for me. What worked, in the end, was: I used a clamp to hold the snap ring in place and then I used an x acto knife to push the ring towards the crevice.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. Short, to the point, usable solution. Thanks!

Thanks, man. I bought some shitty Irwin snap ring pliers from Lowes, and they were way too flimsy. I tried this, and it worked like a charm.
Works perfect, just used it on a large lock ring. Many thanks

MY MAN….. (Denzel voice)
Good for *opening* a snap ring. But not for *closing* one as is sometimes needed for inside-diameter rings.
