The difference between my 155hp and 215hp was ridiculous. I would never buy a low HP jet ski, acceleration is way more important than cruising or top speed. The most fun is jumping waves, and you need instant torque for that. It’s why I go with naturally aspirated instead of supercharged . Kawasaki 160x does it all.

My thought was that the 130 would end up being more reliable long-term because the engine isn't working at max capacity. It's an $1,800 difference between the 2, about 5 mph and a 40 hp difference. Very minimal difference in price so you might as well go for the 170. It really would come down to color preference really. I'm 6'1, 230 lbs and I can stand on 1 running board with full weight on my 14 GTI so the new hull makes no difference in weight ratio.

It's really weird to see a 130 HP only achieve that top speed. My 2 stroke 1998 GTX ran an honest 54MPH at high altitude lakes, ( the slowest recorded) and upper 60's at sea level. This was tried & true using other professional ski boats speed input for accuracy. Thanks for the videos, enjoy them!

I personally HATE that seadoo has limited the new ones so much that the 130 will only do 50 and the 170 will barely do 55. I feel the 170 could easily be a 60 mph machine with a impeller and tune. I will be watching to see how well the polytec 2 holds up and what tunes the aftermarket will come out with. I wouldn't be surprised if with a tune the 130 could easily be a 55+ mph machine. it will be interesting to see how Seadoo has locked down the tuning.
@@nametaken2392 not really. they ask for HP for watercraft and i told them 130 for the 130 and 141 or 142 for the 155. the 155 is not 155hp based on a lot of online reading i have done.
I had a quick question. I am contemplating between two new PWC and would like to see your opinion between the two. The two I have narrowed it down to are the Sea-doo GTX 170 or the Yamaha FX Cruiser HO. I value handling, comfort, and acceleration the most. I ride in light chop often and occasionally moderate chop or wake jumping. Would love to hear your opinion.
I'm a big dude myself, would you choose the GTI over the Kawasaki STX 160X? Just the obvious power increase in the Kawasaki for a bigger person sounds more appealing. This is mainly for typical lake use. Thanks for your input!
Never had a sea doo. Complete novice. Almost 60 yrs old but looking for a sea doo for my siblings all.over 50 yrd old to enjoy. Your review was detailed and simple to understand. Thank you so very much!!!! The beginners key would be mine for sure..lol
GPH is everything. Having 4 skis gas adds up QUICK. 55 mph on my yamahas, ok sure could get a 65mph model, but 8 gallons per hour wide open vs 15-22 gallons per hour screw that. Once you are on the water having fun, your'e not paying attention to top speed. 10mph diff is nothing so stop freaking out people and enjoy your time. If you want 65 mph you have to look at super charged, but then you're looking at premium fuel and that's another level altogether.
Maybe it’s just me but being in a boat always feels WAY faster than your really going. 50mph feels like 80 to me lol. I’m sure the slowest jet ski would be plenty fast for this old land lover 👍🏼 Fastest I went was 70mph in uncles nitro bass boat with 200hp mercury. I thought I was going to die!
Agreed. I once had a ride in a twin big block fountain boat on lake st. Clair and at 80+ mph my life flashed before my eyes. I felt like about 200 mph on the highway.
I had the 2017 130 and the wife had the 2017 90, guess who was mad every time "who" got passed... also the 90 is a smaller engine as the 130 and 170 are the same engine.
We have two sea doos, GTI 130 SE and usually don’t travel much over 35 mph for an extended period of time. We have fibreglass hulls and my top speed is 54 mph. You won’t be on the lake very long if you run wide open.
My 2017 GTI 130 will do 57 mph on Glass. I Love It. Next Ski Will Be Yamaha or Kawasaki. And I Will Keep The Seadoo. Almost Bought a Spark. Thank God I Didn't.
Yes to me about 300 pounds total weight seems like it is the best weight for performance. I have given rides to various size people and notice more speed with them on back. The bigger they are the faster it goes. My guess is the jetpump is submerged more and fills up the intake with no cavitation so more power is produced. I have noticed this.
Unless you live on the water it's pretty hard to get a pwc between places without a car. Focus on getting a car and better PT job before one of these. If you're broke you won't be maintaining it right anyway. Do well in college good things will come later.
in my opinion, i would choose the GTI 170 SE because of the better acceleration, and he hit 5 MPH faster compared to the 130 SE. Also, the base 130 SE is $10,799 USD and the 170 SE with the Bluetooth sound system is 12,199. So for an extra $1,400 USD (w/o tax) you get better performance and bluetooth system, that in my opinion is worth it. And yes you can get the sound system on the 130 SE as well but for the small price difference, it just makes sense to opt for the faster motor.
Would the 130hp be enough to get out of my marina inlet with some incoming rough waves? Or is it worthy to go for the 170hp? I don't care very much for top speed, i'm more a safety fan, thanks.
I’ve always thought it would fun to travel rivers on a jet ski. Is it even possible-legal?? Like riding the Mississippi River from its source all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. Pack some stuff like on a motorcycle trip and go. I know guys do it on canoes 🛶

Just get the ecu re-mapped and a re-pitched impeller. About $500. The 130 will have more snap and higher top speed compared to its stock form. Then again the 170 is only $600 more
On the old 155 and 130, the 130 had a different cam and injectors. I wonder if the same is true on the 1600cc engine and it’s not just a different ecu tune.
Do you still have your old GTI? How many hours on it. How’s it running now? Anything you want to share about it? Would you consider an update on the ski as you have ridden it? With some dos & don’t. And or maybe some must haves.
How much is a replacement Hull ? Half the MSRP ? 1/3 ? 🤨 Stuff like that would nice of you to report at the time of these "reviews". 170HP for sure, is nice to have it a not use it than finding yourself in need of it and not having it.
Sea Doo Jet Ski's from the 90's early 2000's were Nimble Light Weight machine ....now they are Heavy Bulky floating Harley's and GoldWings in the Water ...2Stroke Era hands down ....
Agree new ones are huge in comparison to that era, and cosmic colors on many don't do much for me. Had a 1995 GTX. 85HP, did 47mph and was OK for slalom skiing (180lb) without ripping turns. That 1995 GTX was fun on the water, and EZ to maintain/store. Progress is Progress, but I'd be happy with something similar to that 1995 GTX.
Can either the 130 or 170 pull a skier or wakeboarder? Is it legal w/o a 3rd seat ? If not, is there a light-weight Seadoo (with the plastic hull), that can pull a skier [I have a lightweight aluminum trailer, so I'd rather stick with low weight]
Thinking about buying awake. 80% of the time dragging two or three teenage boys on a flotation device. Is it worth getting the big one to be able to haul two or three at a time?
hey man great video however when you did the top speed run on the 130 your vts/ trim was all the way down meaning the machine couldn't plane off the water all the way when i rode a 130 with the trim/ vts up I hit 58
Again, another great watercraft review video! I love the in depth analysis of all aspects of the product and these reviews are better than some of the watercraft specific media outlets....just saying
Yamaha wave runners are great machines. But seadoo in my opinion is way ahead on innovation. With the linq system trim breaking system. New hull design and better stability. Yamaha's really do tip easy compared to the gti. I'm buying a gti 170 before next summer.
Family planning on getting a seadoo and it will be three of us riding on it at same time. I am 180 and she is 110 and our child is 45 pounds. Which would be better?
A fantastic video, thanks! :) Since my wife and I are both looking to purchase our first Sea-Doo, I'm thinking the 170 might be better to "haul" both of us versus a 130 for just one of us. Perhaps the next one will be the 130 to go alongside the 170. :D I even thought about a 230 but prefer to stay away from supercharging for our first vessel. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the in depth review. What are your thoughts on towing? I don't think these models are suited for adults wakeboarding, but I was thinking more along the lines of a float tube of some sort.
@@wasupfool5692 I heard that tuning the 130 only gives you a top speed of 52 mph and not worth the $2,000 it costs to tune. Can you tell me how true that is? I have a 2019 GTI SE 130
I put deposit on the 130 about month ago and hoping to get it at end of august but said probably won’t be in until September . They said it’s gonna be marked as 2021 bc so late in season.
Despite the difference in top speed and everything else in between (the bells and whistles), what I find a bit sweeter is my model jet ski model. The elder 10' or 11' GTI SE 130 can hit 61 to 64 mph. It obviously doesn't have sport or eco mode but the acceleration is pretty intense. While cruising in the 60's mph is very good for a water craft and years of use..it seems kinda slow compared to the newer skis that top between 65 to 78. *Don't get me wrong those are very nice skis that has/have all the latest features and I do like that a lot. My only downfall is the lighter engines inside that's 130 or 170 hp.
HP vs. torque? Well 170 HP at 55 is not impressive or even 57 mph IMO. I would buy the torque of an inline four from Yamaha, torque is what wins a race because it simple & easily pumps the dense water.
No. We've found that it's best to leave them in at most for a weekend. Then we take them out and air dry them out to get rid of all condensation. We've found multiple issues resulting from leaving them in the water for long periods of time.

How much does top speed factor into insurance cost? Even worth considering?
@@nametaken2392 not really. they ask for HP for watercraft and i told them 130 for the 130 and 141 or 142 for the 155. the 155 is not 155hp based on a lot of online reading i have done.
I had a quick question. I am contemplating between two new PWC and would like to see your opinion between the two. The two I have narrowed it down to are the Sea-doo GTX 170 or the Yamaha FX Cruiser HO. I value handling, comfort, and acceleration the most. I ride in light chop often and occasionally moderate chop or wake jumping. Would love to hear your opinion.
Hopefully you went with the reliable as hell Yamaha
Great review as always Steve! Man PWCs are so fun. Sadly I’m in MN so I have like 3 days to use them before we are in a blizzard the rest of the time
Just curious, what did you have to do to achieve 75mph out of your 2015 130?
Supercharger
“If you put a hole in this thing you just replace the entire hull” Wtf? How is that a good thing?
Maybe it’s just me but being in a boat always feels WAY faster than your really going. 50mph feels like 80 to me lol. I’m sure the slowest jet ski would be plenty fast for this old land lover 👍🏼
Fastest I went was 70mph in uncles nitro bass boat with 200hp mercury. I thought I was going to die!
Agreed. I once had a ride in a twin big block fountain boat on lake st. Clair and at 80+ mph my life flashed before my eyes. I felt like about 200 mph on the highway.
Would love to see a compare between the gti 90 vs 130 Great video.
I had the 2017 130 and the wife had the 2017 90, guess who was mad every time "who" got passed... also the 90 is a smaller engine as the 130 and 170 are the same engine.
@@normanhenderson9290 lol I got the 2021 Seadoo se 130
Dude .. you have the best job on Earth lol
Advice needed: GTI 170 SE or GTX 170 STD?
We have two sea doos, GTI 130 SE and usually don’t travel much over 35 mph for an extended period of time. We have fibreglass hulls and my top speed is 54 mph. You won’t be on the lake very long if you run wide open.
Hi sir. Can you do review on 2020 sea doo GTX 170. Thank you
My 2017 GTI 130 will do 57 mph on Glass. I Love It. Next Ski Will Be Yamaha or Kawasaki. And I Will Keep The Seadoo. Almost Bought a Spark. Thank God I Didn't.
I have hit 56 mph quite a few times on smooth water on my 2019 130 se.
Same, on a flat lake I can hit 54-55 on my '16 130 pretty easily.
To those posting higher MPH than this test, does rider weight factor much? Tester is a big guy.
@@nametaken2392 i would assume that, yes it matters. Fyi. I weigh 225lbs.
Been saving for 4 years for one of these. Only at $1,000 since I gotta pay for college but I hope this is worth it lol. I don't even have a car yet.
Number1HockeyPlaya heads in the wrong place..
Unless you live on the water it's pretty hard to get a pwc between places without a car. Focus on getting a car and better PT job before one of these. If you're broke you won't be maintaining it right anyway. Do well in college good things will come later.
At that rate you will be able to get one by the time you are 35.
My uncle saw this video and bought a 170 because of you thanks
in my opinion, i would choose the GTI 170 SE because of the better acceleration, and he hit 5 MPH faster compared to the 130 SE.
We love your reviews!!
Keep up great stuff
Yesss! I just bought the 2020 GTI 130 SE
Pandacat 666 yes I already have it I’m just waiting for it to warm up!
Noah Johnson what color and how did u get it so soon?
Caleb Moore I got the Blue and grey, it was available already in my city, I got it at Reno’s Powersport in Kansas City
I just got a blue one too.. in NY
CleanSlateForge. Nice!
I’ve always thought it would fun to travel rivers on a jet ski. Is it even possible-legal?? Like riding the Mississippi River from its source all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. Pack some stuff like on a motorcycle trip and go. I know guys do it on canoes 🛶
I want to try the "Great Loop" on a jetski. (There are many routes to go.) I want to drop in in St. Louis.
Peety Dontpass what is the great loop?? I dunno what it is but it sounds fun lol 👍🏼
@@JohnnyRebKy it is an adventure that circles the eastern U.S. using a series of waterways intercoastal waterway erie canal and the great lakes. It can be 5K or 9K miles long. Start in St Louis. End in St. Louis. Look it up to explain more.
Peety Dontpass cool thanks!! Sounds like a blast!
@@peetydontpass8309 I am wanting to go from Hannibal to Paducah as soon as I get brave enough. I was planning on buying a boat for that but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. I just started thinking about it on my GTI.
Just get the ecu re-mapped and a re-pitched impeller. About $500. The 130 will have more snap and higher top speed compared to its stock form. Then again the 170 is only $600 more
I say if you’re already paying that much, might as well pay $600 more for 40 more horses.
Awesome video brother, super helpful but also just entertaining 👏🏼
On the old 155 and 130, the 130 had a different cam and injectors. I wonder if the same is true on the 1600cc engine and it’s not just a different ecu tune.
Do you still have your old GTI? How many hours on it. How’s it running now? Anything you want to share about it? Would you consider an update on the ski as you have ridden it? With some dos & don’t. And or maybe some must haves.
Same engines.... get the 130, spend a couple hundred and get ECU flash, then you have a 170... Obviously. Same with Sparks 60/90hp models.
I have the gti se 155 can I add the ECU ?
Manuel Jaramillo yes
But can you toggle between hp like you can with a sport mode equipped model?
How much is a replacement Hull ? Half the MSRP ? 1/3 ? 🤨 Stuff like that would nice of you to report at the time of these "reviews".
170HP for sure, is nice to have it a not use it than finding yourself in need of it and not having it.
JIGA BACHI exactly I was wondering if someone would mention that it’s not worth having a plastic haul if it’s just gonna cost more to be fixed
I’m sure it’s crazy expensive to replace
love that you guys are doing pwc reviews ! can we get into some bayliner boats and that type of thing too
Finally A big dude reviewing! Tired of the 130lb jockeys.
How much does a hull replacement cost?
NameTaken2 we’ve gone full throttle on out 95 gts and it sure doesn’t feel like 50 sometimes more but it does depend on how calm the water is
Good info next time can you show wich one its best for pulling a tube. 👍🍺🍺🍺
What would you recommend: Seadoo gti 170 se 2021 or Yamaha vx cruiser ho 2021 for salt and rough water use only (sea, ocean)
Many thanks
Thinking about buying awake. 80% of the time dragging two or three teenage boys on a flotation device. Is it worth getting the big one to be able to haul two or three at a time?
Thx for sharing this. In your option would you go with the 170 wake or the GTX 170 ST3 hull?
Txs for nice review. Looking to buy the 2021 170 version. Can you do waterski or pull a balloon ? What do you need to buy as accessories ?
Great video! Nice attention to detail.
When you are doing a top speed run always put the vts up all the way but never do that on a spark trixx
hey man great video however when you did the top speed run on the 130 your vts/ trim was all the way down meaning the machine couldn't plane off the water all the way when i rode a 130 with the trim/ vts up I hit 58
Again, another great watercraft review video! I love the in depth analysis of all aspects of the product and these reviews are better than some of the watercraft specific media outlets....just saying
I have a 2015 155 and love it. Great overview of the 2020s. You have a sub from me.
Would 2017 be the same as the 2015 you owned? Or where they changed?
Hi Estev question I’m in the dilemma to buy new Jetske‘s which do you guys recommend more Yamaha or seadoo
Yamaha wave runners are great machines. But seadoo in my opinion is way ahead on innovation. With the linq system trim breaking system. New hull design and better stability. Yamaha's really do tip easy compared to the gti. I'm buying a gti 170 before next summer.
Wondering what to buy 130 gti or trixx 90 as first jet ski
Great video, would love one on the gtx 230
Thanks for the info can you make a comparison on the seadoo 170 2022 vs the 2022 Yamaha Waverunner . 👍🍺🍺🍺🇺🇲
I've been in pwcs all my life if you want a supercharged one keep a naturally aspirated one for when it's in the shop trust me
What would be the fuel amount used differ,,yes i know driving styles will change things but just all around
I get sea-doo notifications from tfl and it's -5C outside in Toronto. How about some winter camping/ winter offroad truck videos instead?
We're trying to help you think warmer thoughts!
Plus, if you want wintry videos, we've got plenty of those: th-cam.com/video/5xQuwSoFRwc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the in depth review.
What are your thoughts on towing? I don't think these models are suited for adults wakeboarding, but I was thinking more along the lines of a float tube of some sort.
Save the $600, go with the 130....then, map tune it from Riva Racing and you've basically got yourself a GTR 230!
I don't know what this means but I'm interested.
@@STnSHtube the only difference in machines is the tune programed into the computer buy the cheaper one and get an aftermarket tune
@@wasupfool5692 I heard that tuning the 130 only gives you a top speed of 52 mph and not worth the $2,000 it costs to tune. Can you tell me how true that is? I have a 2019 GTI SE 130
No you do not basically have a 230. The 230 is Supercharged. Not just a tuning difference.
I put deposit on the 130 about month ago and hoping to get it at end of august but said probably won’t be in until September . They said it’s gonna be marked as 2021 bc so late in season.
I have a brand new 2020 Gti 170. Tilts to the left a lot
Why do you try and make it sound like replacing the entire hull is better than patching some glass? Am I missing something?
i want a fast sea doo with good fuel economy. what would someone recommend
A rxt 230
I've got a question a little off base but is it OK leaving a sea doo 4 tec in the water for a week or 2 without taking it out
No. We've found that it's best to leave them in at most for a weekend. Then we take them out and air dry them out to get rid of all condensation. We've found multiple issues resulting from leaving them in the water for long periods of time.
Hi mate im from aus can you do a comparison review with the gtr230 vs the gtx230 comparing top speed, handling, srability 0-60 time, storage, technology, accessories, hull comparieson
Hey Buddy, Love your videos. I’m about to get a 2019 GTI 130 but I’m concerned about the carbon seal and Seadoo reliability in general. What are your thoughts. Have you had to do the carbon seal on yours yet ?
We have an 08 seadoo rxt 215 and have never had an issue sea soo has great reliability
I would get the 130 and flash the firmware to the 170, if it's possible.
Should I upgrade from a 2019 130 gti to a 2022 gti se 170?
