  • Sand is such a pleasure to work with. As you can see, the roots are very robust, and the sand just falls off upon removal.
In the case where the two plants have become joined, they separate very easily.
As mentioned near the end of the video, be mindful of heat and direct sun whenever working with seedlings and cuttings. It's best to do this in the late afternoon or on overcast days where they can acclimate. Once potted, shady conditions or dappled sun is recommended to reduce shock.

Nice! What starts very well in sand other than fava? It’s all clay soil here but I can get some sand from the beach. Would probably need to rinse to get salt out. Thanks so much for sharing. This is a much cheaper medium for starts than seed starter mix 👍🏻👍🏻

Besides certain seed that should be direct sown like corn and others, almost everything does well in sand. It's especially good for propagating cuttings. It's completely free once you have it and works over and again.
Definitely rinse any beach sand thoroughly. I also have heavy clay soil here. Clay is excellent once it's mulched for a few years as it holds onto moisture longer than sandy soil and also holds onto nutrients and organic matter. It's just a matter of making it workable, which mulch does very easily. Happy New Year Skittles!
