Love this video. My mother lives in Columbia, and I flew into COU from ORD for the first time in July or August 2014. I actually kinda liked the small size of the airport...easy in, easy out. In fact, I flew the same 6am flight time on my return, but thankfully there were no delays. Great video!!! I wasn't really a fan of the landing approach into COU on my flight, but aside from that, I enjoyed it. Thanks for bringing back the memory :)
The hydraulic pump makes that noise when the #1 engine is shut down, not #2. The nose wheel steering runs off the #1 engine hydraulic pump so if it's shut down, the backup pump kicks on.
23:40 I think that’s the whole name. The Club Quarters River Hotel because-its literally right by the River and there’s more than 1 Club Quarters Hotel in the US. This is just called the Club Quarters River Hotel. It’s almost saying like the Days Inn Norfolk Airport for example
Update: United starts flying from Columbia, MO to Denver, CO and Chicago, IL. Tailslandian Cross Country does turboprop flights from Columbia, MO to Greenville/Spartanburg, Columbia, and Charleston, all of the 3 airports are in SC.
I see that United Express is coming to Columbia airport in August bringing service to Chicago O Hare and Denver. At least this airport will know have a choice of two commercial airlines and three total destinations.
Nice trip report. This one definitely had more adventure in it thanks to the delay caused by the fog. What month did you travel? It did not look cold outside and usually fog does not form when it is hot. I am looking forward to the hotel review and hopefully some transit videos from this trip. For such a grand looking hotel, the rooms are sure small, unless they have many different sized rooms at different prices. The only thing that needs a little bit of improvement is to add some more music like the last trip report (NYC).
3 different cameras. Depends on which part of the video you're talking about. Car and hotel were shot on the Handycam. Flight and public transit on the TX-20. Shoulder-cam was the Veho MUVI.
It would be a little too bulky. I use my current shoulder cam because waving a camera in people's faces while boarding a plane can be a little awkward. It's very small and blends right into my backpack.
For future reference, no whether you think you're lost or not, always, always, ALWAYS use a GPS (I understand they're not the most trustable sources but you have to use something).
That APU sounds terrible, i'll take the Airbus's barking dog anyday! Anyway great video, despite everything glad you got a ride on the E140. Oh, and while you never see any Jetblue, being on the East Coast (back in forth now between Connecticut and Florida) you see nothing but them :)
No one really seemed to care. I've had a few people sitting next to me ask about it in the past. Once I explain what I'm doing a little, they generally don't mind.
Its actually the #1 engine that either gets started last or shut down first. I read in a blog from a ERJ F/O that it has something to do with power to the front wheel steering. (geardownclearedtoland.blogspot.com) The engine that is on the left side (A seats) is the #1 engine.
Hey I was wondering if you could give me some info on Chicago I want to go to a cubs game with my wife and daughter but don't no where to stay and not have bed bugs but want to take train from Indy to Chicago but how do you get to the park from where u stayed thanks for info if u can
Ryan Belden Easy just go to State Street and take the CTA Red Line from State and Lake going towards Howard Street and get off at Addison and you'll be at Wrigley Field. I live in Chicago on the CTA Red Line near Howard Street CTA Red Purple and Yellow Lines Station so you're getting your directions from someone who knows his way around Chicago. Hope you enjoy the game.
When you depart and arrive in Chicago late like that. That's alright. I believe in this important cliche. It's better late than never. Wouldn't you agree?
Off topic rant: You know I really hate the automatic play button. Because I had a comment all ready to post on here until the damn screen changed. Story of my life I guess. ANYWAY... Hey you edit it Final cut? That's cool! I edit in Adobe Premiere Pro. @0:03-Hey I have to wake up at about that time every Thursday too get catch the train in the morning to school! Imagine how I feel lol... @5:04-I remember traveling on those types of planes when I was a baby. @07:15-(Slaps head, sarcastically laughs) Oh man, i'm sorry! Hope your trip was a good one!!!!! Thanks! Trip was a lot of fun. I never realized what a nice city Chicago is. Not too surprising since everyone in St. Louis trash talks it :). One of my friends recently landed in Chicago with a St. Louis-based Southwest Airlines crew. Their announcement on arrival was "Welcome to Chicago, home of the 1908 world champion Cubs!"
Thanks! Ready for a long, fun story? I like to call my family's experience with this airport the "Columbia Curse". It's so convenient, yet every trip we've done through here has turned into a disaster. 1998: A privately chartered jet by the company my dad works for had a mechanical failure, so they had to cancel their trip and lost a big contract. 2002-ish: My grandparent's flight in from St. Louis was cancelled, which meant we had to drive 4 hours round-trip to pick them up. 2005-ish: My dad was delayed by a thunderstorm, missing his connecting flight in St. Louis. 2010: My dad's flight in from Memphis was cancelled, causing him to spend over 32 HOURS in the Memphis airport trying to get home. 2011: My flight to NYC (connecting in Memphis) was delayed for over 5 hours due to a flat tire. And now, 2014: A 3-hour ground delay due to fog. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME... DISASTER in Columbia. I've given up. Thankfully I live in St. Louis now, so I don't have to deal with this place very often anymore. When when I lived in Jefferson City full time with my parents, we usually just drove 2-hours to St. Louis to avoid dealing with this airport. We keep giving it another chance, but it always ends like this.
That's crazy! I guess I've been lucky...but I don't fly as much as you do either. The only major snafu I've had with air travel was on my trip to Las Vegas in 2013 via Southwest Airlines. Plane departed Kansas City three hours behind schedule (undisclosed reason) and our bags were sent to Florida... I know everyone else loves Southwest Airlines, but I'm afraid to try them out again.
thewildeeper It can happen on any airline, but you flew Southwest during one of the toughest parts of their history. To sum it up quickly, some genius at corporate thought they could squeeze the equivalent of 16 new planes worth of flying out of their existing fleet by making schedules tighter. The result was that their on-time rankings plummeted, and their antiquated reservation system couldn't revert to the old schedule without months of work. The issue has since been resolved if that makes you feel any better.
thewildeeper hey Jeff I was seeing if you could film the hydraulic elevator in the graduate life center because I like it better than the tractions. Don't you have a card so you can go up to 4
I have a TH-cam channel called the loud house but it's me Lincoln loud I hate hydraulic pumps one time I flew American eagle airlines that hydraulic pump was loud I couldn't take it anymore im never flying American eagle airlines
And I hate hydraulic pumps in American eagle airlines I these are old school planes I like the new planes but theses hydraulic pumps sound like a tornado siren and a little girl screaming out loud like farting or having a little baby I hate American eagle airlines
The E140s engine startup sound is amazing! Ever heard it from the outside?
No
4:20 in the morning 😏
MidnightBlood17 420 watcha smoking
excellent job.
Sean Brosnan I think it’s a brand new service yes

I still can't get over how FANTASTIC you edited this! You are starting to be a pro at Final Cut Pro!
I watch this vid all the time I love the channel

Oh yeah and thanks for visiting my city! Hope too catch you again soon!

22:00 that holiday in ive stayed at and it is very nice its usually like 130 a night tho without flight
Hey Jacob, what's the song at the beginning of the video while you're driving? 1:11
Yeah the ones on the river walk I was talking about. I originally thought only one of those existed there. Lol.
I see that United Express is coming to Columbia airport in August bringing service to Chicago O Hare and Denver. At least this airport will know have a choice of two commercial airlines and three total destinations.
Fantech0104 it’s like HPN getting expanded

Welcome to my city! Hope you have a nice stay.
Very enjoyable! Sucks though you had to wait in Columbia for a long time!
I have a question? Why did the ERJ-140 retired out of American Eagle?
always double check tv monitors when connecting even though the flight attendant said your connecting gate because it could of been read wrong
Look over to the far right at 24:41 thats one of the two Kone glass elevators near the Trump Tower
The ones on the riverwalk? I actually filmed those.
I love the song at the beginning of the video
Well, definitely didn't expect to see the hometown airport on TH-cam.
was this shot on the handycam?

Why are you constantly skipping?! I love to see more parts of the flight and landing!
Love your videos
i remember in omaha april 2008 sat on the taxiway for like an hour due to fog omaha eppley airfield is located right next to the Missouri River
I was in Chicago only five days after that concert. Lol.
I enjoyed the video thanks
For future reference, no whether you think you're lost or not, always, always, ALWAYS use a GPS (I understand they're not the most trustable sources but you have to use something).
16:17-I'd trade jetBlue for American at TF Green IN A SECOND!
Nice job on the video Jacob
Love this video like all ways
Can we get more cabin views?
TheElevatorchannel what song is that in the intro
Whats an american airlines flight without constant delays?
The engine of American eagle airlines sounds familiar like a tornado siren means a tornado warning
YOu win dude. Funniest flight I have ever seen. Get at 4 am to go to the airport for 6 am departure. 3.5hrs delay. ha ha ha
No reversers on landing. Interesting.
4:20 in the morning
nice
What were you doing in columbia ,Ohio?
Greg Yokota Columbia, Missouri. Closest airport to where my parents live.
***** Okay?
The Explore Master he gave you your answer
Having 2 wait 2 hours on the taxiway?! Wow! At that point, I would just ask to leave the plane! 😂😂 WOW! I feel so bad 4 u!
So in 2013 American and US airways merged and American changed their livery but didn't retire and rebrand the US airways planes until 2015.
fog is tough to drive in luckily it was late
Love this! Was it a pretty choppy ride?
I love that hydraulic whine..especially on the ATRs.
Good video. I hate to say it but I would be too afraid to take videos like this. Did you have anyone say anything to you?
No one really seemed to care. I've had a few people sitting next to me ask about it in the past. Once I explain what I'm doing a little, they generally don't mind.
Nice. Subscribed
Hi I love your videos
Lovin' that hydraulic whine!
Welcome to my city!
I hated that dreaded Hydraulic Pump After the Landing
From 0:09 to 0:35
H
What kind of shoulder cam were you using?
A Veho MUVI VCC-003 clipped to my backpack.
But the Plane Startup Sounded Like a Tornado Siren
That's unfortunate that you had to wait so long for the fog to clear... oh well, better safe than sorry.
Exactly
I hate the hydraulics!
Lets go blues
Will you stop putting these Blues comments in every vid???
Try listening to an airbus PTU aka the barking dog
Been there, done that. The ERJ whine is far worse. Though I love almost everything else about the plane.
ERJ's Have the worst Hydraulics whines. Some E175's have it as well, watch out!
Do you have fog lights?
Yep. I got some use out of them on this trip.
Its actually the #1 engine that either gets started last or shut down first. I read in a blog from a ERJ F/O that it has something to do with power to the front wheel steering. (geardownclearedtoland.blogspot.com) The engine that is on the left side (A seats) is the #1 engine.
Matt Pouy 8 1/2 years on the plane as a pilot. The #1 engine gets started first 99.9999% of the time, not the #2.

When you depart and arrive in Chicago late like that. That's alright. I believe in this important cliche. It's better late than never.
Wouldn't you agree?
You know. I sometimes hate delayed flights, but I still love airplanes.
wow a trip to nowhere for 3 and a half hours boring 😴😪
Yup. :P
I don't like the shoulder cam.
22:22 woah!

I live in Chicago
it is fine I am okay with the "clumsy" footage
ENGINE START SOUNDS LIKE A TORNADO SIREN
Live Orange AKA David's and Up and Down Productions so does a 777's GE engines when they start the take off roll.
It is missouri so... lmao
Too bad they didn't serve anything on the flight.
0:48 "DRIVING me crazy" hahaha
Omg glad it's over not that hydraulic pump on American eagle airlines because it annoying
This is messed up
They shut down the engine of the plane
2 things...
Have you ever been on JetBlue?
What is your favorite type/model of airplane?
Wow what a terrible flight experience :( Well done with the editing though!

I think Andrew will be coming by soon...maybe we can repay a visit to that elevator!
Man I don't like that hydraulic pump it sounds like a little boy screaming out
Tarnesha Lloyd kind of figured that out after the 20th time you said that
Regional jet
That's the epic fail one
I like. Your. Plain votos
I hate when that happens
200th like 😍
I come in the name of Hanny Hakim.
Hey the elevator channel
I have a TH-cam channel called the loud house but it's me Lincoln loud I hate hydraulic pumps one time I flew American eagle airlines that hydraulic pump was loud I couldn't take it anymore im never flying American eagle airlines
American Eagle rebranded to Envoy (US Airways Business kind of for International trans atlantic flights)
I rather fly Southwest Airlines and united airlines and delta airlines
Tarnesha Lloyd it is not american airlines fault
Why? Delta has more planes and has more mainline planes than united
"Well this is depressing"😂😂
And I hate hydraulic pumps in American eagle airlines I these are old school planes I like the new planes but theses hydraulic pumps sound like a tornado siren and a little girl screaming out loud like farting or having a little baby I hate American eagle airlines
It's stupid
