First up, I stumbled upon a remarkable find - an old two-bladed USA Camillus knife manufactured between 1946 and 1950. Its exquisite craftsmanship and rich history make it a true collector's item. Next in line was a USA Gerber 625, known for its exceptional quality and durability. It's always a thrill to discover such sought-after American-made knives!
But the surprises didn't end there. Among my discoveries was a USA Schrade 47OT, showcasing the timeless design and superior performance that Schrade is renowned for. And to top it all off, I stumbled upon an exceptional 1967 Camillus Vietnam Era US Air Force Pilot Survival's Knife. This rare piece of history is a testament to the resilience of our brave pilots. Lastly, the pawn shop even threw in a J. Marttiini fillet knife made in Finland - a superb addition to any angler's arsenal.
In this video, I'll delve into the unique features, history, and significance behind each knife, giving you an insider's look into the world of vintage blades. You won't want to miss the details and stories I share!

On your Camillus pilot’s knife, the two holes on hand guard are so you can tie it to a pole to make a spear with it.

    Good morning Kevin,
The USAF survival knife is a great find. I was told by a old flyer the two holes allowed for lashing the knife to a stick for a spear application. Using boot laces or similar, you could synch it down good.
    Enjoy your videos!

My wife used to have family in Albany.
Camillus and Ontario both made USAF Survival knifes. Camillus marked the base of the blade, Ontario marked the nut. I had an Ontario from 1987 on my LBE for most of the late 80s and early 90s. I've got a nearly new Ontario from the 70s, and one of the Nomex MOLLE sheathes. It's for the Aircrew Vest, it's basic leather sheath with no stone pocket sewn into a nomex pocket. They are knives that don't excel at any specific tasks, but rather work well in a broad range of tasks.

Great find! AFSK Air Force Survival Knife made in 1967. Welcome to the AFSK club! I have a collection myself. I'm glad you are leaving the patina on it, that's what I do as well. As far as the grooves on the blade, I've heard a couple of explanations and am not sure which one is correct. The holes in the guard are for lashing. Great video! : )

I have a USAF pilot survival knife since 1983. It's a camillus also and it's a great knife. I used it as part of my LBE or Webgear for 12 years and it is still going strong! I was told by a Huey pilot that the holes were for lashing it to a limb to make a spear. I've used them for a forward lanyard when I was chopping stuff etc. another great video!!

Got the ontario 499 version of that camillius the two holes iv herd are for attaching to a spear or putting a lanyard through to wrap around your hand so you don't drop it also the blood groove is called a fuller either stamped in the blade for strength and to reduce weight also with the marttini Rapala they make a shorter stouter one for hunting that's thicker and not a fillett knife

I found one of those before. A short blade and they were made for skinning game. I think I paid $5 for it, but mine was rusty. It has the original sheath. If it’s clean and not banged up to bad and all depends on the age…older the better!! I’d say $15-$30.

Great find Kevin ! At first I wondered why you snapped it up so fast for that price! But now, as Paul Harvey used to say: ‘and now you know the rest of the story’ (or something like that)(I miss hearing his voice on the radio). yep great fine on the Vietnam era pilot survival knife.
Anyways, I did not know about that extra length on the older pilot survival knives … but have read about the camillus unmarked years first versions. Now that one would be exciting to find!
I do check for reference what knives have ‘sold for ‘ on the bay to help with a realistic worth on knives ( With awareness to, a bidding war or nobody was looking great buy).
I have found a great information source with the Blade Forums website especially with the Camillus and Schrade collectors section!
I thought I knew a fair amount from visits to the annual blade show here in Atlanta (talking with the folks who worked at /with Camillus and people who knew folks in the knife industry ( Fridays and Sundays were great times to just chat with those folks. It wasn’t as busy as Saturday ).
But I found what very little I knew when I went down the Rabbit hole of knife forums.
Designers / workers often chime in to chats with background or stats on production on this site…
I would like to add :anybody that would be interested in other leather handled knives. Be cautious on inside of the handle corrosion I have stayed away from suspected used rusty stacked leatherhandled and preferred if I had a choice between the two ;I prefer synthetic or wood handles . This one looked in good shape overall and I would’ve bought it too… but just a little heads up.
