So the short & simple answer to when potatoes are ready to harvest: When the foliage dies back! 👈 But thought I'd make a little fun video harvesting some Desiree potatoes at different stages!(60, 80, 100 & 120 days) and seeing what kind of yield we would get! 🤔🥔 Note; If you want potatoes that are fast maturing so you can harvest them in a shorter time frame, plant 1st Earlies! They will be ready to harvest around 70-90 days(2nd Earlies & Maincrop take longer to mature, late maincrops can take up to 120-150 days before they're ready to harvest) There might be some dispute on this video tbh(like 1st Earlies are SUPPOSE to be harvested when the flowers fall off, 1st Earlies ARE new/baby potatoes & are waxy because of that, only Maincrop are suppose to have the foliage die back, etc.) information on the internet, are kinda messy sometimes 😂 (1 says 1st Earlies mature & die back first, while another says 1st Earlies are suppose to be harvested as new potatoes-not waiting for it to die back) From my experience, potatoes are just potatoes & the ones that die off first are 1st Earlies, the ones that die back later are Maincrop & that is that! I've actually had 1st Earlies live up to 120 days old & Maincrop die back at 90 days 😂 So the main focus i did was just days/foliage die back instead of 'When to harvest? 1st Earlies first, 2nd Earlies second & Maincrop last! Thanks for watching!' 😂 If you would like more content like this from me, consider subscribing! Very well put together video and the yields were great! My fav to grow is potatoes so it seems I’m in the right place. 👍👍🥂
Thank you! Yess most of my videos are potatoes since i love growing them and they're like digging for treasure 😂
Useful info. So many people think all potatoes are the same! There is a difference with how determinate and indeterminate spuds grow! 😊
Yes! It doesn't get talked about enough, although the basic rule still applies, getting to know the types of potatoes helps!
