@@XTheOutlawX yeah i saw all the predictions and trash talk against illinois, but I don’t want to trash talk them back, especially when it was a good game
As a Buckeye fan , this game reminded me of our 2021 loss to Oregon early in CJ Stroud’s career. Rhule may want to examine the Stroud/Day era. Because while it’s great to have a dynamic NFL style pocket passer, if your offensive identity isn’t one of a physical run dominant team , or at the least being balanced & able to run when you need to most of the time , you will have some empty feelings after games . OSU’s last natty came from a mauling running attack , same with Michigan. This year, even with great WRs, they are getting back to a physical running identity with Chip Kelly & Will Howard, that coupled with their defense will put them in a great position to win it all. As enticing as it is to let Dylan Raiola go off against teams , your running game needs to be just as strong in the future to break into the B1G upper tier with Dylan. You don’t want to have to count on those tough plays made by your WRs. That flash is nice, but consistent ground game is the real substance in the B1G. Ryan Day learned that lesson in painful fashion With a few 5-Star QBs
I’m and Illinois fan and so biased because I am happy about the outcome, but sir that was a very evenhanded well spoken assessment of the game, thank you for your coverage
New year same Nebraska. Can't win the close games and costly mistakes in key moments. Hope we make a bowl but I wouldn't bet on it, if we can't beat Illinois I don't like our odds against most of the big 10.
The defense was absolutely horrible. No pressure on the QB. No secondary coverage. The offense was horrible. Could not up open holes thru the middle. The line could not block. Illinois exploited every weakness that Nebraska has had all season. They won the first 3 games against teams that posed no serious threat. Tonite was different. Continued undisciplined play on both sides of the ball contributed to the loss. When is this team going to get serious about getting a kicker? It has been the Achilles heel of this team. It is becoming the difference between winning and losing. This team has a lot of growing up to do!
Last year, going into this year, I said our offensive line is still bad. I said I don’t care who is at qb. We kept uncle Raiola to get his nephew. I got verbally attacked by Husker fans. I said “oh well. Just stating the obvious.” Hate to say it’s somewhat satisfying to see us lose. I’ll always be a Husker fan, but be careful what you say or they will call you a “Iowa fan” or a “hater.” 🙄
Going for the FG was the correct play. If he hits it, Nebraska probably wins it. In general, I thought it was a well-played and interesting game. Both QBs looked great. Nebraska looks night and day compared to last year. No question that Raiola is the real deal. Illinois is a solid team and Bielema plays hard-nosed football. He wins a lot of games late because of it. Luke Altmyer is one cool customer. He made great throws in pressure situations. Nebraska is definitely on the right track.
@@georgesealy4706 In most circumstances, going for the FG is by the book thing to do. However, our kicker had kicked one FG at this level and it was early in the game with no pressure, and, a new/different snapper, they used one for punts and one for kicks, don’t know which one was in the game. We had 3rd and 3 with around three mins to play, so given the above I think some coaches would have gone into four down territory mode using a big formation, a fullback/TE and an I-back for two downs. If we couldn’t get three yds in two plays, yes, they get the ball back in the same field position, but if we get the first down, then we milk more clock, and get a closer FG try or maybe even score! If Raiola hadn’t over thrown the TE and the third team or 4th team TE catches the ball, TD and we most likely win the game. Another bigger question I have is I thought you should always have your best players on the field at crunch time, Lindenmeyer is 3rd or 4th team? Tough game to lose for sure, we should not have been in that position to begin with but we were.
Our Defense just got Finessed Illinois kept running the same play over and over whether it was the WR to the flat the TE to the flat the RB to the flat the FB to the flat. We never adjusted and getting out scored 21-7 in the second half we proven thus far we are not a second half nor a four quarter team
@@jasonfasthorse8939 Maybe a game planning oversight? Anyone playing a Bielema team must plan for a tough fight in the fourth quarter. And consequently, conditioning really matters after three quarters of pounding the rock.
Sam, I agree with what you said about our D but our OC never makes good adjustments at half and he has fallen in love with the long ball. All spring, off season and fall camp Satt talked about using our TE’s more, hasn’t done it. I’d trade for IL OC right now. It’s hard to know if we can run the ball, Satt doesn’t stick with it often enough to find out or wear down a D.
Knifes to the heart this game. Why not go for it on fourth down instead of sending in a back up kicker, wtf? And why can't NU stop the run?! I expected NU to be more physical, but they were pushed around which was surprising and very disappointing.
Bielema's teams always play very physical football. I wasn't surprised. They also had a hot, really good QB who gave them a threatening passing game. Illinois is legit.
It seems like it has been at least 10 years since Nebraska was good in the Big 10. It is almost a sure thing that Nebraska will lose to Wisconsin and will give up at least 300 yards in rushing. Nebraska does not seem to have the mental toughness or physical toughness to compete in the Big 10 , especially in the 4th quarter and in overtime.
That third and three call was the turning point that lost the game IMHO. It's not the QB's fault, it's the OC's fault. If you watched LSU vs UCLA, LSU had a third and three and threw a three yard pass to the sideline for a first down. That kept the drive alive, LSU scored on that drive, and they won the game. You always take the higher percentage play on third down. Satterfield made a similar call against Minnesota last year, Sims threw an interception, and Nebraska lost the game. Same mentality, same results. You need to play Moneyball to win.
Once again, Nebraska (along with Minnesota) are the laughing stock of the Big 10. But wait.....that's nothing new since the late 90's. The 2nd half and overtime of this game, the Huskers didn't even look like a Top 25 FCS level program. Sam is right and to say this team is going to have to answer a lot of hard questions is a sugar coated understatement.
I am not a Nebraska fan (or Illinois). I see Nebraska as up-and-coming. They look much better than last year. Raiola is probably the best young QB in Div I. Nebraska probably wins this game if the FG was made. Then things would look much differently.
I even bought Husker gear this week…should have known better…same old weak Husker lines on both sides. We just don’t have the talent. Thank god Raiola is here. He made the ultimate sacrifice to play on a weak team.
Many to blame..#1 "Mr Spokesman" for Nebraska Sean Callahan sitting on TH-cam all Summer selling us a bunch of goods for last decade! He kisses every new Coaches butt, scared to ask a hard question. Time for Change we fans deserve better! I paid less for Big 10 Championship tickets in KC then this embarrassment.
Nebraska is going to be really good next year. You're close. The blackshirts looked gassed late in the second half. Gotta work on that. Shout out to the great Huskers fans! Super fun game to watch. Super fun Friday night. Good luck with rest of your year. I think Neb and ILL switch spots in the top 25 next week.
Against an average-at-best Illinois defensive front seven here is how Nebraska’s o-line (under)performed: 48 net rushing yards on 33 attempts for an average of 1.5 yards per rush 0 rushing touchdowns 5 sacks allowed 7 tackles for loss allowed 2 penalties failed chance to finish a drive and score go-ahead points on their last drive of the fourth quarter when the game was tied -20 yards in overtime and Dylan Raiola was constantly under pressure but made many great plays that most qb’s can’t which prevented the o-line’s stats from being even worse. 1. Forget the refs; I’m sick of the o-line play! 2. We definitely got outcoached today and if you read my comments in videos leading up to this game I wrote, “This game will come down to coaching.” 3. The offensive line coach (Donovan Raiola) is the weakest link and the biggest area the team needs to improve upon. Been saying since the day he was hired that Donovan Raiola is terrible and needs to be let go. Donovan Raiola has been a coach longer than any of the other coaches on the staff and he clearly has the worst unit on the team. If Dylan Raiola transfers because his uncle can’t hack it (which I don’t think Dylan would do), then so be it. There are other qb’s that are good too and MUCH better offensive line coaches. Michigan won the National Championship last year because their defense was great and their offensive line could push top-tier teams (Alabama, Ohio State, Washington, etc.) around; not because of their qb.
Nebraska is getting better theyre not as bad as it looks just need to put 90% more focus on the 4th qtr throwing away well played games with really bad execution all around last 10 min. I love Raiola.. he for sure is an all time talent, but it makes me want to vomit watching an offense that can't consistently run the ball when they need to. If you want to keep Satterfield then fine, but for the love of God please go hire a legitimate run game coordinator cuz you'll never maximize DR's potential dropping back and playing hero ball like apparently Satt likes to run his offense. The kid will transfer to another school... and then what? Develope a creative and consistent run game and ensure Raiola and this offense can flourish. He's so good in play action. Turns out he's pedestrian when you're dropping back and throwing it ON EVERY F'N PLAY!! JFC

I have no horse in the race, here, but I felt that a lot of people whipped out the anointing oil with Nebraska a little too soon a couple weekends ago. With all due respect, that win against Colorado wasn't really that big of a deal. It wasn't a complete, 60-minute performance and we're talking about an opponent that only won 5 games last year and hasn't yet established that it's any better this year. Now with that said, this Illinois team IS a good team and losing to them in overtime isn't the end of the world. And when I look at the rest of Nebraska's schedule, I do think they'll win at least 7 games this year (i.e. I think their bowl drought will come to an end) and they might even have an outside shot at 9 wins.
Pass rush non-existent, and the secondary was suspect. Riaola will be fine but the other phases of the game need a lot of work. I don't blame Ruhle either. He needs more help from this assistants.
Better team more Talent everything 400 sellout anniversary at home and you struggle to beat these Illinois nothing to you you made Illinois look good that's what Nebraska does we make them look good when everybody in the country know we're better team but yet we can't win in the Big Ten the defense looked at really really bad I don't care how bad the quarterback look missing throws and not seeing wide open people can the receivers getting balls pulled out their hand it's all about defense who's defense wake up and stop the other ones offense will win the game and it went down to who has the ball last can we blow it
so we cold have hired a multiple time big ten champion coach, ready set switch, hike, so Illinois was stronger in better condition and have better coordinators, they must have mat drill also so what is unique about huskers, they brag about the workouts, and other teams are bigger faster and stronger,
He’s a talent but overhyped, most of his good throws were to wide open receivers with plenty of time. Some were bad throws where the receivers made great catches. He could be really good it will take some time
@@paulsoxl7739Agreed, pump the brakes on the hype until he faces more solid defenses - has arm talent but came back to earth in that 2nd half / Nebraska out scored 21-7 in 2nd half

Just to wonder, I wonder if Saban or Reid could help Nebraska be winners. Nebraska needs better opponents than Colorado, UTEP and Northern Iowa. At least good fans care about winning and losing and get bothered by a loss. Oh well ,wait till next week.

Still not ready for prime time
I love Raiola.. he for sure is an all time talent, but it makes me want to vomit watching an offense that can't consistently run the ball when they need to. JFC
Why TF did Hohl kick? Terrible coaching
They called better plays - Out Coached
Rhule sucks balls 🏈
All we had to do is run the ball in the end of the game and we didn’t do that so we lost
We got owned on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
My post on Husker's 24/7
"I'm guessing next years losing season will be "Chasing 7?" 😂
You are a really bad staff when that slob Brett Blimpia rolls into your place, again, and beats you on a historic night.
Stop with the penalty excuses, both Coordinators for NU got schooled, good luck with that HC gig White 😎
Whatever you do Rhule, make sure you put all the weight of the teams success on your Freshman QB's arm.
Do not, and I repeat, do not actually try and establish a running game.
Score in 4 plays, and rush that Defense back out there on the field...
...brilliant game plan in the BIG!!!
I think Bill Busch lives like 4 miles from you, he is an actual "Special Teams" coach....
....Foley is not!
This team will be LUCKY to win 6 games this season....
Always try to remember this Mr. Rhule....
.....princ
iples before personalities.
GBR🎈"
Illinois OC picked 'em apart.
The Husker DBs got faked-out often....
The kicker is hurt? How does the kicker get hurt?
The curse continues.
Piss poor on air tv content. Stick to radio or off camera. Hash tag print only.
Way too many penalties on the defense
Jumbled audio
Hope the coaches look at play calling in overtime. Come on. Run the dam ball.
He needs more help from this assistants.
they got out-coached and out-schemed
5 yards a carry
Better team more Talent everything 400 sellout anniversary at home and you struggle to beat these Illinois nothing to you you made Illinois look good that's what Nebraska does we make them look good when everybody in the country know we're better team but yet we can't win in the Big Ten the defense looked at really really bad I don't care how bad the quarterback look missing throws and not seeing wide open people can the receivers getting balls pulled out their hand it's all about defense who's defense wake up and stop the other ones offense will win the game and it went down to who has the ball last can we blow it
They got punched in the face and kept punching back. See the difference? A couple of plays go the other way and....
Fix your 🎙️ microphone
Well they need to work on it
YOUR SOUND IS FACKED AGAIN
so we cold have hired a multiple time big ten champion coach, ready set switch, hike,
so Illinois was stronger in better condition and have better coordinators, they must have mat drill also so what is unique about huskers, they brag about the workouts, and other teams are bigger faster and stronger,
thud!
I drank the kook aid again.
Defense and Special Team's SUCKED!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dylan Raiola is one of the best QB's in college football already,
I agree.
Choke! nebr has a great history of losing close games. Another sub par year. 6-6 at best, 4 or 5 win season more likely
400 FAKE sell-outs!
That game when Neb didn't win the 2nd half. That is 2 out of 4. Rhule: 106 games, 55-51, AND STILL 1 win over a top 20 team, #19 Navy.
The Big Easy Yellow Brick Road will never happen again in Neb. Give up already!
OUCH!
Just to wonder, I wonder if Saban or Reid could help Nebraska be winners.
Nebraska needs better opponents than Colorado, UTEP and Northern Iowa.
At least good fans care about winning and losing and get bothered by a loss.
Oh well ,wait till next week.
Defense blows unless the offense sucks
